People are definitely the same on boards. The corpses of Roma gypsies, asylum seekers, immigrants, socialists and Catholics that litter the streets are clear evidence of that.

you know theres some crimes that you dont do only because theyre illegal , not or any moral objection but just fear of prison - to me thats most crimes, 1 sentance written on a bit of paper is the only thing stopping your observation being true

I think since you don't think any of those groups are human beings, and the law pertains to humans, you might be able to defend your genocide in court.

Just something to think about, you know :p

I refuse to believe people act the same way in life...

    For example,
You dont get it so much in After hours, but particularly in other forums you get people forcing their own opinion onto others and often even running down anothers because it doesnt agree with their own...

same people in the real world wouldnt be so forward.

Something you notice with some posters in print who come across as if there's is the first and last word on a point or subject ( not talking about mods ) as if it's gospel .But soon as somebody disputes or has a different viewpoint they get very peeved or defensive.

There's a difference in expressing ourself with the written word here on boards which allows us time to think things out and use our thought process to explain or reply to something that much better .In real live we would be looking at the body language and tone of voice as much as to what the person is saying .

In real life I would probablly be more animated and earthy in my comments / opinions ,not forceful but more laid back .

well in real life when someone is telling me a story about a loved one or ex girlfriend who was sexually assaulted I interrupt the sad story by yelling PICS OR GTFO!

So yeah I do and I also have prosthetic arms :(

What's it Oscar Wilde said, about giving a man a mask so that he can show his true self?

...what I'm trying to say is that I'm exactly the same on here as in real life, except even more awesome:p

With almost 25,000 posts on boards I doubt you have much of a life to live, zing!

go on bite your tongue

You can't be exactly the same, seeing as this environment and real life are so different - you're not having a discussion with lots and lots of people on a constant basis in real life, and you rarely if ever get comments along the lines of some of the stuff said here.

You are so lucky if you think that only happens on forums! I often read the more controversial forums on boards and honestly I see nothing in there that I don't regularly hear in real life. For the most part I think people are the same.

I usually equate Boards personalities with people I know in real life, just to put a face to the piss-blasting so to speak, sometimes I even suspect they might really be the same person...I never have trouble picking someone I know that fits the bill!

Oh I know it happens in real life too :P
Its just in my experience people are more likey to voice their opinion harder on the net than in real life. Generally like. But you always get hardcore opinionists in real life too.

One thing i do think that is different is that from boards-to-real life .. is typically you can get alot of 'PC'-ness on boards.ie (not everyone now)

Well, I'm very animated when talking / telling stories and I'm self-depreciating / insulting to others in equal measures.............but in a light-hearted, loveable way...............*cough*

It's harder to come across like that here, I just come across as a prick who's posts get taken up the wrong way. :pac:

People's opinions don't bother me as my inner voice will quickly categorise them, i.e. "Fùckin' idiot!" both here and in real life :P

indeed, a lot of my real life views would get me banned on boards, Also I can never post my true views in PI

    I facepalm alot more IRL.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,766 ✭✭✭squeakyduck

    I guess so....:D

It's alot easier to argue on boards than it is in real life! :P

I dunno. I 'act' depending on the situation. In real life, if I'm around people I know and am comfortable with, I'm relaxed and chatty and will say exactly how I feel etc. If I'm around people I don't know, I'm more reserved for the simple fact that I'm quite shy.

This is an internet message board. I guess I censor myself to a degree because firstly, anyone can read the things I put on here and yeah, being open and honest is great and all, but realistically, there are people who I'd prefer didn't have access to certain information etc. Secondly, I think it's important to be more careful, I suppose, when expressing opinions or making jokes to people you don't know for the very fact that you don't know them, so it's harder to judge a response and you just cannot know what might offend.

    So, no.

Yep something I sometimes do which can take the sting out of a witty or humourous reply by me, making it seem like I'm all serious when in fact I'm just being careful about wording , some peoples feelings and not to come across as being silly .

For instance I was in two minds the other day weather to use the word 'Gypo ' or Gypsy ' to describe a group of people but in the end didn't use any of those words. Novella puts it so well below

Nail on head .Nothing worse than somebody misunderstanding or taking your words out of context even though you (and maybe they) know you were not implying anything ,when any offense is unintentional

I'm less sweary and rude on here than in real life, unless I'm around the family - then I wouldn't say a thing.
