what would you do? how much would u like give to ur parents/bros/sisters, how much would u give to your closest friends?

first thing i would do is have a big party in my estate, everyone invited all my friends(like 600 and friends of friends) people in estate and just like get absolutely trollyed

i would buy a massive gaff on the top of KH beside bono
give my parents 5 million, my sister 2-5 million and then keep rest for my self. i would leave 2 million to build up interest and then would sort out my friends buy them stuff.

I was bored earlier so way on myhome.ie looking at expensive houses, that's the 1st thing i'd do-buy my own house. Then make sure my family were all provided for.

Mind you,i did see a house in Dublin 4 for 14million!! Even if i did win a lotto like that, still couldn't afford it.

Well I'd tell no one. Take the entire family on a holiday. Send the grandparents on a cruise. Make sure they're sorted. Get the parents a house, few cars, whatever. Put a few million in the bank for them. I'd pay college fees for everyone for as long as they wanted to stay in college. I'd buy a few houses near college, have them for me and friends.
    Major shopping spree.
    Go travelling.
Give a big chunk to the RAG charities of that year and to the councilling service.
    Buy my local pub.
    Buy a house in Paris.

I'd pay off all the mortgages in my family and my closest friends & allow my father to retire early with a cushy 'pension'.

Whether to give enough to my brother & sister (and their other halfs) so they could retire is another thing. I think they like their jobs, especially the sister and knowing that they dont have worry about mortgages would put a pretty big spring in their step as it is.

Maybe get them all new cars of their choice, but nothing that would say "lotto winners here", in this day and age neighbours would plot kidnappings and ransoms for a quick payday!

Then I'd probably go travel the world for a couple o years. After that I'd buy a pub or something to keep me occupied.

Becoming a lotto winner and drinking myself to death is something I'd try to avoid. Drinking myself to death as it is, imagine what I would do with €18M in the wallet :pac:

/back to reality and the rain beating off the window

    Dreams.

Take a dump on my bosses desk on the morning after a good feed of Guinness and a spicy as hell jalfrezi, and wait for him to tell me I was sacked!

All while he was sat there starting at me with his gob wide opened!

    The prick.

I'd give everyone in work a hundred grand if they leave their jobs., then with the other 17 million, build an iconic building somewhere, fantastic design and architecture, then use it as a drug rehabilitation centre.

I wouldn't go shouting it to the world for safety reasons. But I would make sure family and friends are taken care of, go on some nice holidays.
I think I would keep working though.

Well... you have to think long term. Is 18 million minus friend+family millions enough to go around jetsetting forever? What if I've bought a house as well? 3.5% interest on 9-10mill is high enough but still!
Will I be horribly bored and feel useless and eventually depressed not having something constructive to work on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

    Serious answer.

1 Million plus house plus car for each parent.

Open up some sort of trust fund for half brother and sister, 500k each, cant access till 21 or completes college/uni.

1 million to Irish Cancer Society

Build my own home, nothing too crazy, 3 or 4 bedrooms, huge kitchen and entertainment room with all the gadgets, double garage.

Holiday flat/apartment close to a ski resort.

Couple of cars, again nothing crazy, maybe an SUV and a supermini.

About 7 or 8 k on bikes, a full carbon road bike, a full susser XC bike, another XC bike for mucking about on, and maybe a BMX.

Start own business. Record store, all your usual stuff, CDs and chart for the kids. Plus vinyl, rareities and hard to get, stage to promote local bands, instruments, etc.

    Thats about it for now.

    Then i wake up.

(have thought about this before :D)

Did you mean to say if we won something like 18 million?

    your getting there bud !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,163 ✭✭✭✭Liam Byrne

How much would you actually win ? €18,000,002.56 ?

It's about €17,000,000 more than I'd ever possibly need, so I'd have to give it a lot of thought.

I'd also be damn careful re the tax thresholds for gifts - AFAIK it's around €350,000 for family members - so anything I'd give the family members would have to be below that so that Lenihan didn't get his grubby hands on it......althought that has me wondering whether I could give a family of 5 €350,000 each....that might solve that problem.

So that's approx €8,000,000 accounted for......what I'd do with the remaining €10,000,000 would be a complete mystery.

Then I'd work for charity or an open-source project, as well as maybe setting up a home studio for €200,000 and "work" from home.

I always said that if I had won that €115,000,000 your one Dolores did, I'd give away €100m of it. And even that sounds selfish. What a sickening amount of money to give to one person.

I'd make out a five year plan and donate to god knows how many charities/causes/appeals and make sure first hand it was all put to good use. What an amazing job and feeling that would be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'd take care of my family, pay off all debts, then buy myself a house somewhere nice, build a first class training facility and start working towards the next Olympics full-time once I'd finished my degree. Go to the competitions abroad I wanted to, get the few things I'd dream about, have a second home in France or somewhere pretty and interesting and generally make the most of the luck.

Straight to Switzerland, plastic surgery, new identity and live out the rest of my days in anonymity... just to get away from it all...

That or go to Las Vegas: "18 million on black."

Just had a look at that, Jebus, you'd have to spend almost as much again redecorating.

I'd give 1mill to each of my siblings, 2 mill to the parents, that's 11mill left. Buy somewhere like this to live and use the remaining 7mill to decide what to do next.

We saw our ideal house in Portugal a few years ago - would be about 350K but it would need some doing up - so that would be on the list. Would hope that my daddy would move over with us (it has several out houses and one could be wheelchair adapted for mummy), would get mummy a full time carer so that my daddy could enjoy his old age. Would retire with my husband and enjoy being a full time mummy - would have 3 children in total if we were lucky.

Would get my mother in law access to the best cancer specialists in the world.

Would get my brother a nice house.

Would get me a mini-volvo and learn to drive (finally). Would get my husband whetever he wants though I know that we both would love a peaceful quiet life. Might go to Paris for a trip. My big extravagence wold be to interail around Europe with my family for a few months.

Would donate a lot of money to charities and would volenteer with some of them.

There are a lot of things that money can not buy - my son, my husband, my unborn baby - would love for all of us to be well and happy beyond everything.

€18million is really not a lot of money, I'd probably risk it in a high yield fund.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭Columbia

I'd pay to put my sister through college, and then match whatever salary she earns once she's out.

Pay off my parents' mortgage, buy them two holiday homes, one somewhere warm (for my mother), and one somewhere cold (for my father).

Pay for my old sports club to go train and maybe compete somewhere exotic for some length of time.

Stick about 5 million in various accounts and spend the rest of my life travelling in luxury on the interest.

Invest speculatively with another couple million.

A few million in change left over to buy stuff like chocolate muffins and maybe even an inflatable chair.

Hire a private jet, limo and maid.
    Couple of huge bouncers too.
Buy a ghost estate and pay a team of Swats to clear out the scumbag element by way of smoke bombing.
Buy the largest house on the hill and do it up like the Adam's Family.
Buy a tank controled by remote access to act as a burgular deterent.
Give monies to family on conditions that they:
    -Stop smoking
-Give themselves over to the Allied Athiest Alliance
-Complete a series of dares and challenges.

I'd buy a holiday home in Tokyo.
