I only noticed this last night.. i have had it out with UPC so many times over this, we have the max package, but i am not getting some of the channels becauase "i am not in the right area" but they were still charging me for these channels, rang them up & they did give me a discount, but now ITV 2/3/4 Bravo are all gone.. I was serously thinking of changing to sky, but their multiroom is so expensive...

You won't get these channels as standard on Sky either. Bravo is dead and they don't carry the ITVs. You can tune them in on any satelitte though

it's not even the changing over to Sky get these channels,
its the fact that they are still charging you for channels that you are
no longer recieving, or you are not in the right area to recieve.

I rang last night asked her what was the story she said they ran out of time and money and i told her im running out of patience with them charging me a load of money and then removing channels one by one.. she said "what can she do about it?" my answer was short and sweet "downgrade please"

    simple

What if your on their lowest deal? You have still lost the same channels and seen your subscription fee increase.

I'm not trying to argue that what happened is a good thing BUT they have introduced channels before without rising prices immediately (I'm thinking the likes of ESPN, eurosport and even the ITVs)

    No, that's not correct.

    The must carry rules are:

Digital cable/MMDS: TV3, and every free-to-air service provided by RTÉ and TG4. (The Irish Film Channel and the Houses of the Oireachtas Channel when they come into existance too). (s77(3)-(4))

does this mean when rte 2 hd light is launched upc must carry it?

Wow! that line up of TV is depressing! Get their Broadband it is worth it IMO.

The inital plan from RTÉ was that it would be an attraction to SoarView for people in 4TV land but AFAIK the Minister (Carey) rule this idea out meaning RTÉ Two HD will need to be made available on all platforms.
    2. RTÉ must act so as to ensure the new services and channels are made available on all platforms as soon as practicable in accordance with the “must offer”/“must carry” obligations set out in the Broadcasting Act 2009;

UPC should have RTÉ 2HD, RTÉ Digital Aertel, RTÉ 1 +1, RTÉjr and RTÉ News Now. (But as soon as practicable maybe up to RTÉ and the service providers).

AFAIR ITV was introduce and then maybe a month later they increased their prices. ESPN and EuroSport are on higher packages and don't effect those on the lowest package.

Possibly, but they were extra for me. I think FX was another one

tonyheaney might think they're crap but ESPN is worth €15 a month compared to Sky subscribers and its one of the major differences in UPC's favour

For me that is the only thing UPC has going for themselves is ESPN at a cheap rate!

I'm sick of UPC cutting/losing channels...we've lost at 6 this year now (these 3, bravo and bravo +1, and channel one), AND we were promised the food channel last year and never got it.
well.... Bravo didnt just close on UPC, its gone completely out of existance, so no fault to UPC there.

and also channel one, dead as a doornail on all platforms:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_One_(UK_TV_channel)

both closures incidentally made by SKY, who ran the channels not UPC.

One of the other major pluses to UPC is it Phone and Broadband services, which we can see from the number here complaining about the lose of these channels who also have their Phone and Broadband. UPC dealt badly with the cutting of the ITV channels, whatever about Sky closing Bravo and Channel One.

NO question at all about that. I'm just pointing out that I was thinking about subscribing to ESPN anyway, so for me, its a huge plus.

On a purely TV level, its one of the few advantages it has over sky

My mother was just going through the EPG on her UPC box and according to it, they will have the extra ITV's back @ 1am tonight. Now she's no techno-genius so she could be mistaken. Can someone in here verify it? I can't see any online articles suggesting it.

Batman Begins, ITV3 Nightscreen and The Game are all showing up on the EPG, I would assume it is a technical glitch more so than the channels are returning.

Ye glitch by the looks of things it says Batman is only on for half an hour :pac:

Must be fixed as there's nothing showing in the EPG for ITV 2, 3 and 4 on my box. The channel is in the guide but there's no other information at all. Is that just me?

Just told that ITV2,3 & 4 ARE going to broadcast again but we will not be able to view programs which TV3 and 3e have rights to in ireland

Oh man, I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat "we have to keep UPC what would I do without E!" FFS!

Does anybody know if you can get E! on free-view?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,708 ✭✭✭ciaran76

I can see all progs. for tomorrow and beyond etc. on my guide.

I recommend going Free to Air.

As the thread relates to ITV2,3 and 4, the only way to get these free to air is via Freesat or Freeview.

Freesat is not an option for a lot of people, especially if you live in an apartment and Freeview is only available if you're able to pick up NI or Welsh TV via an aerial, again not available to a significant section of the population.

That is very true. The channels are no longer available, but UPC failed to replace them. Look at Channel One, that turned into Challenge TV on FreeView in the UK, for us, a blank screen. Whilst UPC are out of control when it comes to a channel shutting down, they are in control of their EPG and at using our money to acquire replacement channels.

Next month they will launch the new RTE channels, which isn't a like for like replacement. These are must carry.

wasn't one of the batmans showing when the channels were removed?

Any UPC insiders got the scoop?

For the last few days there has been mumblings that the loss of ITV was about money.
Since the other 'channel' provider has never been identified - Sky or TV3 been blamed - but nothing official, it is not beyond the realms that there is some truth to money been the real issue.
