Ran under an assumed name eh, what if you had a heart attack, what if you had an accident, what if shane long knocked u down while doing some hurdling drills and u were unconscious bleeding out on the road while some poor helpless official (who was a fish he ate-ing) gave u the wrong blood, waaa waaa waaa, what if the boards health and safety losers happened to peruse ur blog and blacklist you from all irish races, what then huh?
Sure keep drinking 6 pints a night and double ur intake of chicken pies from gregg's, if you drink 12 a day 2:50 is a matter of time, where's brian, he threw up.

Congrats. That's a great result and a solid basis for Berlin. Maybe the hangover made you relax a bit ? Either way you are in good shape.

Well done on that run. Its always great to run a good race unexpectedly and just proves the adage that "Guinness is good for you".:D

I wrote my details on the back of the number, i'm not that stupid.

I'm sure you can take a few minutes of that time on another day, so sub 3 in Berlin is certainly a possibility. Now go train for it!

I'll train for it alright. Not following a set plan though. Just gonna steal ideas from different programs and the sub 3 thread on here and tailor it to suit myself. The last thing i want to be doing is 18mls with 14 @ PMP on a weekend i'm at home in Ireland, no thank you.

I reckon it did help me relax, my 5 mile pb was from a race i only decided to do an hour beforehand. Too much time to think about it is counter productive imo.

Haha yeah, there's gotta be something good in it. England's great for the fast half marathons eh?

Mon 21st Mar, Back to the grindstone after yesterdays heroics. 2.5 mls in 23'28 (9'24) very slow recovery jog. Legs felt like logs the whole way and i felt like stopping several times, as tough a run as i've ever had, the legs are shot to pieces after yesterday. Gonna take tomorrow off for a driving lesson and have an easy week before a fastish long tempo run on Sunday in Mallow.

Sub 3 will be a piece of p!ss for you after the sub 10. I'm quite confident of doing it if i stay injury free but 12 minutes is still a big jump. I better work on my sprint finish, no way i'm losing to a triathlete (again)

No credit Brian to text you there. My roster in work goes from thurs - fri so il know my hours for this fri to next thurs later on tonight. If im not working il be free all day. See you're pacing menopause. If im not working Sunday im tempted to go to mallow and pay on the day and do it, just for the craic of course.

Thats fine. Are Will and the others heading down there? If you're heading down I'll let you know if there's a lift going closer to the day.

Weds 23rd Mar, Headed down to Heathside for the club session but arrived late (as i do) and missed the first 6 reps of the 10 x 600m session in primrose hill park. I did the last 4 in about 2'30 (7'00 pace so pretty slow) Legs have been wrecked the last 3 days since Reading so was happy to take it easy. 1.5 mls w/u and 1.5 mls w/d. Total 4.5 mls in 39 mins or so.

These post training drinking sessions keep getting me roped in to do races over here. 10 miler on apr 3rd muted tonight, which doesnt fit in with anything really. Why would i do a race 10 mins down the road when i can do the 12 hour round trip to race at home :D

Thurs Mar 24th, 6 mls easy in 52'10 (8'42) down through Camden Town and into Regent Park. Found a nice grass trail around the outside and the boating lake. Nice run, sunny and warm today and great to run in daylight after work. Felt great throughout, felt like i was jogging the whole way.

Heading home tomorrow for Mallow Sunday. Plan is for a sub 3 hr MP run at 6'50 pace. The HR stats will be very useful for the next few months training and will let me know where i'm at as regards that lofty target. I haven't been in Ireland for 47 days  and looking forward to the weekend. No delays please ryanair!

    Hi Brian

Bit confused....are you planning a 3 hr run at 6'50 pace?

Thats a marathon right? If you are doing that why not just enter the next flat marathon you find and see what happens?

I think you might be better off (after your great time in reading) resting up and then launching into a dedicated marathon program with the aim of going sun 3.

Sorry yeah i was a bit hazy there. Gonna do the 10 mile race in Mallow on Sunday at 6'50 pace as a marathon pace run for a sub 3 hour attempt in Berlin in September. HR stats will be useful for comparison in the coming months.

I wouldnt dream of trying a sub 3 this weekend. I'm not that crazy!

I did miles 3-13 in reading in 63'45, which is close to my 10 mile pb, part of me is saying give it a lash but common sense will prevail.

Sat 26th Mar, 5 mls in 42'40 (8'32) on the UL riverbank. Slow and easy. Felt great after the "rest day" yesterday which involved a time trial like effort on the bike to make the bus to stansted. Great day in Limerick and good to be home. Mallow tomorrow should be no problem.

Jealous of your run in todays weather. I got out at 6.30 after work tonight, lovely breeze. The reception area of work was 22 degrees today. ****ing sweltering like.

Yeah that suits time re your text if yer around.

Training going well, very happy. Im almost tempted to even start a new log now :D

    Mallow 10, Sun 27th Mar.

Plan was to head out at 6'50 pace as a sub 3 hr MP with Menoscemo and kept to this for the first few put he didnt seem to have it today and i pushed on around the racecourse at the same pace. I was moving easy enough but the HR belied the percieved effort. It was up around 186-188 for the first 6-7 mls. Heading up a few of the hills i kept the pace and was moving easier than those around me but i wasnt enjoying it. I pushed on down the hill and did the last 2 in 6'30's as i was racing a few of the others near the end. Finished in 67'38, 6'46 pace, (same time as frank duffy last august) but i'm good for 4 mins faster i know. Just too much too soon after Barca and Reading and it doesnt give me much info on a sub 3 attempt in Berlin in 6 months time.

Good to go for a pint or 2 with the gang after. Not looking forward to my 5 mile cycle across north london at midnight tonight. I've a bad feeling my bike will have been molested over the weekend as i locked it outside a tube station. Happy i ran though, it was a good day out.

Weekly Review, 29 mls and 3 runs. Seemed to recover from Reading with an easy week but today says otherwise. I'll have a think as to where i go from here now. Plan was for Kilnaboy in 2 weeks but i'm not so sure at the mo.

    Yearly Mileage, 436 miles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,991 ✭✭✭metamorphosis

Like i said to ya today, you have nothing to prove in Kilnaboy at all and you have put your body through a lot since Barca. todays HR told you that and there's no point risking the rest of 2011 for a race in 2 weeks that you have nothing to prove. You did a mega half after Barca and a solid run today. Let the body catch back up for the next few weeks.

    Berlin .. remember Berlin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭Oisin11178

I was off today and could have got down for this race but i knew i wouldnt do myself justice. As the previous poster said brian set your sights on Berlin and everything else between now and then is just prep.

Thanks guys, ye speak the truth i know. I just dont like putting all my eggs in one basket given my shambolic marathon record. Sub 30 min 5 is almost as important. That one has been nagging away at me for 5 yrs.

Mon 28th Mar, 2.5 mls easy jog at 9'10 min pace. Monstrous fatigue today. Felt like a cancer patient. Easy week on the way. I really have gone to the well once too often.
