Lovely day for it, went up by viewpoint and onto the next viewpoint, sun was shining away in it's sky, if not particularly warm. The view was fantastic, some low-lying cloud off in the direction of the sugarloaf. Days like this are what cycling is about for me, makes me glad to be alive :)

    It sure is.

Actually its not really a road and doesn't reach the summit.
There is a better route on the South East side which is a nice cycle to the top.

Thought so, cycled past on Friday but cloud cover was nearly down to the barrier so couldn't head up. Cracking day up there alright!

    T'is indeed.

Sorry, as Charlie said, the better road and the one that you can cycle (on a road bike) is up past Long Bray about 4k before Sally Gap. Its probably about 6km or so from the spot at which I took that photo, with 2km or so of that being a tough little climb.
    Well worth the trip tho!

Usual little 16km, but with a sunset over Lansdowne Road, and then back through Milltown Park with mist rising off the grass, humming that well known set, Take the Lane, the Wheelman's, An Rothar Seo 'Gainne.

Where is that "boardwalk" on the Dodder?

Just coming up towards Ringsend (which is where all those lighted-up cranes are), there's a bend in the river. No boardwalk, just the fact that the wall blocks off light for a bit. I'll see can I find the same place in daylight and take a photo.

I was suffering from the Fr Ted effect with phone photos - places look big to you but far away to the camera. I think this is it, in fact - between Ringsend bridge (sorry, don't know the official name) over the Dodder and the Pigeon House, looking out towards the sea, kitty-corner from Fitzwilliam Quay. You can go down a set of steps on the left onto the quay.

Though wait, no, comparing the photos the one the other morning was clearly on a bend. Will try again next cycle… which probably won't be tomorrow looking at the weather forecast…

In fact, d'oh, I suddenly realise that when aloysius was asking about the 'boardwalk', he/she was asking in fact about the path by the Dodder. Sorry, not too bright… It starts at Beatty's Avenue and runs along the bank to Fitzwilliam Quay. You can't see it on Google Maps from 2014, I think it only opened last year. A beautiful place.

This is the place. This particular stretch runs from Newbridge Avenue in Sandymount to Londonbridge. There are further stretches either side, from Londonbridge down to Ringsend bridge and from Landsdowne Road up to Ballsbridge.

And there's also a lovely stretch - not that kind of urban walkway, but a wilder, more natural broad path - at Baggotrath beside Herbert Park - you get to that one by either the road beside Bective in Donnybrook or the road where Donnybrook Cycles is beside the pedestrian crossing at the Garda station (Eglinton Terrace or Rampart Lane, between which is the tennis court that was the original centre of the huge Donnybrook Fair). That path stretches up to Roly's, or if you want to join the other path at Beatty's Avenue, take a right at the huge hotel there (Herbert Park Hotel?) then cross the bridge and go left along the road and around to the left at the lights, then you turn right into Beatty's Avenue. Below: Baggotrath.
