Be nice to make it a round thousand by 31st December. That would still be a measly .40%. return for the year.

Looks like I got my wish - €50 today - Christmas came early !!

    Winnings on 13th December €50
    Last win: 22nd November: €50
    Weeks since last win: 3

    2017 (Jul-Dec) - €100k – 7x€50 = €350
    2018 (Jan-Dec) - €200k – 12x€50 = €600
    2019 (Jan-Dec) - €250k – 20x€50 = €1,000

You can buy in the Post Office or Online here https://www.statesavings.ie/prize-bonds.

The winning bonds for each draw are posted on the above website on Fridays. If you create an account you can enter your Bond numbers and check if they have won with a click.

They can be withdrawn with 7 days notice.

..but only after a min. of 3 months i think (I called them last week to check and see how long prize bonds needed to be held before they could be cashed in again..they said 3 months)

    Interesting. Exact same return ratio.

400 on 100k annual income is a lot more than many people who gambled on Irish Oil Exploration stocks ended up with in the past (Bula, Providence, etc). Not to mention the fact they also lost 100% of their capital. Oil exploration stocks which by their nature have a reasonable chance of 100% capital loss may have a place in a broad portfolio. They certainly are not the place for somebody’s mortgage savings !

I didn’t know it was savings for a mortgage !
I thought it spare money ! Worth the gamble on the prize bonds wouldn’t have interest earned anyway without investing long term !

All very good, well done and I presume you sold on Friday, but if your post had been last Monday evening it might have read something like this
Time to take it out do something more exciting - I bought tullow oil shares last Monday by this evening minus 70% minus Leo/ pascal
Now I know u won’t get a week like that every week or once a year but come on 400 on 100k

You were the lucky one, but remember somebody bought those Tullow shares that previous Monday at 1.37.

Bubblypop still has his 100K plus the 400 of course, and can sleep easy at night

Nothing in weeks. €290k invested. (taken from stock-market and put in to Prize Bonds). I am jumping ship in the New Year. I can get between 2% and 6% on share dividends. Going back to the markets.

wow that's shocking, that amount should be winning something every fortnight?

    No draw on Friday 27th.

Next draw takes place on Monday 30th. And the top prize is on of the twice yearly €1,000,000 prizes.

Parked €25k in prize bonds today. I’ll give it a year and hopefully will get a few €50’s in the year.

    Dont hold your breath.

11 months later zero wins. Another bond bought later in the year for the same amount = 3 wins. There’s no arguing with randomness.

3 wins in less than 11 months on 25k - that’s an incredibly lucky batch!

A thousand bonds can win three times in the one draw. Happens in most draws. The slightly remarkable thing about this one was that only 4 bonds in Australia won, and 3 of them were the same holder. This was the draw of 06 December.

Prize Value Winning Prize Bond Location

    €50 OA903577 Australia
    €50 OA904017 Australia
    €50 OA904567 Australia

Surely you would get a better return elsewhere.
