Anyone got any official links or info on T&C's for this offer? Currently out of contract with by DSL supplier and not overly happy with their product so as I'm going to move at some stage and don't have a PS3 this would be ideal.

    Snap.

That sounds more realistic Yoshytoshy, which is why I asked to see the offer in black and white...spending ~600 quid on BB for a year and receiving a 250 quid freebie sounds too good to be true especially from eircom and HN who are both likely to be feeling the pinch just now (I know eircom definitely are) in terms of profit.
Going to pop into local HN later and see what's up...

[edit] Thanks for that waster81...good offer if that's all there is to it...

afaik it's either an 18 or 24 month contract
that said their customer service is excellent, well worth paying the bit more than other providers for

But you dont need customer service with others cos the actual service isnt **** :P

Good bargain if your shoppin for Broadband, but TBH if its only BB you want, prob cheaper just buyin it separate

Dont forget this whole Next Generation BB thing that they're doing. They've started to impose the usage limits! We're on an 8MB("Up to" aka 4.4MB) line and we're now capped at 30GB/Month combined! Moving away soon. Only suitable for light users, we've never gone lower than 50GB in a month:rolleyes:

I think usually within ten days, you still get the PS3 once you sign up by friday, dont have the broadband activated by friday

    Cool. Sign me up. :D

Eircom 3mb - €19.99 for first three months, then €29.99. That's a big saving on my current Vodafone bundle, if I drop the phone which we haven't used in ages. ;)

I have the up to 3MB + Calls package with vodafone for 35e a month and would love to leave them as contention sucks at peak times, I cannot get over 2MB as I am in the sticks so dont think I would get an improvement with eircom, Eircom is 20 a month more expensive for the same thing or is there a new price list from Eircom for this deal ?

Is it just the console or are there games or anything with it? How much does the console retail for?

Eircom is a lot more expensive for a similar call/BB bundle. €50odd I think.

Seen this yesterday and was tempted , rang utv (my isp) this morning to check was I out of contract ,I am but the girl told me that utv will be dropping my monthly charge from €49 per month (7meg broadband ,line rental and evening and weekend calls ) to €38.99 when next generation broadband is available in my area (due before Christmas). Equivlant package with eircom will be €62

Hmmmm, if only BB providers in this country didn't suck - Eircom censor your traffic (remember they do the illegal 3 strikes, as in illegal to do since they have to examine your traffic using DPI), UPC are just rubbish and can't even provide a simple 10 meg line to parliament street in Dublin city (some magic problem outside of the residance that after 2 mts is still not fixed) - I'm cancelling UPC this week (who needs TV when you have no web!!) - will pop over and see what the low down is on this deal... maybe they do it with someone other that Eircom...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Although Eircom advertise 3mb Broadband for 29.99 don't forget you are forced to pay line rental of 25 on top of that. The 3mb calls bundle is nearly 60 Euro by the time VAT has been added to the bill.

Vodafone have the same package for 40 euro after tax. So you save around 20 euro a month. If you look at the length on the min contract with Eircom for this deal is 18 months. that means you will spend around 330 more on your Eircom line over the 18 months.

You could just keep your 300 euro and go to a shop and get a much a better PS3 bundle with free games as well.

I was just looking into that now, I couldn't find any clear info on the line rental but the €29.99 did seem too good to be true. :o

    I'm out.

    Here's a thought.
Get the bundle (with the FREE PS3), download anything and everything you can, get the 3 strikes from Eircom and they cancel your b/band.
What then happens to the 18 month contract with them & the PS3 you already have?

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a PS3?

Im sure they would still charge you for the length of the contract but just block your internet access.

How could they charge you if they're not supplying the b/band to you?

I think that 3 strikes rule is a bunch of b*lls to be honest. Never heard of anyone who got a strike.

When I asked today, the sales guy in Harvey Norman said 12 months.

Looking into this in; Eircom's 7mb package (50GB download limit) @ 40 euros a month plus line rental 23.60 in comparison with Vodafone 8mb package (40GB download limit) with 20 euros off for ordering online.

    Eircom cost: 744 euros
    Vodafone cost: 460 euros

    Difference of 284 euros.

Was really interested at first but doesn't seem to be such a good deal.

Because you signed a contract to say you would agree to pay them for a min of 18 months and not use the internet to break the law.

Eircom don't enforce the download limit on the 7mb package.

I saw this thread and I was thinking of switching my Broadband and landline from Eircom to Vodafone. I currently pay Eircom about €65/month for landline with unlimited Irish phone calls (talk anytime) and 7MB BB with up to 50GB download allowance per month. I see with Vodafone it's €45/month for up to 8MB (I'll never see 7 or 8MB since I live in the sticks) and a 40GB/month cap. That's a savings of €20/month or €240/year (about the price of a PS3) not too shabby of a savings, but I am loosing 10GB/month on my cap. I could opt for Vodafone's €52/month deal which gives me a cap of 120GB/month, more than I shall ever need. Even with this, I'm still saving €13/month or €156/year. I average about 40GB/month, but I could have the odd month where I might go a bit over, and I believe Eircom doesn't charge if you exceed your limit, at least not yet. So the question is, does Vodafone enforce the cap? If they do, according to their T&Cs, usage in excess will be charged at 2c (VAT Inc.) per megabyte, so if you have a bad month, it could get expensive and maybe I'd be better off with Vodafone's €52/month deal which gives me a cap of 120GB/month, still a savings over my existing Eircom bundle.

40GB a month! Are you guys like downloading the entire interweb or something? Lets assume that you (like many others) are GULP, illegally downloading films and music! (ISP's must surely realise thats the only thing that people download, even if Eircom has blocked The Pirate Bay)
Now, the average film torrent is 700mb and the average music torrent is 70mb. Are you seriously gonna watch, say even 20 movies a month let alone 50?
    Assuming

ah bless. you're forgetting TV downloads. i'm on 10GB/month with o2 mobile bb (it's all that's available in my area) and the most i can download at is ~30kbps  and i even have to limit myself. imagine me on 3/7MB bb. :D

i'd be interested in this offer if only there was a harvey norman near me and eircom could give me bb in my area :(
