Well one of the moderators said he could smell it in his dinner, or something, and using the same interpretation rules laid out by others in this thread I'm taking that to mean he gives his personal guarantee that it will all be up and running and alright in 3........2........1.....................b@stard.

I'd say this is less security and more making sure that all the games work with it.
Which is probably what started this whole mess in the first place :pac:

Remember this is the same PSN that crashed when the map packs for MW 2 came out due to every MW2 owner going on in a short period of time. That is going to be nothing compared to the rush when the world wide system comes online. They are going to have to stagger it BIG time. Should be fun. I predict it will come on, then crash, then on etc for a few days.

What was the first map pack and happened with Xbox not ps3.

It happened for live as the demand was higher than expected, in this case they know how many people use psn.

Not saying it didn't happen on Live but the PSN shut down. You couldn't put funding into your account for ages and then PSN went down for a time, and getting an online game was patchy at best. Also I said MW2, I didn't specify a map pack.:)

Id get alot more satisfaction outa kickin it to pieces...and at least id no justice has been done!

Also my limited understanding of such things suggests that it is not only the amount of users but the times they go on. We all know the PSN was able to cater for the 77(or whatever) million users. All I am suggesting is that if the system comes back on in one go it might find it hard to cope if 55 million nerds rush the system at once. Especially a new system. Is that not the case?

I felt the same way with Modern Warfare 2... Manys of times I was tempted to just smash it too pieces... But then, I just had to take the 20 quid for it :p..

Well there are 77 million accounts, not 77million users, as a lot of people will have multiple accounts on their console, eg. normal everyday account, then an account to access UK/US/Japan store or whatever.

Yes the PSN can cope with all these accounts/users, but how often would every user in the world be on at the same time?? NEVER........so what will most likely happen is it will work the same way as Store Updates do....Japan/US will be first, then a day or 2 later it will be back online for us in Europe until finally Australia regions will get it!
So there wont be a big-massive surge of users in one go. That is until the new COD map-pack goes online ;)

If I had friends who would come around why would I pay 400euro for a PS3 and 55euro for fifa11 to play football with them when a football costs 10euro?:D

You don't have to, it Stimulus was the one that messed up to a huge degree with no one able to play on 360 and was release on the day the wallet messed up on PS3. Resurgence had some corruption problems but that was fixed fast enough.
Not saying it didn't happen on Live but the PSN shut down. You couldn't put funding into your account for ages and then PSN went down for a time, and getting an online game was patchy at best.

Some people couldn't add funds for the EU store on the same day Stimulus came out, it didn't take PSN down you could still buy the DLC and play games as well as everything else with the exception of adding funds from a credit card.

When it release on the 360 a month early it required a update to the game as something was wrong with it but live was not down.

Point taken on users v's accounts. On the other bit though, that was my point/guess originally, about 5 posts previous. Still think it will be a big ask though as it's a totally new system. Or at least that is what everyone is expecting with all the delays. It would be really laughable if it was the same PSN that came back up, nothing new at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,990 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

why would it be laughable if the same looking psn came back up ? i was happy with the last one. if they have it back working like before, with the new security running in the backround it will suit me just fine.

I remember it being a bigger problem because some of the criticisms going around were that it had happend to Live the month before and thus should have been prevented by PS. Also you couldn't access the wallet at all, not just for CC payments and getting online was hampered badly.......wasn't it? to hell with it. I'm not going to argue the issue. It was fine. Nothing bad happened and all was fine. I'm going back to getting the last few single player achievements in black ops.

Because if it was, surely they could have had it back before now if it was.

The two problems were different and it was only coincidence that a cod map pack came out on both days with the 360 version have the maps being at fault not live and PSN working and letting you buy the maps if you already had money in the wallet.

They said they are rebuilding the PSN -- i.e. the security and the like. They are more than likely not going to make any noticeable differences.

Perhaps. I still think that could have been done quicker given that most of the security, see discussion on Apache earlier, is from specialised sources and just put into use by Sony. They don't actually create any of that software themselves so it should just be a matter of implementation. Seem to be stepping on a lot of toes tonight. So bored though. Can't stop typing. Does anyone else like toast? I like toast.:(

Okay, so the PSN might not have been down. You just couldn't buy anything and I know at leats 2 people who bought the credit in shops and couldn't use it and I couldn't add with cc, but okay. Perhaps it wasn't "down". A bit like saying our shop is open. You just can't get anything. pedantics aside I think the point is still valid that with a large volume in a short timeframe there was issues and that was in relation to one game. Now with bringing on the whole system it will be tough. That was my point....
