Civilianisation ( or the lack of it in AGS ) is an excellent example - in the 1970's as part of a commitment to freeing up officers for Police work The Met brought in private contractors to provide security at New Scotland Yard - walk past Harcourt Square or the Garda Depot and security is still provided by Gardai .
The Met would be light years ahead of AGS in this regard , they even have civilian custody/detention officers who do much of the looking after prisoners.

SAPOL has announced a UK Police Officer Recruiting Campaign for its 2012 intakes. Potential applicants are invited to refer to the www.achievemore.com.au website as of Monday 14 March 2011 for information on this campaign. Application closing date will be strictly by close of business Friday 8 April 2011. Any incomplete applications or applications received after this date will not be considered.
Note after a few years as a constable you can apply to other state forces for transfers as long as you complete the transition course.

Thanks Zambia, your a legend, I hope they accept Irish applicants!

SAPOL are not accepting applicants from the Republic of Ireland unfortunately!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭FGR

Hard luck to those who had interest in joining SAPOL. I'm surprised they've only exclusively gone for UK applicants. Was it WAPOL that originally sought Irish applicants or did SAPOL do the same in previous campaigns?

I hate to resurrect an old thread but the rumour machine is in action again! I just wonder has anyone heard about Wapol International Recruitment? They have changed the website. Where it previously said Wapol have no plans to recruit internationally, it now says "DETAILS WILL BE PROVIDED ON THIS SITE WHEN WE ANNOUNCE OUR NEXT INTERNATIONAL RECRUITMENT OPPORTUNITY"

Perhaps Im reading too much in to it!

Shame Calgary/Edmonton in Canada aren't considering the same..!

if you fit the criteria required for joining as a foreign candidate (ie serving police officer) the police department sponsor you and you get p/r status

Really? I was looking at the site but that was not obvious, il get on to it immediately. I think the closing date is today, or very soon

i dont know the exact criteria but the main crux of it is having 2 years operational police experience minimum..........

also, the police forces usually run separate recruitment campaigns for general entrance (to members of the ozzy public) and foreign officer entrance (for overseas officers, mainly Kiwis and Brits)

however, nothing to stop a member of the PSNI or Garda putting their name forward. australians are notoriously reluctant to join the ranks of the their local police forces and retention is as big a problem as recruitment

funny, theres guys in ireland (including me) that would do anything to get a job in policing and in many countries its seen as a bum job

wouldnt believe too much in that

their visas wouldnt cover them to work anywhere else except for the police force

so id imagine their visas were cancelled and they were escorted to the airport by the federal police and shipped home

maybe thats why australian police forces never actively target and recruit gardai...........

Possibly one person did it or the whole rumour is groundless

Not so the ENS 121/856 has no employer restrictions

    Have a read
    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/ens/obligations.htm

Nope the employer does not have that option they gave you PR.

If the package was a 457 visa like the Ventura bus service is offering above well then yes you are tied to the employer. But that is not a permanent resident Visa.
maybe thats why australian police forces never actively target and recruit gardai...........

I reckon its never been explored by them
