€451.46 O2 Bill- I'm fit to vomit

Jesus tonight, I just checked my O2 bill to see how I got on on holidays, I was in France for 10 days at the start of last month and I got the 500MB Data Roaming package from O2 for €75.00, It was €50.00 for 50MB so I decided to play safe with 500MB.

It turns out the I used 670MB while roaming but the thing I cant figure out is the fact that there was no data usage below 4.0MB while I was away. which I presume included a look at facebook here and there along the way and receiving the odd email, and here in Ireland my data usage on the bill starts from 48.0 KB upwards.

Can anyone shed a bit of light on this ?

I just checked mine a while ago, was in London for 2 days. Bill is a hundred euro more than it usually would be.
I feel better about it now after reading this though!

Funny that. Somehow all my monthly 1 GB was used up in the first few days of my billing period this month. Wonder if it's related to your problem.

Pop into the O2 forum, alternatively pop into a shop and they'll have a look. I added your total cost line up in XL and it should only be €184.

Nope its a Samsung Galaxy, I used it for Google Navigation, Email, bit of facebook, then the kids done a bit of surfing on the net

Yes.
AFAIK as a result of EU rules, once you go above 52 Euro or thereabouts, above your agreed limit, they should prevent you from using any further data.

3 also have "3 like home". Means you can use your phone exactly as you would here at home if you are roaming in a country with a 3 network.

I'm shocked you were willing to pay 75e for 500MB in the first place.

You do know they have internet cafes in France and if you really wanted to use your phone then just find a wifi hotspot?

I think the request to expand was to do with your complaint about O2 .... showing that other networks do, in fact, also have price plans isn't really an expansion.

Just out of curiosity; I recently switched over to 3 and I'm on one their ''Classic Flex Max'' plan. Just how much data do you get in their ''all you can eat'' allowance. Just use it in Ireland for intermittent surfing during breaks at work. Download FA, just the odd app for my iphone.

You got burnt but it's your own fault. At least you'll know for next time.

On the iphone you've an option to turn off your 3G. You need to select this the next time you go abroad.

No, it's a comparison of the fact there ARE other networks out there worth looking in to, instead of sticking with a company who clearly are loving to dig deep into the OP's pockets. Doubtful you would want them to do the same to you eh?

Looks like that plan has 500 units, 500kb = 1 unit, so you're getting 200MB of internet data if used on internet alone. Check out the flex add-ons, they look alright and you get one free with that plan until Dec it says.

They do say they may throttle (slow down) your connection after 15GB in one month but other than that, unlimited data usage.

You are not being helpful. The costs are outrageous. I know it, but I dont expect other people to. It is easy to have data roaming on and to connect to the internet.

Cheers. Not sure how the hell you'd use 15GB in a month on a phone!! If I used a few hundred MB, that'd be pushing it.

Since you've an Android phone, you should install 3G Watchdog. You can monitor the data usage (including a daily breakdown) and even set it to cut off the 3G connection if it exceeds a cap. It won't pin point what caused the excessive usage but it'll let you know it's happening.
