Sigh, the more I read about SF the more I like them. On the other hand their idea of economical solutions is very daft. I suppose you take the good with the bad. Just so I'm clear on all of it, if SF do get into power, will they senf someone into be taoiseach?

    They wont get into power!!

Our economy is F##ked, why would you vote for someone who's economic policy you find in your own words daft?

    Truth hurts eh??

Will you just please stop posting in my thread? To put it bluntly, at one point I'm 99% sure all leaders in some way, comitted some crime. It doesn't matter how the did it. No leader is perfect. You've said your opinion on SF, thank you, no please stop trying to rile up people.

Lab - would go in with FG, which means they will probably get into power over this weekend. The are centre left and they support unions and are willing to stand up for those in the lower classes. They want to renegotiate the bailout deal and wish to tax those more well off.

SF - a bit more picky on their chosen partners, they wish to remain with all-left parties. Though they did have talks with labour and the ULA recently, but Labour did not wish for a coalition with them. They are more left than labour and generally stand for the working man/woman on the lower end of things. The wish to tell the IMF to stuff it, and are more about taxing Irelands wealthiest!

And for all the RA head comments, O'Caolin, O'Snodagh and Doherty, 3 out of their last 5 Dáil members has nothing to do with the IRA, Ferris and Morgan were, but they are politicians now, and if we were to hold that bias to everyone DeV and Collins would not have been politicians. I like the idea of a politician who will do everything they can to fight for what they believe!

Alright I'm more than likely blind but... all that reads to me is that they just want a united ireland and not to forget the hardships we went true.

Ah, I see. So... how exactly (we'll assume they do get into power for this example) do they go ahead with their policies?

Perhaps CF you may want to look a SF website to give you some info ----

    http://www.sinnfein.ie/home

Oh and btw I can't find Lordsutch's photo display on that website:confused::confused:

They would be like The green party with Fianna Fail.. They would be allowed to introduce some of their policies to keep them quiet and onside.. They will never have a majority..well, not in the next 15 years anyway.

They would be the minor party in the coalition..

Labour are willing to go in government with a far right wing party so Labour voters may as well vote for FG.
Sinn Fein would not go into government with a far right party and would make a very good opposition party to stop what has happened in the last 4 years from happening again.

You could reverse that and say you might as well exchange your Fine Gael vote for the Socialist Workers party as Fine Gael are prepared to go into government with a party from the left

The leaders - Gerry Adams claims he was never a member of the provisional IRA, Eamon Gilmore and the official IRA???

I've been having a poke around it for most of the day (along with the labour one) and the closest thing I found to the display was some of the best sellers here: http://www.sinnfeinbookshop.com/catalog/index.php

Ah, I understand. So unless (for some bizzare reason) Fianna Fáil get back in, it's going to be some sort of "we'll go with their policies just to keep them happy" if a small party is paired with a big one (in terms of power).

    Nobody believes him though.

I actually don't get that. I honestly think he was a member but now he seems to be using politicts. Would it actually be that bad of a move if (assuming he was a member), to admit it? I mean it's like he would say "yes, I was a member and yes, I will still use violent methods to get votes so give me votes or I'll blow you up". Wouldn't it be better that he was using peaceful methods now?

The problem that I and others have is one of hypocrisy.

I have far more time for Martin McGuinness who at least has stood up and said "yes, I was active in the IRA".

The problem with Gerry is he has spent so long denying things he has painted himself into a corner. He talks about trust and transparency which is just hypocritical when he obfuscates his own past so much.

Any time he talks about honesty from politicians his words are invalidated by his own dishonesty.

And if Sinn Fein want to become a modern political party that doesn't inspire so much hatred in the people of Ireland then they need to stop selling teeshirts glorifying murderers on their website.

I still would't vote for them mind you. They are far too 'marxist' for my tastes.

I wouldn't have the same issues with other people voting for them though.

I understand but between them all, I only like labour and SF. I won't vote anyone who's against abortion or gay marriage so that really does just leave those two parties and I do agree with a lot of their policies.

What constituency are you in CF, who specifically are your LAB and SF candidates?:)

SF are extremists where Labour are rather conservative on Economics views. Labours policies are closer to FG's except for more refrom on constitutional matter and less public sector cuts.

Whereas Labour are willing to come to some sort of agreement to get into power with FG, SF have no such inclination. The have pretty much publicly denounced any sort of a coalition with any other major party. This means that they know they would never have to act on any of the promises they make.

Therefore they can say anything they want, regardless of how outrageous it may sound.
