do you get a voucher at the end of the week if you have the most posts thanked or what! a few lucky bags maybe

It's designed to freak out people who over-analyse things. Those who get particularly riled about it and whinge about thanks-whoring etc (and ironically how that's nerdy and obsessive) tend to have very few thanks themselves. This angers them. It might be remedied by the odd constructive post though.

The number of thanks you receive is equivilant to the number of wánks you have while pressing F5
