While it loads it valiantly tries to be the normal page. Then 'rebellion' devours it.

Give it a sec... Ah, there it is, a tiny insignifigant piece of info. If you're going to go to all that trouble (maybe it was easy, but a gardai investigation will probably follow) add something better.

Nothing is safe, you put your faith in this political party and they take no measures to protect you.

They offer you free speech yet they censor your voice.

    I don't know what they're on about - I don't put my faith in f*cking Fine Gael.

If they were going to go to the trouble of hacking a website, they could have at least made it funny

Stick up the video of Inda on American Idol maybe??

They so deserve that, hope it teaches them to support Irish Jobs the next time they get their website overhauled.

Not quite, someone put some javascript in the comments box, the page isn't touched, just badly designed.

And yet the websites of other poltical parties are unaffected, including Fianna Fáil.

Yes they were different sites and did no have this vulnerability.

Did...did someone forget to sanitize their data inputs?

An Irish developer wouldn't forget to do that!

    For shame Mr. Kenny.

These hackers are like what Fine Gael will be after the next election - have all the power but do feck all with it.

    FAIL

I know, but I would have expected something like this to happen to Fianna Fáil before FG, disregarding the weaknesses of the FG site.

I suspect it could be someone else claiming to be them, though it's impossible to tell. No reason for anon to care about FG.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    A likely story.

I think we all know what's going on here. It's been pretty widely known that Mary Harney has been taking computer classes lately!

While the comment with the javascript were posted to the FG site by some ne'erdowells the site wasn't actually hacked. The message seems to be a generic anti-politics message, probably used on many sites.

Agree with Spears, the fact comments aren't stripped of <script> tags is a result of poor development/design.

It's more a defacement than a hack, as there was no hacking going on.

    Your website is ready.

This site has been successfully created and is ready for content to be added. Replace this default page with your own index page.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,584 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

Well that didn't last too long, kneejerk reaction if you ask me, disable comments and remove offending comments and you'd have a better solution. I suppose the NOC guys can't go poking around like that though.

There's also the curious case of the Plesk Default Page on http://finegael.org ...

But somehow I think the media reports on this tomorrow will not spot the difference!
OMG! We iz hacked! Tweets Fine Gael leader Kenny

One assumes Fine Gael will inform the data protection commission first thing tomorrow morning, as did boards.ie very effectively a couple of months ago.

Yes, Enda Kenny, Michael Noonan and James Reilly really need to brush up on their computer security skills.

Well if it was a javascript in a comment box vulnerability, it doesn't take a 'hacker' to do harm, just someone with basic skillz (often referred to as script kiddies). I'm sure if FFs site had such a weak flaw, it would have been taken down too. A crime of opportunity, rather than a statement*

    *probably.

Hah, it seems my comments were premature - it appears that some data was compromised, official pwnage :D

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0110/finegael.html
Fine Gael has confirmed that the contact details of just under 2,000 people were compromised in the attack on its website last night.

Data Protection Commissioner Billy Hawkes confirmed that the party contacted his office following the website attack.

In a statement Fine Gael said it had emailed all of those affected this morning to notify them.

    I thought FF's web address was www.finegael.ie

Setting up another unrelated site as a clone and defacing / editing that doesn't fall under the term "hacking".

FG had the finegael2011 site developed as part of their new super duper web social networking new paradigm strategy.
Well FG, I hope you're happy with your sh1tty new website.
