US Airways informed me it would be $300 and just to check it in on arrival at Dublin airport. When I arrived at the check in desk they asked for $100 so I didn't argue. :)

(I know some people prefer to hire a bike but it's hard to beat having your own even if it costs a bit extra. I'd also be inclined to clock up a lot more mileage on my own bike).

$100 is probAbly worth it given the crazy road bike hire rates but to be honest I don't think I would have arrived at the airport if I thought it was going to be $300.

Wonderful day on the military road and in Glencree yesterday, only came home because I got hungry:D

    260733.jpg

Stopped for a snack at the gate to Powerscourt waterfall, been there too many times to bother going in though.

    260734.jpg

At the top of the climb from the waterfall headed towards Enniskerry, had never really looked at the view, its gorgeous.

Far from as glamorous as Florida, but Project 'Break In Brooks' started today with 30km on my Raleigh Gas & Lead Piping Co. road bike around Phoenix Park. Couldn't not bring the camera with the sun shining away out there.

    Doesn't look hefty at all!

Original tyres (or can they be sourced?).

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭OldBean

It had one of the originals on her when I picked it up, but it was pretty perished, so I picked up some cheapo 27 1/4 tyres for the moment. I'll get something closer to stock after I do some more work and pick up new wheels.

She looks light, but she's a 25" 'Hi Tensile Steel' frame. Heavy. But I don't mind. Makes the hills more fun. Right?

Cirque de Troumouse, in Pyrénées National Park. Climbs for 39km @ 4.4% from Gorge de Luz to 2100m near the Spanish border. The last 16km are epic. It's unknown to most cyclist. I think it is harder and more scenic than it's famous neighbours.

Looks like the weather's going to be like this into next week. :) Went out for a while today around the Wicklow Mts. Might head to Kippure or SG again tomorrow.

Is the mast at Kippure a restricted area? I remember passing by it a few months ago and had a whole list of rules by the gate. I want to go up to it tomorrow though.

No I think anybody can go up to it they have a wire fence around it do you can't go near the mast itself. Access is by foot or bike though no cars.
