They can treat it like a 20 20 now.
150 runs needed, 10 wickets in hand. 27 overs to get them, but lets get them in 20....

Sorry not being serious but from this position it should be comfortable, but need to keep the concentration once a wicket falls

This is the opening partnership we've been asking for all tournament. Stirling is obviously showing why he's our opener, his ability to feast on Associate bowling. I really hope he gets his century, but I also hope that doesn't hide the fact that he has a lot to learn at this level.
The crucial point of this innings is going to be when we lose our first wicket. Sri Lanka and India have already shown in the tournament what can happen after huge partnerships. Fingers crossed the new batsman can play himself in and build another partnership without hurting the scoring rate too much. Crucial that we don't ship a few quick wickets though. There are still a lot of runs to get.

    Oh for goodness sake.

Great start provided by the openers. Joyce and NOB in now and they have started slow, required rate is around 6.0

Wickets so often fall in pairs...

Ed and Niall know what needs to be done.

119 needed at about 6 an over.

Should be a stroll, doesn't need risks, only concentration.

111 needed now, Ed with 2 fours....

This morning has it in for me....

    This is a pleasant surprise.
    Openers getting scores.

    Sorry to hear about Georgey.

We just need one of these two to stick in and get a decent half century and we should be ok. The Dutch completely strangled the run rate there for a while, 14 off 5 overs at one point. If we just build a partnership here, the runs will start coming again.

Fingers crossed Dockrell will be ok too. It would be a real shame if the start of his county career was marred by this. Johan Djourou just dislocated his shoulder and he's out for at least 6 weeks though, and his arms aren't all that important.

Bizarrely, we now have 2 of the top 4 fastest centuries in World Cup history.

Shoulders are complicated things in so far as I can see.
It could be fairly simple or it could be a horror show.

Hopefully it will be the former.
    Was it his bowling arm?

Afaik it was his right arm so shouldn't be as bad...

    I'd take batting powerplay now.

It is so often the cue for wickets, but Ireland have used them quite well.

    Ed and Niall are set.
    38 overs gone

    Oops Joyce gone.

    Whats the score now?

Internet filter at work:mad:, and Aertel website is a shock

    74 needed off 70 balls.

    233/3

Required rate is now around 7 an over. That's not easy to keep up without losing wickets. And when you lose wickets that puts even more pressure on the scoring rate.

Oh, a 6 from Wilson. If these two can bat out the next 5 overs, that gives us a license to smash it a bit at the end.

Crikey! 16 off 3 balls. That takes a bit of pressure off alright.

    52 needed off 55.

Wilson with a 6, 6, 4 and if he's going for them, then the powerplay should be taken!

    Good lad Gary.:D

  • Registered Users Posts: 343 ✭✭reb73

The lad are making it look very easy, perhaps Ireland's batsmen only turn up to chase targets over 300 ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 343 ✭✭reb73

Batting powerplay taken, 34 runs in 36 balls - should be comfortable with 7 wickets in hand - let's see how it pans out :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,498 ✭✭✭Mothman

    Powerplay taken, 28 runs needed

    could finish quite quickly.

    Edit

    Enter KOB

    Wilson out.

    28 needed off 33 balls

Can't believe we may get over 300 and win this. Come on lads!

Must say I've enjoyed the CWC this year. Been interesting watching Ireland's progress. And thankfully haven't found the games boring. It's hard to tear yourself away at any shot because something can happen in an instance.

    Awesome.

  • Registered Users Posts: 302 ✭✭actwithoutwords

Ha. KOB wins it with a six. A fitting end to the tournament. Great stuff lads.

  • Registered Users Posts: 223 ✭✭Fox1978

FANTASTIC! Important win for our reputation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Cremated

The only thing I find annoying is that I had Joyce to score 29+ runs and he is out for 28 :o but what a chase :), and two Irish lads with the two fastest centuries...
