New upcoming series from A.M.C coming out early next year.
The series is described as a contemporary western that centers on the building of the Transcontinental Railroad.
I love western tv shows and trust the great A.M.C to pull this one off, really exicted about this. I must say A.M.C are going to be away ahead of H.B.O for shows soon if they are not already.

AMC has given the green light to Hell on Wheels, the network announced Wednesday.
Set after the Civil War, the series focuses on a Confederate soldier whose quest to avenge his wife's death at the hands of Union soldiers takes him west to work on building the first transcontinental railroad. The drama will explore what immigrants go through and problems faced by newly emancipated blacks, all against the backdrop of the railroad's greed and corruption.
Anson Mount stars as the Confederate soldier, Cullen Bohannan. The cast includes rapper Common Dominique McElligott, Colm Meaney, Ben Esler, Philip Burke and Eddie Spears.
The series was created and written by Tony and Joe Gayton, who will also executive-produce the series.
"We are thrilled to bring Hell on Wheels to series," Joel Stillerman, AMC's senior vice president of original programming, said in a statement. "This show has some incredibly original twists and turns and a contemporary sensibility that we think will bring a very broad audience to our newest drama series."

AMC announced today that their newest original series, “Hell on Wheels” begins production on Monday, May 16 in Calgary. “Hell on Wheels” is a contemporary western that centers on former confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon, portrayed by Anson Mount, whose quest for vengeance has led him to the Union Pacific Railroad’s westward construction of the first Transcontinental Railroad. Developed by Endemol USA and produced by Entertainment One (eOne) and Nomadic Pictures, “Hell on Wheels” is created, written and executive produced by Joe and Tony Gayton (Faster, Uncommon Valor, Salton Sea, Bulletproof). The series is slated to premiere in fourth quarter of 2011.

“Hell on Wheels” tells the epic story of post-Civil War America, focusing on a Confederate soldier (Mount) who sets out to exact revenge on the Union soldiers who have killed his wife. His journey takes him west to ‘Hell on Wheels,’ a dangerous, raucous, lawless melting pot of a town that travels with and services the construction of the first transcontinental railroad, an engineering feat unprecedented for its time. The series documents the railroad’s incredible feat of engineering and construction as well as the institutionalized greed and corruption, the immigrant experience, and the plight of the newly emancipated African-Americans during reconstruction. Over time, “Hell on Wheels” chronicles this potent turning point in our nation’s history, and how uncivilized the business of civilization can be.

Tom Noonan is joining the cast of AMC's upcoming new show 'Hell on Wheels'. He is going to play the local reverend Nathaniel Cole. Noonan is likely best known for his continuing guest role as Victor Huntley on DirecTV's 'Damages'. He also recently appeared on 'Louie' and 'The Cape'. Whether he sticks around remains to be seen.

It's probably based on the Westbound (Union Pacific) line which was mainly built by African Americans and Irish. The Chinese worked on the Eastbound line through the Sierra Nevada.

    Don't forget...premiere tonight!

Exactly. It would have been very difficult for the Chinese to even get to the Eastern US in great numbers before the railroad was built. The whole reason the Chinese were so important is that there weren't enough laborers on the West coast, but the East coast had no shortage of labor. With the whole civil war reconstruction angle it wouldn't make sense for them to focus on the West.

yeah having watched the show, and seeing that it was going from the east it obvious why there no chinese seen but mentioned in the show, the article was very unfair.

Promising start - the usual AMC production values and some interesting characters. Definitely good enough to keep me watching.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭KeanSeenan

Quite liked this, it was a bit of a stretch for the main guy to guess that his first victim(that we've seen) would just happen to atone for his sins. That and Meaney's monologue at the end were the only things that didn't sit well with me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,973 ✭✭✭Cherry_Cola

^ Completely agree. Aside from those though, I really enjoyed it. It's even got plausible Irish accents :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,092 ✭✭✭✭eh i dunno

When does this be on folks? Is it worth watching?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,973 ✭✭✭Cherry_Cola

It airs every Sunday night in the US so should be available tomorrow morning. I would definitely say it's worth a watch, plenty of action in the first episode anyway and it has great potential.

Fantastic second episode. Everything is moving at a nice pace and the Swede character is badass!

Loved episode two. I'm not too sure about the Indians though, they spoke really good english, I'm a little suspicious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭KerranJast

It's damn good. I'm loving Bohannon's complete lack of airs and graces. "You ain't whore nor squaw". Smooth bastard. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭KeanSeenan

Ok episode. Thought them throwing the Swede cleaning that, eh, enthusiastically sorta came outta nowhere.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 12,333 ✭✭✭✭JONJO THE MISER

Just watched ep 2 there, will stay up to see episode 5 tonight.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 12,333 ✭✭✭✭JONJO THE MISER

Anyone watch last nights episode yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,973 ✭✭✭Cherry_Cola

Yeah I watched it alright, was only ok I thought. It's interesting now though with the Irish brothers and how their differences are becoming more apparent. I definitely think the long haired one will meet a nasty end because of his brother.

The Swede is just a badass. Great character.

I'm loving it. Everytime Bohannon does something good like pull people out of explosions he turns around and is a racist SOB. I don't know whether I should laugh at him or pity him or cheer him. :D

Renewed for a second season, i'm a bit surprised tbh....based on ratings and lack of buzz:
