Anyone know anywhere in Dublin City Center that sells these stands for the wheel? going to invest in one i think to get the proper feel for the game, all the reviews recommend it.

Also im confused on the wheel front slightly, is there a Logitech Driving Force GT and then a Logitech Driving Force G25??? Which is better etc and price?

The driving force is the cheapest, then G25 then G27, im not to sure if the G25 is still in production.
Check out the Fanatec stuff too, fine gear.

Isn't it hard to use those steering wheels etc when sitting on a couch?

I wouldn't mind investing in one either. Any recommendations? And preferably one that I could pick up in HMV or Game in Dundrum ahead of getting the game? :)

I will be using it on a PS3.

Theres plenty of stand for users who wish to play from couch,i think fanatec have one , should be on link above.

Anyways im playing away here on the pc version :)

First off the game is a mess initially with utterly weird wheel settings.
Initially i was like wtf is this all about?
First my G25 wouldnt work, then i plugged into a different usb slot and the game recognised it.
On to the track in expert settings all aids off the wheel was a disaster but after a lot of messing about im happy enough with it.
Im not getting any steering lag but shifting lag is so annoying,i think its more sound lag but cant be sure.
Im still struggling with a happy feeling in the pedals, need to mess with them more.
Ive tried to lock the wheels under braking but cant but you can easily outbrake yourself and simpy miss the corner.
I had a race at Montreal against the hardest AI on expert settings, qualified 6th @ 1:18 -- the top 8 cars were in the 1:18s.
Onto the race i had to be so much more careful than my qualifying laps, the car felt more of a handfull in the race possibly because of fuel?
I lost some places early on, made my pitstop which looks great btw, got back up to a decent pace and got up to 9th place and for me atleast it was a battle against the Ai in the race.
Eventually i spun out and was back to 20 th place where i stayed till the end.
Overall once i kept in mind that its not iracing etc i had a blast.
Another annoyance is the way the engine note seems to shoot to max revs instantly after it gets to about 50% rev, its as if theres no sound effect for anything in between.
Because of the shifting lag i cant be as precise as i would like but maybe they will address this with a patch.
Anyone frustrated by it initially stick with tweaking the controls options, the difference can be massive and once you hit a decent sweet spot the game comes alive.
Framerate could be better but overall it looks great, weirdly im getting exactly the same fps in time trial as back of the grid in a race.

Strangely this game reminds me of my GP3 days and even F1 challenge from isi.
Its no sim in terms of acceleration and braking physics [ie you cant lock the brakes and at times you can simply slam the gas to the floor even with all aids off] but everything else feels impressive enough.
You will not make corners when your really pushing it unless you are on the perfect line and exercise real caution.
Also you have to hit your apexes to be fast, you gotta be smooth to be fast too im finding.
Early days yet but its good fun so far.

It doesn't look too far off,
Once they turn on the track side objects it should look as good as the game :D

The PC version has the best graphics if you have the hardware, followed my 360 then PS3, thats official, there are a few comparison articles on the net confirming this.

I went into HMV last night but they didn't have it on the shelves yet, surprisingly enough I guess seeing it's not officially out until, erm, now :)

Anyway I'm going to try and pick up a copy for the PS3 after work. Would love one of those steering wheels to use with it too but I think I will test out the game with the normal controllers and make sure I like it before forking out for a steering wheel and pedals.

Preordered on Amazon yesterday, going to probably be a week before I get it. :(

A few people said that that the boxed version for the PC might only be available via preorder and after that its digital download only? Seems like a strange thing to do so I dont know if theres any truth in it.

Either way will have it soon hopefully and have my G27 all ready to go! :D

I had pre-ordered from Amazon too but when I seen that they weren't going to dispatch it until yesterday (23rd) I knew there was no way I would have it today and with no Saturday post, it was going to be Monday at the earliest before I had it. So I cancelled my pre-order and am hoping I will be able to get a copy in the shops this evening.

So is it any good guys - I have forza and tbh, it doesnt look much different, other than the cars/track obviously - the collision detection seems to be miles off, from some of those vids you can just barrel it into a corner and everyone pushes wide without damaging your car ??

Im tempted but dont need another forza type driving game just yet

Just posted this over on the simracing forum, thought id post here too incase you lads may be interested.
Heres a couple of screenshots i took of a modified cockpit view im using now.
While the default isnt bad the sense of speed is not great so i found myself using the T cam which is great but i like to play from cockpit for extra realism. sense of speed is great with this modded view, the joys of pc games :)

There's also the 'proper' T-angle camera mod

I hate to nitpick but you have modded it so your sitting far too high! It was more realistic using the default view. The joys of a stock game without mods :)

Yes its higher but it increases the sense of speed massively.
Dont diss it until you have tried it.

Im messing about with other views also Ill try upload a vid later.

The joys of PC gaming , i can use the modded views while still keeping the defaults, you can just add as many cameras to the cycle as you wish :)

Besides, camera height is somewhat a red herring in racing sims.
None of us really know tbh, Massa has gone on record saying this is very similar to his view saying its about 6-8 inches lower than this vid and obviously closer too.

If hes correct then that modded view is very close to it.

Game looks great, only got the xbox a month or so ago so haven't done much racing on it. But no major complaints, my main problem at the moment is getting used to controls. Could configure it more like I'm used to on the PC or stick with the the default controls haven't decided yet

Just back into the apartment now, picked up a copy no bother in Game. It was actually cheaper than Amazon UK. They were quoting me €52 all in but in Game it was €49.99.

I was so tempted to buy the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel and pedals but decided against it. I guess I can always buy it or something equivalent later.

Just going to fire up the PS3 now. I will need the cable for the controller, it's been a while since it was used and it may get a pounding tonight :)

I got it in HMV for E44.99 and they gave me E9 voucher also for some reason!

I got it on PS3 and the graphics arent great in places. Looks like they were trying to do too much like on main straight in Melbourne it just looks jumpy and reflections on the car are very bad too but the racing is actually better then F1 2006. Its easier to avoid crashes and you dont have AI cars ploughing into your rear wing like before.

Started career on Expert in the HRT but turned on traction control as its impossible otherwise while using a controller. Have the pace to keep up and pass but one mistake and you probably wont make back the time. Every lap needs to be good.

On my very first lap of the race got a puncture...d'oh!

I dont see fuel management, but there is engine management as the engine tends to over heat.

It could be better but il still play it regardless. Waited this long for an F1 game afterall.
