Politics, as with anything else, should be allowed to be discussed here. But don't take it seriously and accept that most people wont be discussing it seriously and most will be trolling.

    2. Your not going to last here long if you try to show them up and/or try make a fool of them.

I don't think people should be stopped from discussing it here, but I don't think it should become a political forum either. Sub-forum ftw!

Politics as discussed on the politics forum is like attending a student union debate, all over-eager tweedy types raising points of information and lambasting each other with oh-so-original witty remarks poached from Withnail and I or Oscar Wilde.

Politics as discussed on AH is like politics discussed in a pub, most likely Moe's Bar. Some boardsies get riled up, some haven't a clue but join the chat anyway, some actually contribute to proper debate. Leave it alone, it's entertaining.

Yes, a lot of the time you get humorous remarks and jokes about politics here in AH and it might not be appropriate for those posters to post the same thing in the politics forum.

AH is a relaxed place to discuss politics but it also puts some political issues into layman's terms.

People obviously feel passionately enough about it to start a thread.

Politics should be allowed in AH. Too many people in this country are all too happy to ignore politics and focus all their attention on ****e like x-factor. Ignorance is a major reason as to why we are all in this mess. The more political debate the better, even if it just means that one more person has a clue as to what is going on.

Eh.. hang on a second. You are the poster who started a thread about going into Tesco & feeling ripped off because you paid €4 for 2 donuts and you're telling other posters to get a life?

    That's rich.

Football doesn't influence food prices, TV licences, should we wear a poppy, should drugs be legal, should smoking be banned, our health system, those leaving the country, justice or lack of it and on and on and on...

Politics does! Its that simple and the extending arms of politics reach into all the above subjects and many more.

    Football doesn't - certainly not on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

I don't think the poor fella's been able to look at a cooker in the same way ever since.
Or his football team for that matter, but that's for totally different reasons...

Anyway, before i get a hiding, i don't mind politics being discussed, but when there are 8 or 9 threads about it on the 1st page it's kinda annoying. So politics should be discussed, but in moderation :D

It's ok to discuss it here but not to the extreme of the politics forum. I think on here it can be more relaxed and you are not expected to dig out proof of p s pay scale or graphs. It's all everyone talks about at the moment and AH is more forgiving if we dont know what the hell we are talking about.

Speaking as a poster in AH and nothing else.

Politics surrounds us, AH is the real pulse of our nation. we are in scary times in our countries history, we should be able to talk about it. Who knows, us talking about it may make a difference, because be sure they are watching.

    Mega threads are naff.

I think mega threads are handy when the forum is been over run with the same subject over and over.

I come to AH to get away from the doom and gloom that is my life, i don't want to be having to go through pages of threads just to find a non political one.
I obviously expect it to be talked about, like any big event is talked about, but personally i'd like it to be limited. How that'd happen though i don't know..

There's gonna be dozens of Budget related threads started though, a Megathread specifically to throw them into is surely needed.

Could even be started earlier and just call it:

    BUDGET 2010 (The Speculation Megathread)

Then just change the title when it goes 'Live & In Running' ..

As for the rest of the time, personally - I think there is far to many Politics threads in AH.

If the topic of them is not very current and / or something that is most likely being discussed in many pubs that day it's posted or has an AH slant, then imo, I think they should be moved to Politics.

Think of the poor souls that have to read every word of a mega thread :P
