About half - 52. To be honest, I'm not going to read any more Jane Austen or Dickens or Shakespeare. Just not my cup of orange mocha frappucino. Must try to get through some of the others though. I have The Wasp Factory, The Remains of the Day and The Count of Monte Cristo on my "to-do" list already. Oh and Confederacy, now that parker kent mentioned he can't believe no-one read it0 -
More than half! Better result than I expected.

I've read 54, better than I'd expected. I remember seeing this list some years ago, when BBC were promoting "The Good Read" I think it was called. I found some great books there, including "A Prayer for Owen Meany" & "Birdsong" that I wouldn't have found otherwise.
I have a few more from that list on my "To Be Read" shelf, so will get to them eventually.0 -

I suck. Only 8
However;33 Chronicles of Narnia - CS Lewis
36 The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - CS Lewis
The L, the W and the W is the first book in the Chronicles of Naria. It's like listing the Harry Potter or LoTR series and also listing a paticular book in series,
BBC book fail imo
edit:
The list repeats itself a few times: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (36) is part of the Chronicles of Narnia series (33). Presumably Hamlet (98) also belongs to the complete works of Shakespeare (14). At a stretch, The Hobbit (16) might even fall under The Lord of the Rings (2) heading.
missed you'd already spotted that.
Hobbit isn't LoTRs though , also jsut noticed I pasted the wrong list.0 -
Have only read 1 for certain. Hamlet.0

Jasus -
I only have 11 on the list done and currently working through Ulysses at the moment.
Gave up on War and Peace - might go back to it.
And I am never ever ever going to read the DaVinci Code0 -
Books I have read:
4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling
5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
8 Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell
9 His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman
16 The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
18 Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
23 Bleak House - Charles Dickens (this one was missing from the OP!)
25 The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
36 The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - CS Lewis
41 Animal Farm - George Orwell
42 The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
99 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl
Books I own but haven't got around to reading yet:
10 Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
13 Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
24 War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy
27 Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevsky
32 David Copperfield - Charles Dickens
57 A Tale Of Two Cities - Charles Dickens
58 Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
62 Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
71 Oliver Twist - Charles Dickens
72 Dracula - Bram Stoker
74 Notes From A Small Island - Bill Bryson
75 Ulysses - James Joyce
81 A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens
I've read about half of Lord of the Rings but couldn't finish it (the movies were better imo!), also read a little bit of Watership Down but couldn't finish it (too dull to bother continuing.) I've read Macbeth, so I've made a small dent in the completed works f Shakespeare. And I've Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, so I guess I've sort of read Pride and Prejudice. :pac: On top of the ones I own but haven't read yet, I really want to read Midnight's Children and Life of Pi.
Someday, I'll get around to everything...0 -

Not very many. I'll read them some time.0 -
36 I think. Don't know what the list is of, but I'm glad to see A Prayer For Owen Meany in there - one of my all-time favourites, along with the Dickens books. Some of these books I would never want to read again, Ulysses, Dune (awful), Lord of the Rings.
I've read most of them, around 80 or so, but there's some awful crap on that list, and yet you pull out these three classics for criticism?
I mean, The Faraway Tree, Anne of Green Gables and Life of Pi are just so enlightening and profound in comparison, aren't they? :rolleyes:0 -

A couple books in the list I nearly completed (Lolita, To Kill a Mockingbird, etc), and probably will do, and others I've read a portion of (Lord of the Rings, Wuthering Heights, etc).
Low on the scale here, but over the supposed 6.0 -
I am sure ye are fed up with full lists at this time, so I will tally up and make it dead on 40 with a few on the bedside locker to be read yet-tis snowy, so might happen any day soon now.0

41/100 - not bad! Hopefully get a few more of the older ones read now that I am getting an e-book reader and can download them for free.0 -
Since I last posted re my total of 40 read, I had a look at the list again and decided to look at the original BBC vote list in 2003 which is somewhat different to this one. If you go through the complete list that Joe Public voted for there are 15 Terry Prachett and 10 Roald Dahl!!!!
I now listen and look at various "Book Club" suggestions for ideas on reading material, but I will still go through some more of "The to-do list" from this thread.
Happy New Year reading;)0 -
I've read 75/100, thanks to having a local library consisting solely of Enid Blyton and the Penguin Classics Collection while I was growing up. Through no choice of my own I'd read all of Austen and the Brontés and most of Dickens before I got to secondary school.
I don't get why the complete works of Shakespeare is listed and then Hamlet gets a separate entry. '
