Well, I stuck it on following your post and yes, it does work. But what's the point, without sound?

If you are looking for remote access to you pc (including watching), I can not reccomend splashtop enough. Absolutely brilliant app.

Including watching, but devoid of sound?

    I like Teamviewer.

Thanks for that CulaBula. Apparently, the 'Pro' version has sound. Am anticipating an Ipad coming into my posession shortly so will try it myself when I am up and running.

I used team viewer but I find splashtop better. There is a free version on the app store that you can try for session up to 10 minutes (I think).

You can set up splashtop to mute your pc and stream the sound to the ipad. I just find it great, deffo worth a try, specially having the free option (I bought the full version).

Thanks for that, just bought it, given the low price it's currently available for. Will test it now. Teamviewer great for troubleshooting mine and other peoples' Macs/PCs.

Aha! Selected apps only for sound and doesn't appear to work with eyeTV. Pity.

Except it doesn't work.....outside the house. All fine and dandy indoors (though what's the point) but the app never finds either of my Macs when away from my home network.

Never tried it with a Mac but it finds my PC's when I am away from the house. Are you using the google login option

Their support forum is full of people complaining about this: yes, am using the gMail login but don't quite get how that can be expected to work as no record of same at the server end.

Have you used it much for taking notes with yet? I bought a keyboard/case combo for mine, but would still use my laptop if I have to type much more than an email.

Anyway - if Microsoft OneNote is even close to as useful on the iPad as it is on the laptop, then I'd highly recommend it.

Just checked - OneNote is currently free for the iPad iPhone

Edit - US store only by the looks of things :(

You just create an account on the US store using a different e-mail addy and you can login to download from there if I remember correctly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,273 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Thanks - that did work, only it's an iPhone App, not an iPad one - I wasn't paying attention!

    Ha! Oh well.

I installed OneNote on my iPhone 4 by creating a US account but it won't open, when I try to start it, it just minimises again. Any ideas?

Ya its excellent, definitely worth the money if you use a Dreambox. Its bloody handy on the iPad, I use it as my downstairs/bedroom TV. It can't stream the HD channels but all the SD channels work fine. When I first connected it all the audio was out of sync but in the settings there is a "Force Audio Sync" button that fixed it.

Make sure you have the right setup though...an Enigma 2 Dreambox and an 802.11n network.

You need to download them in the US App Store - sign up for a US account with a new e-mail address / ID by clicking a free app in the US store (this way, you won't require a US credit card).

But you still need an american address. right?

Yes but you can make that up. I would just google the name of a US company or hotel and copy and paste that street address and postcode in. They're never going to be sending you letters or anything like that. It's just a formality .

For the jail broken among you...
Swype, the fantastic android swiping keyboard is now unofficially available for iOS. It's still in beta so it's not near as slick as the android version yet but word is that it's come on in leaps and bounds even in the last few days so it's safe to expect good things from it. For anyone who wants to give it a try these are the instructions :
(Incidentally if you don't know what it is google "swype for android" and check out some YouTube videos. It honestly is a typing revolution. It has sped my typing up no end.)

    To install:

    Open Cydia
    Tap “Manage” at the bottom
    Tap “Sources”
    Press “Edit” (top right)
    Press “Add” (top left)
    enter the following:
    wynd.x10.mx

Now search for iswipe in Cydia and install. It will enable automatically.

I put this in the iPhone app thread too. Hope that's ok mods.

EDIT:after giving this a go for the day I'm not very impressed. It still feels a bit in the embryonic stages but hopefully development will progress. Its still worth having a go if you feel like it though as you can use the keyboard as normal without need for uninstall or reinstall of the usual keyboard if you don't like iswipe.

Sleep Talk Recorder is amazing. I installed this last night and set it up for the laugh. Just played back last nights results now and it's insane just what the app picks up.

I must admit I was a bit aprehensive about what I might have said or did in my sleep though!

    It's free too...which is nice.
