Was just enjoying Batman on ITV2 when the screen went black.

In the menu caption where it usually gives a synopsis of the current programme says the following:
UPC is no longer authorised to transmit this channel as ITV has exclusive rights arrangements with another channel provider for certain content. The top programmes from ITV are available on TV3/3e. UPC plan to launch new channels shortly

    Are the ITVs gone?

    Is this an April's Fool?

There is surely no company on the planet willing to go to these lengths as a joke on their customers.

Noooooooooooooo - I'm a Hells Kitchen addict and TV3 won't have this season for months and there's only 4 weeks left on ITV2.

I'm sick of UPC cutting/losing channels...we've lost at 6 this year now (these 3, bravo and bravo +1, and channel one), AND we were promised the food channel last year and never got it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,265 ✭✭✭aidan_dunne

Oh come on, this is just getting to be a load of bollocks now!

Increasing the prices and then loosing more channels from the line-up, UPC is going to be haemorrhaging customers like crazy to Sky, Freeview/Freesat and Saorview if they keep this up. Pretty soon their only business will be coming from the broadband side of things.

I'm f**king raging over this, the British Touring Car Championship is starting this weekend and I was looking forward to a whole day of vegging out on the couch watching it on ITV4 on Sunday. :( So much for that plan!

Time for me to start looking at a combination Freeview and Saorview option, perhaps. I'm sure I won't be the only UPC customer thinking the same after this! ;)

Hey, all you complainers:D. Have a look at the same thread in the Satellite Forum:confused:. It explains why UPC lost those channels.

Upc may be cheaper but my god are they taking the biscuit. These new channels the plan to launch better be good ones or i'll be gone.

This sky deal is looking more and more tempting.

No it doesn't? It speculates that the channels have gone exclusively to Sky, even though they were there before.

Checked the "my messages" button on the awful info channel last night and nothing about the switch off on there so basically UPC gave us NO warning. What happened to customer service?

No explanation on the website either.

You are better off with a Freesat system. UPC can't record ITV2 as it's gone. Sky can't record BBC3 or ITV2. If ITV2 is added to the Sky guide you will be able to record it. A Freesat system can record both.

All the ITV channels are free on satellite,UPC is overpriced for what it offers and is now actually more expensive than Sky when you break down the costs of what people actually watch on it.

I'm meant to be getting UPC installed on Monday, I will definitely be cancelling that now...

What a joke! No warning despite them knowing that contract was due to expire.

And this talk of new channels, Ya right, as always I'll believe it when i see it.:mad:

Any chance of it being added too the sky guide how much would a freesat system be? Could u run it alongside Ntl? Or sky? I think Ntl have taken the Mick big time now really don't want anything too do with them

Freesat branded HD recorders are around €200-€300. Remember though, they offer some HD channels, proper two channel recording, and have no monthly subscription, ever. There are cheaper "non-Freesat" branded options available.

You can run Freesat alongside UPC, but it will need its own cabling to a satellite dish.

...will the channels be added to Sky? Nobody knows.

Wow, this is quite a suprise. I can think of a few people who are gonna be p***ed at this news.. And they live in an apartment block so no FTA satellite for them.

UPC have had 2/3/4 for how long? Less than a year I think and they didn't even read the contract properly?

    January 2010 they joined.

Knew it wasn't that long, so they add channels presumably knowing that there was a likely sword of Damocles hanging over them for April 1 2011?

So that confirms the issue is actually with TV3 and not that the channels are going to Sky.

Thanks TV3, you won't have Hell's Kitchen for months and there was only 4 episodes left on ITV2

Not to sound like a UPC apologist or anythign but Bravo and Channel 1 are gone from everywhere, not just UPC. Sky bought the Living/Virgin group and got rid of some hannels (like those) and rebranded others (Living becomes Sky Living)

Fan of Hells Kitchen myself. ITV3 and ITV4 were usually decent options for a late night 80s film too

Annoying for me as none of the garbage that caused the dispute (the TV3 junk) interests me at all

Are you sure that would have been available via the UPC ITV4 feed? Most live sports events broadcast on ITV4 were blocked by UPC and they just showed a blank screen, there was usually a message on the info screen saying that it couldn't be shown in the ROI.
