A Mexican newspaper recently ran a short article on BALA:

    https://twitter.com/Colt_MX/status/224912966858973185/photo/1

    Ax8NJtdCIAEkBOm.jpg:large

    My attempt at a translation:

    Mexicans shine in e-Sports

Armando "BALA" Velázquez, a 26-year-old from Puebla, has been crowned champion of the fighting game King of Fighters in the previous two Major League Gaming (MLG) tournaments and took second place in Evolution 2012, which took place last week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the USA, at both MLG Columbus and MLG Anaheim, Velázquez competed with both local representatives and Japanese challengers, winning a total of $8,500 at both events. At Evolution, he battled players from the USA and Korea in the final stages, contesting the final with Korea's Kwang Noh Lee, alias "MadKOF".

Armando is not the only Mexican who has excelled at this game in tournament play. Other players such as Luis "Cha", who won the King of Fighters championship in 2002, and Raymond "Romance" Navarrete, who took third place at MLG Columbus earlier this year and reached the finals at Evolution, have also represented Mexico.

"El Colt", e-Sports commentator and e-Sports Mexico's head of fighting games, explained that Mexicans have excelled in this series since its beginning because of the years of experience of the players and because the gameplay has not changed significantly over the course of the series.

"In this country, we've played King of Fighters since '94. When someone plays against the Mexicans, they're against players who've been playing games with similar fundamentals for 15 years. Most players are in their twenties and have competed at a national level", he said.

From the arcade to the tournament

"BALA" claimed that easy access to the game in Mexico is another reason for the successes of his compatriots.

"On every street corner in Mexico, there's a King of Fighters cabinet. This is where every one of us began our journey. You meet other players, make friends, and start tournaments in different shops and arcades" said Velázquez.

His first tournament was in the MSI internet cafe in Puebla. Over time, he began to compete in various other tournaments and at SoCal Regionals 2011 he got in touch with his current sponsors IGL, who got him a place in MLG's world tournaments.

    It's actually a piss-take on darksydephil's "DSP custom sticks".

DSP was charging $200+ for SEs with Sanwas & badly-placed Mai art.
It was so horrendously amateur, I didn't even save the JPG.

Just back from london and I paid a vist to the Casino arcade...
    Well known for SF scene.
Well well not a sinner in the place..Managed to get a few games of third strike with some young dude who knew his sh1t big time.

Plenty of other Fighters like MVC2, Guilty gear,a few KOF's,And most iterations of SF.

Hung around the SF4 cabs(AE) and know one appeared except for some college students who hadn't a breeze.Thought I Might run into Farz playing third strike with a god save the queen t-shirt but twasn't to be.
He must be busy with his new life in Soho:D

Anyway lovely set up for sf4...3 pairs of linked cabs and one 2 player stand alone cab with a massive rear view projector screen.
Still don't know what cabs they are..look like viewlex but they aint...some sort of copy. All Seimitsu buttons and sticks on all of them but nice all the same.

They're the ones they had in Barneys, too.

Up to about a year ago I couldn't even find a picture of them!

from what i heard most of the london arcade scene is waiting for heart of gaming to open up, so not much interest in casino atm. Also if you were there on tuesday its possible that nobody was there due to everybody being in gamerbase for wso.

Just presumed it was 2012..but unsure now you say it.!!!
Only played 2 games..a zangief and ryu.My main Ken,has very subtle changes in 2012.
I'd imagine it was..as it was casino arcade that first had first evil ryu and akuma unlocked so they seem to be on the ball.

The leisureplex in Tallaght had lots of those cabs. X-Men vs Street Fighter was on one.

That last white cab in your previous post was the one Atari Expo got for SF III, that they quickly put an Alpha 2 board in.
