Gonna get stuck into this in a while! I've been looking up and apparently you can get a Dodge Viper GTS (my fave car) twin turbo in the DLC? Then other people said its already in the game. Can anyone clear this up for me please? Much prefer it to the SRT10.
i would not know much about vipers, but i deffenetly raced in one on shift 2

Ya, i'm guessing that was the SRT10. Any good to drive can ya remember?

Try using these settings that were posted over in the shift 2 thread on rllmuk sheehy83.

They made a massive difference for me :)

Wow...Before settings, came 8th. After settings, came 2nd. The Lotus Exige was completely under my control! Would have come 1st if it wasn't for the aggressive AI! Usually in an arcade racer, i'm muscling my way through while AI takes it but this is the opposite, I try to keep away from them as they will send you right off the track everytime!

Yeah they really do make a big difference, some cars I couldn't even drive in a straight line before I applied those settings lol. Agree about the AI, I'm playing on hard and you pretty much have to drive a perfect race every single time, any contact and it's race over. Good job I like a challenge :D

Speaking of man, i'm getting sick of this haha I'm on Dijon circuit (havn't a clue if I spelled that right) and can't get past the 1st corner without having to restart. If i'm ahead of the pack, someone nudges me and i flip into a spectacular crash. Same happens if i'm in the middle of the pack as well. Really is one of the worst bits about the game. I'm determined to finish this race tho!

Oh for sure dude. The collision detection is really off in this game. It's a lot, lot worse online though (so bad in fact I've stopped playing). Another thing that annoys me - is when you try to overtake on the inside corner, a lot of the time the car on the outside will clip your back wing and gets stuck resulting in you both going off the track in a straight line. Quite annoying but the close racing more than makes up for it.

Well It was elimination race, so I got it supplied. I jumped from Elise on viper... It was... Interesting.... Like going from little nibble pornstar on big fat farm cow on anabolics.

Car is fast, but it's heavy as feck... It's even worse when you got used on Elise.

    What wheel have you got?
Since the patch there is no lag at all, previous to that it was terrible.
If you can get your hands on a wheel you owe it to yourself to do so.
Wheel V pad is a no brainer.

Have a Logitech DFGT! Handling still seems to be unpredictable and dodgy for me. Have you got a wheel or link to any decent settings?

I think this is the best racer I ever played! Never thought I would like (almost) Sim circuit racing, now I'm thinking of trying GT5! I'm even watching the replays, which I never do in a racer!

Got the Viper, much preferred it to the elise, can't wait to buy one. Although saying that, nearly every loaner car I was getting, I wanted to keep! The Nissan GTR with right hand drive was well class! Currently with a Supra on the retro courses.

I actuolly prefer shift 2 to gt5. Gt5 is not as good as you might think. That impressive 1200 car list drops to 150, becomes non premium cars are just copy paste from gt4. Very very low poligon details, no incabin view too. Choose of premium car is just weird at times. Supra mk3 is premium, mk4 is not... Buggati veyron non premium, little ****y 60hp roadster is premium.... A.I. Just drives on rails. No interaction or ramdomnes. Horrible.

Stick to shift 2, way more fun, even if it's not 100% , sim.

I was looking up vids of GT5 and it doesn't look any where near as fun. Fun would be more important than sim anyway to me. In Shift, driving into a hairpin in the middle of a pack of cars has you on the edge of your seat holding your breath til your out the other end. Like Phantom said, as annoying as the collision detection is, its great when your driving skill gets you through a possibly car wrecking situation.

Huge Risk/Reward in Shift 2 means when you 'master a corner' to overtake a guy, it feels better than coming 1st in most other racers. Wouldn't mind playing this online with people who wouldn't act like its destruction derby, will def give it a go when PSN is back up.

If you think shift 2 or indeed GT5 is a sim you should take a look at iracing, nothing comes anywhere close.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,499 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

That iRacing looks very interesting, can't get into it in work but will have a look later!

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,499 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Wouldn't mind giving this setup a go!

    Here we go with iracing....

Yes, it's more realistic sim, but for mortal gamers games like this work very good.

Iracing pricing is just unbelievable!!! There is no point even picking it up, if you don't have racing wheel. You got to devote so much money and time to it. You can't just jump I'm and jump out when you want or your ranking will go kaput.

It's best racing sim, but pricing and strictness turns me off it. When I get better on money I might pick it up... For now games like forza and shift 2 makes me happy!

Ya, would say u'd need a wheel alright and would prefer to spend that money on my own car! Plus I hate subscriptions to play games. Looks good if you're into it tho.

Anyone here get the Legends pack DLC? Worth it?

Sub + pay for tracks + pay for cars. And it's not 1-2eu for each..

As for legends pack. I personally wont get it unless it will go on sale. I got enough cars in standard edition. Plus not much interest in cars offered in dlc.

Ya, im's still ages away from getting proper cars in this so I shouldn't even be thinking about DLC yet haha

Just saw on Gamefaqs that patch 1.02 was released yesterday. Anyone get this?

One quote from a user below:
Holy freakin cow..., the XBox 360 patch is AMAZING! There is a major difference in the handling now. Steering input is much better, and the vehicles are certainly more responsive. I've been testing it with the game pad on my 360.., I haven't tried it with my MS Racing Wheel yet.., but will do so very soon.

I'm currently waiting for the patch to finish uploading on my PS3 too. So.., at the moment I can't comment on the PS version (YET). If it's anything like the 360.., it's going to be sweeet!

Strange, just put this on and said I would check the custome settings and saw they were all put back to default (steering sensitivity, etc.) Will have to check this next time I put it on as well. Hope we get that patch soon!

Edit: Oh and quick question. I'm on the retro races level 6 or 7 but it doesn't say what class A,B,C,D. Can you drive an A class retro in an retro event?

I was wondering same. I just upgraded quite alot. B or a, but it does not feel I got edge over them.

Yup, steering lag is massively reduced now. Handling is pretty much spot on after the patch.

Just did that event last night. You can use any class. I used a works Supra and still found it pretty tough to beat the Corolla on the first race. Rest of the races were a breeze after that though except for the last one which is at night.

Ya, read that if you up your class, the AI does too. All except the the boss race (D Mac the Irish lad :D) Guess I will have to do a works conversion coming up against him. Had a great 'Shift 2 ad' moment in one of the retro races. Bating into a tunnel with one AI car ahead, he breaks too late going into the tunnel and clips a stack of tires. The tires go flying onto the track and he spins. Heading straight for him I yank the steering to miss him by and inch and zip past. Some rush haha.

    What cars ye using?

Looks like the Dodge Viper Twin Turbo is in the Standing Mile DLC.

So that patch is out already? Xbox too?

I did not said it's bad, but it costs a fortune. So offering that to gamers who want just go and drive with some level of reality games like shift forza and gt is a better deal.

I never said you said it was bad.
People mentioned a sim hence why i mentioned iracing.
Its offered to everyone, pro and amateur racing drivers, gamers ,non gamers, sim enthusiasts alike.
Its geared to those who want super realism, clean online racing in a structured sanctioned manner.
For years and years thats something money could not buy, now it can, true its expensive but as the saying goes you pay for what you get, dont diss those that choose to pay for what they see as a hobby and the closest they will ever get to real life racing.
Its a niche market, it offers the best at what it does.
To these people forza,shift,gt5 etc simply dont cut it.
Personally i dip in and out of iracing,im more a casual simracer these days and i do enjoy shift 2 etc on pc ofcourse :)

Ill ask again, have you tried iracing?

    sorry.

nope i did not m8. i dont have steering wheel so i dont even bother. playing it on keyboard is like poking porstar with a stick and not with..... well you get me...

i seen few reviews and sim racing enthusiast videos. its good, really good, but very big investment. i would not mind paying sub for it, but sub+ pay for cars and tracks...

Money is not great, i even had to park away skyline for awile and sit in to ****box to get to work... there is no way i can afford g27 wheel for 300quid...

applying for mortgage does not help too...
