Where do you get a HD PVR in Ireland? Is it off Hauppage.co.uk? Does it work on PAL 60 TVs? Is there 1 kind?

    www.hauppauge.com

follow the steps while ordering and you will be redirected to the irish/uk site

You have to have component connections on your TV for it to work.

There is only one type, although there are differnet firmwares. If you order from the official site you will get the latest

Tallon, you have a hauppage, right?

The very odd time. I always complain about it being hte interent, but when I watch it back it's fine.

Very rare though, make sure you have good quality gold plated conections all around

    Hm.

That could be a problem when recording a live street fighter match for money.

Every Saturday and Wednesday in XGC on Liffey Street.

Alternatively there's a tournament on the 7th in Space 54 but for testing it would probably be best if you could come up on one the casual days.

We'd really appreciate if you could bring it up so we could try it as we were thinking of buying one for the fighting game community.

Assuming you don't mean tomorrow, next saturday is the tournament and it could be a bit hectic and may not be the best time to try it. But I don't want to inconvienence you so whenever is best for you.

Yeah xbox will roll. Can you record anything? I would assume the best way for us to test would be to start recording and then use the Rock Band 2 input test. Would the input test on rock band show delay cuased the Hauppage? I think it would but if anyone has ideas.

I can try make it out to you for wednesday sure. I'm busy this weekend with ATWR.

I'll need a laptop or PC. I have a laptop and can record with it, but it probably won't play back the HD files cause it's a bit old.

Yeah, you can record anything with a component or composite connection.

Any of you lads live out Leixlip way?

I can bring out my laptop but intial playback isn't a massive concern as I would assume that the SD and HD recording would have the same effect.

It operates as an extra box right? So we could play through VGA and use the component to record. But that seems wrong as you would need a splitter.
So does it act as a buffer between the display and the console? If so then as long as we have a lagless splitter, then we could have lagless recording. The Hauppage doesn't take VGA though. Hmm, I'm probably on the wrong track altogether.

This is why I don't post here much :o

Yeah, a seperate box. The only inputs are Component / composite so as long as thats the connection we should be ok.

I have split to 2 tv's before but that was two component cables.

Do you guys still want me to come up with this?

Where is the XBLGC? And is there parking?

Does anyone have a component cable for the xbox?

It's on Liffey St. beside Pravda. I think there's parking up at smithfield? only a couple minutes walk.

I won't be there myself but I think others will be.

Dunno about the component cable but you could ask here.

Just (literally) ignore the people behind the counter, walk to the back of the place, head upstairs and find the people with the big ol joysticks :)

Looking at that thread it might be quiet today, hopefully sisko or animaX will be there.

We're in Space 54 by Smithfield Luas station this Saturday, and it's a ranking tournament. I'm sure someone will find time to experiment with you but the situation will not be ideal, I certainly wouldn't put up with people messing around with a laggy device on my TV with a couple of hundred euro on the line :D

Not to worry, I'll leave it until next weekend :)

150-ish ! There are other models of it too that would be cheaper i would imagine!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Bonavox

That's sterling, though. And there were rumours that Amazon are selling old models as well, so worth checking with them to make sure it's the latest model. Safest bet would be to buy from the official site, though. ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,565 ✭✭✭✭Tallon

Bonavox is right, thats the old model ones. and it's in sterling so it actually works out a bit (a good bit with the exchange rate) dearer

The official site is your only man.... With 1-3 days delivery and full support from an the official manufacturer I wouldn't even try find it cheaper tbh

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 45 GOSullivan27

Well the older models can't be THAT bad, can they ?? I don't have one so i don't really know much about them!

Yeah they are a bit, a couple of bugs in them and they can lag a bit while recording. It's still dearer to buy that one on amazon so it doesnt make sense.

I would love to see a place selling them for cheape though, I would like to see a lot more HD vids on youtube :)

Here is the mail you will receive if you order a PVR from their website. I didn't order on by the way!

"We have received your order for one unit of HD PVR at the cost of US$199 per unit. In addition to the cost of the unit there is a US$11 shipping fee plus VAT at the Irish rate of 21% (Total US$254.10). All our units ship with DHL from our warehouse in Ireland. Non-EU customers are also responsible for any additional customs and duties charges that may be incurred.

If the above is agreeable to you, please confirm via return e-mail, stating your confirmation.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further queries

    Kind Regards
    Henry Mills
    Hauppauge Digital Europe S.A.R.L. "

Yeah got that as well when i bought mine , just agree and you'll get you pvr within 3 days , the price you pay for it depends on the strength of the dollar.

edit : i saw now that you said you didnt order it.

    Yes, we can: http://camerakit.ie/proddetail.asp?prod=blackmagic-intensity-pro
    I have one myself.

EDIT: Damn boards not making it clear there was a fourth page to this thread

I've had my eye on that for a while. But how common is usb3.0 now? Has it become standard yet or is it only available on beastly setups?!

Also, to those who have one, could you post up a video sample?

Edit: I'm referring to the external device (intensity shuttle) not the graphics card

USB 3.0 isn't common in most computers. The Shuttle was the first USB 3.0 device to be produced (besides mass storage). It is possible to buy a PCIe card with some 3.0 ports if your computer has any available slots, though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,192 ✭✭✭norbert64

haha, boards.ie comes through again, thanx folks.

Like animaX though, I was actually after the external shuttle, which they thankfully do seem to stock too.

Looking at the PCIe cards available, they are fairly reasonable.
    http://www.memoryc.ie/products/type/USB_Products/USB_Cards/index.html

EDIT: Doing a bit more research, it looks like the USB3.0 thing might be quite awkward, even if with the PCIe cards. Also, the shuttle is still hamstrung by HDCP too. Don't know why they really bothered with the HDMI. Your HD camcorder/digital camera usually has a USB export option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭animaX

The shuttle seems to be getting bad reviews based on the comments in this video
