Schools are in camp this week in Kings Hospital - Was wondering if any squad would come out of that.
Possibly. May wait until Christmas when schools usually play against clubs

Munster phase 1 at under 16 and 18 level taking shape with most teams about halfway through their games in this group stage.
Ennis, Skibbereen, Douglas-Carrigaline, Kilfeacle, Waterpark looking strong at 16s so far

Young Munster, Nenagh, Old Crescent, Newcastle West, Bandon, Cobh, Cashel-Fethard and Waterpark at 18s

Munster U18 Competitions adjusted to now be U18.5 with immediate effect.

Age range is now 1st July 1999 to 31st December 2001 - Which is a big age range.

From this week-end you could have players that are still 15 years old playing against guys almost 18 and a half.

Nothing wrong with the change in principal but it should have been down at the start of the season in conjunction perhaps with a similar shift at U16 or the introduction of an U17 league.

Doing it now when the leagues are already up and running isn't a great idea in my view..

In smaller clubs some players may have already left the club to play 20's elsewhere but might still be playing with their original team if this had been done at the start of the season.

And just like that - The Munster branch change their minds again.

18.5 change now NOT going ahead this season - Munster Cup will remain as U18 comp for this season, with all age groupings to be reviewed in the off-season..

Clearly enough clubs expressed concerns about the mid-season change so they cancelled it..

All could have been avoided if they'd actually consulted with clubs before making announcements.

Now clubs have to go back to players and say "Sorry , you can't actually play with us - Off you go back to the wilderness for the year"...

Most 18.5s will now be 18 years of age bar those born in second half of november or in december so are eligible for adult rugby so now its not actually back to the wilderness.
Shame that clubs didnt see that this would be better for them than keeping status quo.
This change should mean that next season there needs to be an under 17 competition so competitions are then lined up with Connacht and Leinster and we could have an all ireland youths competition again

My issue is that for example I coach an U18 side , based on the announced change I brought back 4 players to train with the U18's and now a few weeks later I have to tell them to leave the squad.

Our Club doesn't have a 20's side and 3 of the 4 are still 17 so they effectively will have to wait until the new year before possibly playing Gleeson league or whatever..

It's just really poor management and totally inconsiderate to the players. Why didn't they consult the clubs, get input etc. before making the announcement which would have avoided disrupting players unnecessarily.

It's yet another example of the committees not talking to those they are supposed to represent and more importantly putting consideration of how the young players themselves feel/react at the lowest priority level..

Poorly communicated but right idea. Should have been done and talked about 3 months earlier though

Clubs should be working with branch for an under 20 competition like whats ran in Connacht for this season. Clubs turn up with whatever numbers they have to each blitz(there is 5/6 in the season). All clubs get points no matter what for playing and clubs encouraged to turn up even if they dont have enough players to play on their own.
How far from a club playing 20s are you? Could they go on loan to play 20s so ensured they have rugby to play.
The committee are trying to get more kids playing. Cant fault them for that. Criticism of how decision was handled is fair but the decision to change was correct as it should help get more fielding at 18s
The provincial committee who made decision would have reps from the 4 regions and who should be in communication with the reps from the clubs who are on the regional committees so it cant be just the provincial committee who get criticism for this. Why didnt clubs do more earlier??

Any thoughts on competitions across the country so far. Munster competitions been talked about a bit here but little on the other provinces.

Just a thought What club(s) would people see as the strongest youths sections in the country?
Waterpark, Ballina, Navan would be up there but which others?
