Why was TV not available?? That sounds very strange...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭noellinnane

my house was either still being built, or hadnt even started being built when UPC were upgrading the rest of the street... well thats what in installer said....

    So anyway, imagine? LOL

3G/HSPA is better value than Imagine WiMax as it works better, Mobile and can be similar price.

Not Broadband either and can work worse. On both systems it depends how many other users in your area and quality of signal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,236 ✭✭✭lucernarian

Why don't they add your house to the cable network on the rest of the street? This "not available" outcome sounds more like an excuse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭noellinnane

Ill call UPC tomorrow and see what they can do, if anything. Yeah I was thinking myself, when he said the house next door have it and yet he cant connect us up....

They have wrong place/location for your address

watty, the installer himself came out to the house and said it wasn't available. The system said they could order broadband/tv.

The cheeky bum bums charged me the €4 for "internet security" this month. Got straight onto them via email and said I specifically requested no security, and in fairness to them, they were back to me in 10 minutes, took it off my account and credited me back.

Still going strong anyway. I noticed new neighbours in our building are (assumedly) using Imagine Wimax, as I saw the modem pointing out their window. Seems to slow a little bit durnig the evening, but can still game, download, etc., with no problems.

I am in Kilcoole Co.Wicklow where Eircom have only been able to muster a 0.6 to 0.8Mb connection for years.

After looking around at the limited possibilities available to me I thought I'd give Imagine WiMax a go — well it had to be better than what I was stuck with!

I emailed them on Monday night, received a phone call on Tuesday from a friendly chap who explained everything to me and I decided to go for the 7Mb package without phone. Got a call on Wednesday to organise installation between 11 and 12 on Thursday. Then in Thursday morning I cot a conformation call from the installers who then arrived at 11:15! So far I was impressed with their service but now for the main issue — can they actually provide me with what I ordered?

The answer so far is yes.

After 3 days connected to their service I can't fault them — getting 10Mb on a 7Mb package ain't bad. Granted it is more often around 6 to 7.5Mb.

Having read so many negatives about this service I am surprised how good mine has been so far. Yes, anything would be better than what I was getting from Eircom but this does seem good so far. If it lasts I can only wait and see!

Most of the people here seem to be using them in very built up (and therefore high-demand areas) with indoor equipment that reduces the capacity of Imagine's infrastructure further. In an area where most people will get outdoor installs and there's also fewer customers in a particular sector served from a base station, the technology should work much better. I assume Kilcoole is one such example.

The above is also why I believe that classifying Imagine's mobile wimax as midband is not always technically justified. Some of Imagine's product will take in areas that will have have an inherently scarce or non-existent number of self-install customers. Mount Oriel in Louth would be a good example of such a service area.

You are right. I am not in a built up area and from what I asked of the installers there are not that many in my area using them. Plus my modem is mounted to the antanna pole on my chimney. The installer reckoned fixing the modem to the front of the house would work but I'd get better reception if it was above roof level!

I'm in Greystones and have had Wimax for 3 months. Perfect reliability, paying for 7MB and never get below it, like Atlantean I often get around 10MB. I also got the VOIP phone option and transferred the landline number to it:- audio quality is perfect.

I have an external install, and have perfect line of sight to the base station. Mind you. I had external Breeze for 5 years before that, and it was perfect too.

Good to hear. I didn't go with the VOIP option as I was concerned the link may be to slow for it and I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket — having said that, so far I am sure it is more than capable of doing the job!

Your blessed - I've been having the the same crap service for a full YEAR.
Now time to dump the contract!

Sadly I'm not on my own as the reviews posted on the net show.

As someone who was stuck with Eircoms ancient lines which could not even manage 1Mb I thought I'd stick my neck out and try WiMax — even 2Mb would have been an improvement! Having read so many posts on here and elsewhere I did wonder if I was mad or not — I wonder if it will last though?

Getting WiMax in the parents house in the midlands and thought i'd log our experiences here. Just received the welcome letter today and should have it installed within a week.

On hardware supplied, it says ''New Promo(Jan 2011) WiMax External CPE 7''

Does that mean we are receiving an external antenna on the side of the house? That doesn't exactly give me confidence for the strength of the signal in my area :(

My contract ended with them in Feb 11. I had enough off them after around 2 months. Speeds were shocking and the throttling of torrents was a disgrace. I am still receiving a bill off them. Yes still receiving a bill despite not having renewed my contract.

STAY AWAY FROM IMAGINE. THEY PROVIDE A JOKE OF A SERVICE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,236 ✭✭✭lucernarian

You have to officially notify them that you don't want their service anymore. The length of the contract is a minimum of 12 months, after that time the contract continues into perpetuity and will only end after you give them 30 days notice to cease service.

Pardon me I should have been more specific. I emailed them 3 times during the months of jan and feb 11. I have also rang them 4 to 5 times since asking as to why I am still being billed. Each time I get their pathetic excuse of customer service.

I have the Motorola CPEo 450 which is mounted on the TV antenna pole on the roof of my house. I have a Triax amplified aerial pointing towards the Arfon transmitter mounted above it but it does not seem to interfere with it

Ring customer care, ask for a cancel request to be logged and ask for a reference number, sorted.

hate to contradict you, but it actually says slower than 99% of ireland, not eircom.

Been with Imagine since Feb, and apart from an occasional network drop, it's been OK, and we're on VOIP as well, and that works reasonably well as well, and it's a lot cheaper than Eircom!!!

Just got it in. A motorola External CPEo 450 and an internal Thompson TG585 router. 4 out of 5 signal LED's are lighting on the motorola.
