If this is the option IP passthrough, I've done that (or at least I think I have) - there were 3, my laptop, my wife's and then the xbox

Ip passthrough isnt quite the same as dmz-ing
Found a thread that might help.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=54752611

Points to note on that thread
    1. Is the router given to you by eircom? If so dmzing aint allowed on it...boooo!!

    2. Theres a lad on the thread saying that you can go to custom services and set up a static nat to solve the prob.

    Have a read anyway...may help.

    I got eircom ngb yesterday.

Set it up in about ten minutes and MW2 played like a dream. Granted I had been using a wireless provider but the few games I played yesterday had no lag.

Nat type has changed from Open to Moderate but it is much better than before.

Wireless (Clearwire) worked ok 75% of the time except on Sundays? and when it rained.

has anyone changed to ngb from regular eircom,if so is there much difference in ping times, can't take this lag much longer and there's no other decent providers in the area

My exchange got upgraded. I moved up from 3mbps to around 8mbps (though that's the line maximum, I get just under 6 and a half). Ping was relatively unaffected - the line was a bit ropey for the first few days, and when I was checking network on speedtest it claimed a download speed of ~18mbps at one point (LIES).

It's fine for gaming, it's not really good enough to host public games (6v6 or more) - though I finally get to be the host, I'm the only one who enjoys it when that happens.

For non-gaming, I find for large file downloads the line isn't steady. Speed increases to the maximum, then transfers tend to break and have to be restarted. I also notice that youtube videos don't play the whole way through - probably caused by the same thing. I have to refresh after about 5 minutes to get it back working.

On the whole my line has been improved, no deal breakers - but it's quantity over quality. I definitely feel like the line has been put in the red operating at its limit, and that's surely a recipe for disaster with bandwidth being a limited commodity - I don't know whether a contention ratio nightmare is waiting to happen, or whether it already would have happened if it was going to.

Ring Eircom and ask them to lower the interleaving for you.
The interleaving should be set to low for anyone playing online games.

Has anybody else tried this?? Does it make much of a difference and would it improve your PING?

ill be giving it a shot tomoro, after reading up on it,if its lowered or turned off completely it can knock up to 50ms off ur ping, worth a try anyway</p>http://techgeeks-online.com/tag/interleaving/

Lowering the interleaving will greatly improve the latency for the gameplay especially if it is set to high now. Basically what it does is knock some of the error checking and stuff off each data packet so less checking is done on it. This imrpoves the speed of the data transfer.

I'm with Eircom. I recently got upgraded from a 3mb contested line to an 8mb uncontested line. This has meant that for the first time, I'm occasionally the host.

Unfortunately, the connection is still not good enough to actually host properly so whenever I'm host, everyone else gets booted and I'm left with the "enemies forfeiting in 15,14,13.... My internet connection drops a couple of seconds later so I then have to restart the router and log back in to XBox Live.

What a pain in the ass!

Pretty sweet way to bring up the W/L ratio ;)

I rang eircom today and told him to put my interleaving on low. Im on 7MB. The ping is still in the 70s:( Does it take a while to take effect or should my ping be already lower?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25 Sandy Ravage

I think it can take up to 48 hrs for the changes to take affect. Sometimes the changes fail though so maybe ring them again on tuesday or wednesday if nothing happens
