The Irish Secret Service

€1 million of taxpayers money has been put aside this year to fund the Irish Secret Service, yet no-one seems to really know what they do or who they are.

A search on Google turns up more questions than it does answers, except that it's budget is administered by the Department of Finance and that in various years has not always been fully spent.

So why the big mystery... everyone knows who runs the CIA & MI5 - both of these even have websites where you can find out more information, even information on their careers application process, but there is zilch on the web about the ISS (Irish Secret Service).

So what are they up to? Is there an "M" type figure developing hurley sticks that fire lazer beams? Do we have an Irish James Bond, a Jimmy O'Bond, perhaps? Or is it just an elaborate way to claim unvouched expenses, set up by Ivor Calley?

    The plot thickens...

I believe our intelligence service is comprised of two organisations. The special branch C3 in the gardai and a unit of the defense forces called military intelligence G2 branch.
There is also a special forces unit, the army ranger wing.

I could do it for half the price. Give me five hundred thousand and I'll set up an intelligence service nobody can find.

From what I know G2 deal a lot with corporate espionage and keep government stuff safe... they also keep tabs on the likes of IRA activity and cooperate with foreign services. I imagine when the queen comes over this year they'll be quite busy...

sorry for reviving this but just found it. anyway found some quotes that give no answers :)
I didn't know we had a secret service at all, they must be good
Decades of Dáil questions but no real answers:

    1969
"The nature of this service is such that, even if I had this information, it would not be in the public interest to give it."
CJ Haughey responds to a question by Gerry L'Estrange.
    1986
"The nature of secret service payments is such that to subject them to Dáil scrutiny would defeat the whole object of the expenditure."
John Bruton responds to query by Gay Mitchell.
    1998
"The purpose of the secret service is to obtain information necessary for the security of the State."
Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy responds to a question by Trevor Sargent.
    2002
"There is no secret service structure in this jurisdiction."
Justice Minister Michael McDowell responds to a query by Aengus Ó Snodaigh.

They're probably busy doing dirty work for foreign governments or private enterprises while we get raped by banks and insurance companies.

Our Rangers seem to be nothing more than guns for hire. They spend more time out of the country than in it,most likely doing dirty work for the US.I guess it's work experience.

Also in reply to the OP:

There are at least 6 known Islamic terrorist cells operating out of Ireland.
Now keeping an eye on their activites alone I suspect is only part of their job/role.
I'm assured that there are many other areas most don't realise.

I did say probably.Do you think it's beyond the realm of possibility?

Why do they dance to whatever tune the UN plays?Somalia,Liberia,East Timor?
A neutral country is sending Special Ops units all around the world to conflicts we have nothing to do with.
Who were they working for in Somalia? The yanks or the UN?

If I had the evidence to substantiate my suspicions I wouldn't have even posted in this forum.I'd be straight to Wikileaks.

Why is it when someone questions anything in the world today, out rolls the cretinous, one size fits all, 'conspiracy' accusation, as if it is totally outlandish to suggest that some people might be up to bad things.

Conspiracy, the catchcry of the TV worshipping, lemming like herd. There are no conspiracies right?Just doesn't happen.Yet most of this herd totally and unconditionally believe there is a god and eternal life.Do yo believe that?

    Conspiracy?
    Saturday March 01 2008

Three Afghan men remain in Garda custody in Co Kerry on suspicion of terrorist activity.
It follows a raid on a hostel in Tralee last night, during which suspected bomb parts were found.
A team of twenty Gardai swooped on the Atlas House apartments in Tralee at around half-six last night, acting on intelligence from the Special Branch.
The premises houses all-male asylum seekers.

Inside they discovered what's being described as possible bomb-making equipment including electrical devices and remote controls.
The devices are being examined by the Garda Technical Bureau this afternoon to see if they could make up viable explosives.
Three men in their 30s and 40s from Afghanistan were arrested and are being detained under anti terrorist legislation.

The Secret Service have their hands full, not just with the likes of the above and unless some else can prove different, they can take their ranting "Working for the USA" conspiracy crap and shove it up their arse!

How much explosive did they bust them with and what kind?Weapons?Any photos even?
Have you got names and pictures of all those convicted? How long did they all get and what exactly were they charged with and found guilty of?

Not very convincing sources. But hey if it was on the news.............and somebody tweeted about it, it must be true

LOL. This thread has me in stitches. You're all wrong. :D

Each year on the 2nd of February, the Taoiseach picks random secret service recruits all over Ireland. They never know they are chosen, this remains a secret. The Taoiseach puts the budget for them in a small account offshore.

You never know, it could be you! ...

So every paper you don't like (or disagrees with you I suspect) is a rag?

Please provide ANY evidence that the Irish Secret Service is EVEN POSSIBLY working for the USA!

We will await your substantiated post.

I suspect what we will get instead will be no indicators, no proof, more ranting, a modicum of trying to change the topic and more items that bear no relevance to the current base topic of the OP's thread.

...And yes, I DO take it personal for private reasons when idiotic unproved conspiracy crap is spouted about people that are working for the safety and betterment of our state.

Instead of carrying on with the usual rubbish, please with your next post, return with ANYTHING that shows the Irish secret service is working for the American government.
...Otherwise head over to the Conspiracy forum, there's loads more random, unproven stuff over there.

You post something in here - back it up or ship out for you will be called on it!

    We await your next post!
