Shouldn't be disbanded or the thank-whores might infect the other forums, and some of topics are usually good enough and interesting once you skip past the first page of thanks-whoring and attempts at 'witty' comments. Although sometimes you get the odd funny comment

First off this is in no way a wind up. I'm being serious here. Does After Hours really serve any meaningful purpose any more? I suppose you could say this "out-burst" is being fuelled by the Michaela Harte threads. So far we have had 2 threads about her death. One of them started out well intended but both descended in pathetic sniping among members, people posting idiotic comments and jokes etc.

It seems that certain people who frequent AH's seen to think they are superior to others and that they are 'required' to post juvenile (or what they believe to be witty) comments because "this is After Hours".

Over in the GAA forum a similar thread was created to pay respect to Michaela. And that's just what people did. Very little of the silly sniping and speculating, just people genuinely paying their respects to a young woman tragically murdered.

But what does After Hours achieve any more? As one person pointed out a few days ago that it has basically become Aertel 103. Every second thread seems to be about the government, the economy or the church. But isn't there specify forums for these topics. Sure people will say "but AH's is here to look at these topics humorously". Yet if someone created a humorous thread about a sporting issue it would be locked straight away as "this isn't the sports forum". Similarly we seem to be allowed to discuss certain "celebrities" here but not others. No consistency.

Which is why I ask do we really need After Hours. I'm sure their are forums for the majority of threads currently in AH's so why don't we just use these. Or at least give the After Hours forum some sort of identity. As has been said; this isn't Aertel 103...

Typical Joe Duffy caller mentality - "I don't like it so it should be shut down and banned"

Look, if you don't like it, don't look at it. I don't like Formula 1, so I have absolutely zero interest in Formula 1 threads. It doesn't mean I'm calling out for them to be shut down. If you find AH boring or offensive, don't look at it.

I think it's great. Nothing like the thrill of posting a new thread about something you want to discuss. Everyone has an honest opinion.

This is basically the GENERAL DISCUSSION message base,ANYTHING CAN BE DISCUSSED HERE....

No i dont think it should be deleted!

But Im not going to start a thread about F1 in After Hours. I'll do that in the Motorsport forum. So why should we be constantly inundated with threads on every little political matter in AH's when there is a political forum on Boards for such topic?

In fairness AH is a reflection of society, most folks are decent, but there are alot of assholes out there and when they get to hide behind a computer and a username they can say things they never would in public. I love that saying "thanks whores".

'disbanded' is not the right word is it?

Its up to MODs to move threads if they are posted in the wrong section.

I am very tempted to open an F1 thread in AH to see how long before it gets booted to motor sports :p

I used to be with you there (actually I think there should be an AH Politics subforum) but I've slightly changed my mind.

There is one key element to your statement that makes it fail: most people posting in political threads on AH wouldn't last 1 second in the Politics forum.

Whereas AH is sort of the "everyman's" opinion on politics - the kind of discussion you might have in a pub, Politics forum is more geared towards informed discussions with evidence and logic to back the statements.

starbelgrade, this comment is the sort of thing I'm talking about. Your post was the first reply to this thread. And you expressed your opinion on it. However a few minutes you decided to change you entire post. Take out your opinion. Insert smartarse response in a bid to get as many thanks as possible as it was the first reply to a thread...

That, in my opinion is a bit sad and pathetic. Some people seem more concerned with recieving 'Thanks' and trying to be a smartarse than actually expressing an opinion on a subject.
How do you KNOW he's looking for thanks? There seems to be quite a few people here who think they can read minds.
The trend of writing a smartarse comment on an After Hours thread was in existence long before the much obsessed-over thanks system. The way thanks is analysed forensically and causes so much upset is the sad and pathetic thing IMO...

    QFT.
Usually the biggest dry-balls get the most upset about it as well.

Not refering to you, but if there is people out there who put so much weight in thanks, I think its a bit sad.

Bu.......but I thought if I got enough thanks then I could woo the ladies?

Me: "Hey baby, guess how many thanks I've got on Boards?"
    Girl: *uninterested* "How much?"
Me: *Smarmy grin* "Over five thousand!"
    Girl: "..................I just came"

    Me: ".............so did I!"

Yes, but Im sure in the pre-Thanks days people didnt completely re-edit their posts, removing all their personal opinions on a topic just so they could make a smartarse comment. That is what starbelgrade did and its this type of Thanks whoring which I find a bit sad and pathetic.

On a more positive note, his posts are more interesting than yours are.

You still here? Has the irony of posting on a forum and questioning its existence not dawned on you yet?

I know those scumbags, they used to keep coming out of the drain outside my house stealing my pizza from the delivery guy.

Last I heard of them they were living with some rat...............either he's a snitch to the Gardaí or a giant rat, I'm not sure.
