Just a quick question to see what peoples opinions are.
If the government hit the social budget again(the poorer people in society) should we as a nation stand up and be counted while these fat cats live the high life?????

I'd like to see people become more radicalised over this entire economic coup d'etat.

The average joe doesn't appear to realise how much of a bind this country is in.
or else if he does realise the extent, then he's too lazy to voice criticism / demonstrate.

If what was happening here (NAMA, tax increases, welfare cuts) was taking place in any other country, there would be anarchy.

Thank you that is the point I am trying to put across, but normally as soon as you mention anarchy people think of riots in the streets and social unrest

The people, just over 20% now support this government, in a peoples republic, does this make sense? also, the government leaves 3 constituencies underrepresented to prolong it's life

Yes of course we should revolt ... look at what happens in France
But the BIG question is WHO will cast the first stone .. typical Irish answer .. let the other lad throw it but not me

The government could cut social spending so that the Dole is a tenner a week and feck off if you dont like it
There would be calls to Joe Duffy and a feeling of general outrage but no action would be taken by the public

We as Irish citizens dont do riots we just sit back and take it time and time again thus we give the greenlight to those in power to rape the country nd its people

Tell you what ..10 mins after the next budget why dont we take over the GPO in Dublin and proclaim a NEW REPUBLIC whos with me citizens
It will have to after 6.30 cas of the traffic:P

The only thing worth revolting about is the amount of losers who have the silly idea that once FF are out of power everything will be okay !!!

I'd prefer to live in a society where I'm not at risk from flying stones. Maybe that's just me.

And where did you come across those people ? Or are you just seeing opinions that don't exist in order to make a point that might seem reasonable ?

No-one is suggesting that FF's damage can be undone overnight. So no-one with an ounce of cop-on is suggesting the above. The problems that FF have caused will - unfortunately - continue to plague us for some time.

However getting rid of a rotten and corrupt party would be an improvement.

It would help the discussion greatly if you actually commented on what you read here, rather than seeing everything through FF-coloured glasses.

So we should just let FF continue to ruin this country then?? Maybe another party will be the same but they should be given the chance. If they are as bad well then we get rid of them too.

Also the government will be using tax payers money later in the year to go to court to fight the case that Sinn Fein have brought and to uphold its decision not to hold the 3 by elections. They say they are not holding them as they want to concentrate on improving the economny but on the other hand they are quiet happy to use our money to prolong not holiding the by - elections.

I have no love for FF, but there will never be a perfect government, jobs like that attract power hungry people, the worst type of people you want running anything

It is crazy money! Why do you expect people to subsidise your life? I work 50-60 hours a week and I cant afford to have a car or kids. Why do I need to pay for your car and kids out of money I earned? What planet are people like you living on. People in England get £60 a week dole money compared to your €200! I'm sorry if you lost a job or never had a job in the first place... life must be tough but €200 is fantastic compared to most countries in the world. Do you not get childrens allowance, rent allowance and free medical on top of that €200 and get to put your name on a housing list? Do you not also a fuel allowance in Winter?

People talking about revolting should wake up... You are as bad as the moaners in Greece. People who study hard, work hard, and make intelligent decisions about their career and lives generally get rewarded. We live in a capitalist society... why should wealthy people feel guilty about earning more and end up paying extorinate amounts of tax so subsidise people who think society owes them something. Newsflash... the world or society doesnt owe you anything so try and get rid of your misguided sense of entitlement.

Lots of people studied hard, worked hard, and made intelligent decisions about their career...trades men ,architects, engineers, teachers, bankers, car sales men...these are the people on the dole.

The wealthy people of this country on the whole made their money of the backs of the masses...young families that were hoodwinked in to paying exuberant prices for houses that politicians, banks and the rest of the ruling elite were only to happy to see rise and rise for short term gains.
Anyone that has eared a living in Ireland has benefited from the bubble and i think it's only fair that the wealthy pay more as they have gained the most from the Celtic tiger pyramid scheme.....

The biggest mistake we made as a country was we tried to build an economy when we should have been building a society..

So how did the other people hold back and not jump on the property ladder?

There was nothing wrong with wanting to own your own home,to have a safe a secure place to raise a family
I'm sure there are some people with uncanny economic foresight who didn't buy because they seen it all coming (maybe you where one of these such people---congratulation if you are)
But for most who didn't buy I'd say it was probably more down to luck or personal circumstances that didn't necessitate the need for a house.

I didn't see anything coming, but i know when something is over priced

And "needing a home" is a meh excuse for making the biggest decision of your life, especially when houses were waaay over priced

    Revolt?
How about we just learn to VOTE? We keep voting the same idiots in. I blame all of us. I didnt vote for them, but hey WE did.
I didn't see anything coming, but i know when something is over priced
I made my mind up when I saw that a 2 bed apartment would cost more in Dublin city than in Manhattan.
young families that were hoodwinked in to paying exuberant prices for houses that politicians, banks and the rest of the ruling elite were only to happy to see rise
Hoodwinked? They made the most important decision of their lives based on newspaper articles! As for the 'need' to own a house.. Why does one need to own it? Renting works fine for me..
People in this country made money by ripping each other off. I mean everyone. We are all to blame for this.
try living on it you dick head, actually its 196 weekly im paying 45 rent out of it so im left on 151 a week iv airtricity and car insurance to pay clothes kids school books etc , ya smart ass .. it would be crazy money if our country didnt have crazy prices ...it cause of ignorants like you our country is so badly run.
196 a week is far too much. I am very annoyed at the cost of benefits in Ireland. However there is a dilemma for me. I believe that people who paid into this fund (prsi) over the years were led to believe that this safety net was there. Now that they need it we cant just remove it because it's expensive. They earned it.

However not having a job is supposed to be a hardship. That's why people get jobs.
When you lose your job you shouldnt be entitled/enabled to stay in your 4 bed house, drive your car and keep the sky tv /ntl broadband subscription. It should be at a level that supports a basic rent in budget accomodation and a modest food bill etc.
why dont we take over the GPO in Dublin and proclaim a NEW REPUBLIC
I think that would be hilarious. 20 lads with rifles and shotguns barricade themselves in the GPO and attack Dublin castle. They call for fresh national elections. The Irish army is called to intervene. Shots fired. Mayhem. How would history record it??
