Perez and Maldonaldo having a good buzz there. Button looks like a sitting duck once the DRS kicks in. Wonder if he smashed his tyres in Quali or something.

Great start! Webber, the McLarens and Ferrari were too busy worrying about the inside and the Renaults went clean outside of them!

This is going to be a great race, I can feel it in my waters! Rain on about lap 15 would be just super!

Part of me doesn't want it to rain. The tyres will probably make this race fascinating anyway. I keep thinking about what happened in 2009...

The way the teams are going on about rain I'm expecting barely a spit. It's one of those times when they just seem to fear the rain too much for it to ever come. :P

exciting race so far except for the race for 1st place. Vettel has it in the bag already.
Although Mercedes team radio just told Schumi: "expect rain in 5 or 10 minutes" :)

The cars parked up on the circuit at lap 31, when the track turned into a river. Half points awarded. The most exciting thing about the race was the sight of Kimi Raikkonen walking around, eating an ice cream, looking like a man who no longer cared about being in F1. Not worth getting up for.

Whatever about you lot having to get up early I'm living in Argentina at the moment! It's currently 5.25 in the morning!

Rain oh perfect says Hamilton. That could screw Hamilton and other stoppers seriously.

aaa Schumi, Buemi & Hamilton into last corner wheel to wheel... this is racing!

Just looking at the lap times, Webber is (by far) the fastest on the track at the moment. Well over a second per lap faster than Vettel.

Looks like he already fcuked his tyres though.

Still a way to go in this race yet, Alonso looking pretty strong assuming he hasn't already fried his tyres.

    HAHA! I try!

Petrov ahead of Heidfeld again in first two sessions, this year has got to be Nicks last ever chance I had expected a lot more.

I'm sorry for having doubted you Nick!! Awesome drive today!

Glad Webber got up towards the end to show if you're going to go hard then go hard and use up tyres.

I still feel too many teams are being too conservative with the tyres tbh.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso have been hit with 20-second penalties following a collision in Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix.

The verdict means that Hamilton drops from seventh to eighth place, although Alonso retains sixth.

Hamilton's penalty was for making more than one change of direction while defending his position. Alonso's was for causing a collision.

Alonso was trying to pass Hamilton after Turn 3 but clipped the McLaren.

Silly decision (particularly with regard to penalising Alonso). It's as though the FIA are actively trying to discourage exciting racing.

The race stewards should be told to watch this:

Great race, the pace between the top 3-4 teams is very close on race day. Can see this season getting very good.

I would have sworn hamilton lifted off as alonso was about to pass. From one of the first replays onboard hamilton looking backwards at alonso, you could hear the engine revs dropping off. Perhaps it was the wrong audio though or alonso engine that could be heard.

yeah I dont understand how a racing incident like this leads to both drivers getting a penalty, both were heavily punished by the incident with Alonso and Hamilton requiring additional pitstops and falling from 3rd and 4th to 6th and 7th at the flag. No need to punish them any more that what the incident cost him on track in my view

On the start finish straight it did look like Hamilton moved more than once so maybe that's what the penalty was for? Maybe it's the slightly stricter rules this year.
20.2 Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as more than one change of direction to defend a position, deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are not permitted.

Massa's defending in Australia looked similar to Hamiltons though

For the collision it looked like Alonso misjudged it, but was just small mistake.

    Seems harsh on both drivers

I'm disgusted at the penalties handed out to both drivers. I think it was a mistake on Alonso's part but not one that merited a steward-imposed penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭EvilMonkey

    Cant understand the penalties?
Alonso's was a racing incident, is their going to be a penalty every time a wing is broke this season?
I haven't seen any video of Hamilton's weaving, anyone have a link? Alonso didn't complain about Hamilton's defending, well publicly anyway.

Petrov is a mad bastard for not lifting off, i bet he will the next time. :D
Schumacher went wide and didn't seem to lift off too much but he got back on before the hump in the grass.

The top teams are still being conservative with the tyres afraid to risk a few to many laps.

The penalties is more bullshit and lack of consistency from the stewards.
