Friends in the Gardai

    Does anyone here have friends who are gardai and if so do they act differently around them. The reason im asking is because I was out a few weeks ago with a friend who isnt in the gardai, but who works for them. A few of them joined us later on in the night and they seemed like nice people but I felt I couldnt relax in their presence. It was like I was being monitored all night.

    It's in your head dude. Gardai are people too believe it or not. They watch the same shíte on TV, eat the same shíte food, go out and get drunk and just want to have the craic aswell

    I know a few gardai. Many of them see it as just another job. When they clock out, unless you are doing something particuraly harmful to other people, will turn a blind eye to petty misdimeanours.

    Yes, I've friends in AGS.. And I train with the Garda Judo team - do I act differently around them? - Yes, I try beat them up, and they me!.

    In reality no I don't act differently around them. I'm in the army, and get a whole load of regular questions fired (pun!!) at me re. the job from civilians..

    So I treat my garda friends like regular mates.

    In fairness when hanging around with your Garda mates you shouldn't act in a way which would put them in an uncomfortable position.

    I have a good few friends cops. Most of them are fairly high up in the ranks now. There all dead sound. Often drove home with them and me after 20 pints..;)

    I have both friends and family in the Gardaí. My cousin I would definitely act differently around not just because she's in law enforcement and she has a stick up her arse, but because she tells her mother everything.

    My mate in the gards I treat normally though, he's just as fond of a weekender bender as the rest of us are.
