who'd have thought a few months ago of senna driving in a lotus renualt with the jps livery in 2011, i'd say its unlikely to happen but. hulkenburg or heidfield are the most likely to get the seat

Anyone got the press conference on the go?

crazy news..what was he doing rallying anyway? ferrari wont even let their drivers go skiing!
In fairness, skiing is one of the more dangerous things you can do. Tens of thousands of people get injured on the slopes every year. Motorsport IS dangerous but with modern safety standards the drivers generally climb out of the car after most accidents.

Hopefully Kubica can be back to full fitness and back in his car before too long.

Didn't find it but twitter leads me to believe that Renault have confirmed he has multiple fractures.

If the barrier came in through the car as is being reported, He is a lucky man if he got away with all limbs attached.

Sky news reporting that he was on his way to a rally stage, not actually in the rally. id be very surprised if that is true

He was 4.6km into the stage. The good news is that his arm wont be amputed but hes got multple fractures. Doctors were concentrating on getting blood supply to his his arm. He was trapped in the car for over an hour. I hope we see him in F1 again.

Scandalous reporting from sky news so. To have a high speed crash on the way to a stage would suggest irresponsible behaviour. Glad its not true.

All the messages to Kubica from drivers around the world is fantastic, hope he can recover well, only 26 so a long way to go in his career.

Kubica will be out of surgery soon and an update will follow in a few hours time according to noblef1 on twitter (autosport journalist)

Apparently the barrier cut through the engine bay and chassis and entered the cockpit. Doubt he will be back before the end of the season (if at all)

This is dreadful news and I hope Robert makes a speedy and successful recovery. Robert is one of the few "racers" in F1 and I for one have no doubt that if he were in a competitive car, he would be world champion. A popular and deserved one at that too.

What worries me though is how severe the injuries are. Autosport said
After being transferred to the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure, Kubica underwent surgery on Sunday afternoon for the injuries he suffered - with doctors believed to be focusing their efforts on his injured hand and, in particular, its blood supply.

An update from the hospital in the afternoon said that the operation on Kubica would continue until Sunday evening. And although amputation of the hand had been ruled out, it was too early to give a prognosis on how well the hand would recover from the injuries it suffered.
I hope the prognosis is far better than the implication in this report.

I was being very positive about the whole thing 'ah sure he'll be okay' but that photo is shocking. What kind of barrier is doing this and why is it used?

My thoughts are with him, I always knew he had potential if in the right car (see. Mark Webber for example of being in the right car).

Hope everything heals and he gets racing again soon!

latest stuff on twitter says hand surgery finished,
Kubica to remain in intensive care unit for at least five days. Specialist says that rehabilitation could take at least a year.
Robert limbs are good, but rehabilitation will take at least year says prof. Rossello who performed surgery
TVN24: hand surgery is over, now started second on Kubica's arm

Unlikely. Sky don't seem to talk about any sports other than Premier League football and cricket.

Just heard about this. Hopefully he comes out of it ok.

It's never a good thing when a surgeon has to "rebuild the whole anatomy of the forearm"

Terrible news, I hope he is ok and regains full use of his hand.

Hopefully we will get to see him race in F1 again, He is a great racer and i enjoy watching him but that was a terrible accident and he is lucky to be alive, I hope he makes a full recovery.

From listening to the doctor on the video, his whole arm is in bits. Him saying that they will need a year to know how it is working out doesnt sound to me like he will ever return to an F1 car. Anyone Ive ever heard of before that needed a massive rebuild of a limb like that generally are left with a lack of feel etc at best. Not what an F1 guy needs. Still, Im sure he got the top people working on him so hopefully he will recover fully. Lucky to be alive too.

True but look at Zanardi, he lost both his lower legs and is still racing at the top level.

Well not the top level. He was fast when they put him in for a few laps in Champ Car but I doubt the turbo was to regulations. :pac:

Since when is the World Touring Car Championship not top level?

It's top of that bit of motorsport, same as Arena Football was top level of Gridiron when it was around.

Its the top tier for saloon racing, its not stock car racing in somebody's back garden.

    We'll agree to disagree.

Your one of those people who watch f1 on a Sunday and call themselves a motorsport enthusiast arent you? theres more than 1 top tier. f1 for single seaters, wrc for rallying, wtcc for touring cars and the sprint cup for stock cars.
    dont be so closed minded.

all the best to Robert though. Had 30 quid on him to win this years championship.

Regardless of accidents, WTCC is pretty much top level for a driver of Zanardi's age.
