Hi all , live in Baltinglass west Wicklow, work in Carlow town.
Went home from work last night expecting a few cm to fall over night ,seen as how im at the foot of the Wicklow mountains. Thought id be in a good position for some snow. Got home and already felt warmer it was 1.c around 7pm last night ,it was tawing. Started to snow around 12.30am ,light but it was sticking! Got up this morning ( very excited) to be disappointed by a miserly 1.5cm on the ground. Now in work and the sun is out , the thaw is on ,drip drip drip, and it feels kinda balmy compared to the last few days. So Im no expert but I feel that carlow west wicklow has got what it gona get in regard of snow (maybe another 1 cm tonight if this cold air does arrive) . but from experience I think its over in this part of the country. I wish I was wrong.!

ok anyone listening into dublin airport for weather im hearing all the planes are getting hit by lightning very scary
The planes are designed to take it, they often get struck and it rarely does more than make the pilots jump a bit :)

Once again, I think we can all safely assume that when discussing 'thunder' that it is not a localised event.

If its heard in Glasnevin / D2 / O'Connel street or wherever, it will most likely be heard everywhere else within the county!

Its not like the thunder happened in your living room / office / jax or whatever!
Don't be silly, of course the thunder is going to originate from one point. A single strike of lightning between clouds and/or the ground causes it sure. Furthermore, in snowy and wintery conditions the sound of thunder is often muted.

In any case, those reports serve to help pinpoint where it happened. The clouds with lightning often give the heaviest showers.

Well could just say Dublin, but keeping it localised is a better standard to keep. Instead of thunder in Dublin, followed by a report of snow/sleet/rain in Dublin.

Just got a combination of graupel & sleet in North County Dublin/East Meath border. The temp is dropping rapidly but nothing is sticking as of yet. Ground temps must still be low as some of the drains are blocked so everything that has melted is sitting ontop of the ground. If we don't get any more snow but a freeze then I'll be going ice skating.

Winds are high and seagulls are travelling inland again.

Precip is interspersed with sunny spells. We've had thunder & lightening on/off since about 5am.

Gotta agree with cashel. Living in tinahely and there is a major thaw. To be honest I'll be happy to see the back of the snow.

Conversation spiraled into an aviation-like thread last night when things got quiet weather-wise!

Then weather spotters started slagging off plane spotters and things got messy, so be careful what you say ;):D

The amount of snow in Knocklyon this morning:

    ngauf8.jpg

It's been a steady mix of heavy snow / sleet / hail for the past hour. Just heard a load of snow fall off the roof there but not sure if it was because of the weight or raising temperatures.

The bin men are still out though, hardy men
