Working on this at the moment after seeing similar on Reddit, but a few questions...

Any idea how I get rid of the black shading at the very top and bottom of my screen?
How can I keep my alarms on but remove them from the notification bar at the top?
In the top left I have a battery % from Power Toggles - is there any way I can either delete the stock battery icon, or replace it with a number (and thus get rid of the Power Toggles one)? Basically all I want on my notification bar is time, battery %, and network/wifi/3g connection.

Using Nova launcher on Nexus 5. Thanks.

Still on the standard Android OS.

I know nothing about ROMs so I'm only reading up on them - don't want to do anything yet if I'm not sure what I'm doing!

I haven't used Nova in a while, I'm on Themer, I take it you've looked through the settings in Nova?

For the shadow, open Nova Settings > Desktop > Show Shadow (untick).



The battery % and alarm requests are stock options if you use CyanogenMod ROM - Very easy to install and a tonne of configuration options. I use it with a Nexus 4 are here are screenshots of the requests in question: If you want help with it, let me know. I changed my battery to the circle percentage to show you.

Cyanogen seems to be the most recommended ROM. I might go with that - I'm just terrified I'll brick my new phone!

It is indeed, it's nothing fancy visually - just perfects the Android experience (they have even got features added to AOSP from their own customization's).

It's almost impossible to brick modern Android phones, it's actually so simple to root and flash custom ROM's especially on the Nexus line of phones.

One command to do it - fastboot oem unlock

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone but on one of my homescreens I have a boards bookmark widget. It annoys me that there isn't one decent bookmark widget on android so I made my own which does the job for me.

Made it in uccw which is a super app.

I got an M8 in April and was using stock and blinkfeed for news coz I was abroad. I was very happy with it but now I decided to go for a change.

I decided to go back to mycolorscreen to see what ideas they had and to make it easier to make homescreens, they have a launcher called themer.

Gone are the days of UCCW (their new app is rubbish) and minimalistic text. This is a theme called "Violet".

They only seem to ever both other people, fine by me!
