All I was stating was my opinion, that to me it seemed that way. Don't see how that's condescending or dismissive, it's simply an opinion that differs to yours.

Well, stating that it is the kind of thing one "grows out of" is certainly a little condescending. Do you not think you'd feel a little condescended to if someone you disagreed with implied you just needed to grow up a bit more? Obviously you're entitled to be as condescending as you like, I point it out more to see if you would agree that was your attitude than anything.
    What's so rewarding about it?

Perhaps rewarding is the wrong word. I suppose it would be more a catharsis than anything else, during the reading. All our lives we have a Judeo-Christian influenced morality drilled into us. We're constantly told to be nice, share, forgive, bite your tongue, roll over, bow your head, submit etc. While I was reading the Satanic Bible I had this wonderful sense of catharsis; "No!" me thinks to myself, "maybe I don't feel like being nice today, or sharing or forgiving or biting my tongue. That guy was being an asshole/idiot/demanding fool and I am going to treat him exactly like he deserves." Most people today, especially the religious, have a sort of faux-pious attitude to life. They claim we should all share and forgive and they talk about all of these things, and yet conduct themselves with such deluded hypocrisy, it just disgusts me.

Few things disappoint me more in a person than submissiveness and intellectual dishonesty. It is extremely satisfying for me to read about an entire philosophy themed around keeping your head high and telling the world to go fuck itself when it doesn't meet your standards. And unlike more "pious" individuals, a Satanist has none of this pretentious moralising.

amazes me how many comment without paying the 13.99 for the book ... its barely 300 pages :p

(edit: Bible of Satan by anton ... not Atles Shrugged which is, by way of English lit an almost impossible read - though there is nothing inherent ly "wrong" about the philosophy).

    Ah, it's a metaphor then? :)

Probably best if YOU dont start with the metaphors mate, Christianity has been shuffling key biblical points in to that defensive position for a little while now. ;)

    5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
Do two Satanist ever get it together? How would one giving a mating signal to the other not constitute a sexual advance?

I think it basically means don't rape people and don't be a creepy asshole.

I believe appropriate mating signals include flicking of the hair, fluttering of the eyes, presenting the rearend and saying things like "oh boy am I tired, we better get to bed". You know, the usual. There is also a secret Satanic mating call that is taught to all new initiates. It is designed to simultaneously arouse your partner while terrifying rivals. It goes kind of "Awwah! Ouuoooah!" or was it more "Eeeoooh! Waaaaoooh!"

The magus is gonna be so annoyed when I ask him to show me again.

"When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask them to stop. If they do not stop, destroy them."

Now think of the pope in the UK, cruising along in his popemobile, slightly faster than walking speed, and those eight or nine heavies trotting along beside, giving menacing looks, surrounding him. Don't mess with the ubermenche.
Are they going to say please stop if you insist on bothering the pope? I don't think so.

Donald Duck doesnt quite fit the bill (:D) as a logo for the ubermenche.
Can you imagine the SS military cap with a duck instead of skull and crossbones?
Or the pirates "jolly roger" flag or the hell's angel sleeveless denim jacket?
Remember the pirates and the bikers had/have their own code of conduct based on mutual respect and a rejection of rules imposed by hypocrites.

I think this particular type of satanism could just as well have been called skull and crossbones ism or kickass ism, but then, the name's not that important anyway.

Would that be a metaphorical stick, or one of those christian rods of correction that the bible goes on about in such glowing terms? :)

Fine, so presumably none of those things constitutes 'sexual advances'.

    So what constitutes 'sexual advances'?

Word of advice - invite him into your home before asking him. On no account ask him while you are in his home.

How open does the territory have to be? Is a forest open territory? How about a basketball court?

Er, do you think I wrote the book? I can explain elements of their philosophy as I understand them from their books, but your interpretation is as good as mine
(haha no it's probably not but you know what I mean)

So its essentially the same as Pastafarianism, only without the humour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,371 ✭✭✭✭Zillah

Er, no one responded to your question...

    Which question?

These questions. No one answered them, then you came back saying "oh so its like pastafarianism". I just thought that was weird.

    Grand.

Do you actually disagree with that statement?*

No. Pastafarianism is a pseudo-religion that satirises theistic beliefs and the arguments used in favour of those theistic beleifs. Satanism is a philosophy and organisation that advocates socially responsible selfishness and personal independence, while asserting a materialistic view of the universe.

They are, in fact, absolutely nothing like each other whatsoever.

You may find that depends on the location of the observer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,371 ✭✭✭✭Zillah

I would not find that, no.

Both fictional belief systems. Pastafarianism is just a laugh; satanism (as described in this thread) is actually for taking seriously.

As opposed to the non-existent non-fictional variety?

    Yup.

Fictional in the sense that no-one is contesting they are participating in a fiction.

Would you feel that Christians would contest they are following a work of fiction?
