There was a post somewhere recently in this thread I think with a listing of the pacers and how to use them, search is failing me for now though.

Anyone wanting to print of their own pace band for any specific time they are aiming for can do so from here:
    http://www.marathonguide.com/fitnesscalcs/PaceBandCreator.cfm

if its the thread I was thinking of, I think it was closed a few weeks ago, once they had all the pacers sorted out. I think only the pacers themselves have access to it now.

Ahh, it's possible that is where I saw it then. I thought there had been a post in the main forum somewhere about it, but possibly not.

Hi All - ok so 3 days to go and I still haven't sussed my PMP and its driving me crazy.

Long story (kinda) short is that according to my HM times (1:58 in May and 1:57 in Sept) McMillan reckons I could do a 4:07. Now that to me is just crazy. I've done two 20 milers (3:28 & 3:40) - the first I was fairly comfortable and happy with the second i really struggled the last 4 miles so obviously not so happy, but I know what went wrong (heavy night 2nights before not great prep, diet, tired etc..) and clearly won't be doing that again...

BUT here's the thing - that first 20 miler was at 10:26 pace. Now I know LSRs are supposed to be slow and thats grand but I'm just not sure I could have gone faster... So my options are

    1) go with the 4 hour pace group - was once an idea but not anymore, no way - move on to
    2) go with the 4:30 group - but this is 10:22 pace or thereabouts and while I know I'll enjoy the marathon (which is my main aim) I don't want to get to the end and say I could have done more
    3) set my own pace at 4:15. I have the paceband and I have my Garmin so I'm all set. I just have read so many stories about going out too fast and blwoing up - i defintely don't want that. 4:15 is 9:43 pace - a good 43 seconds faster that my "good" 20 miler . But then again I did my half in sept @ 8:55 pace so maybe 9:43 is possible???.

What to do - I'm in a heap and the one thing I know I do want is ONE plan on Monday at 9am....help?

This one. Having done your long runs about 45 seconds slower than this pace, you should be all set to run that time in the marathon (assuming all the other training elements went fine).

...and I get the feeling that's the answer you want to hear!

Defintitely anything bar no. 1 or even the 4.07 option. People will often say double the half time and add 10mins but that would generally be for sub 3 guys, i think it was shown a year or so ago on here that its doubly your half time and add 14 - 25 mins for most over the 3 hour mark. obviously it all depends on training and other factors. Id say go with # 3 as peckham says.

2:59:59 - Elfoyzer - 3:29 p.b (2008) but disappointing DCM last year following IM Switzerland, just know I can run better than that!
2:59:59 - Bloody Nipples - 4th Marathon, ran 3:15 in Cork, hopefully knock 15-20 mins off by increasing the mileage

Hi everyone, just another long time lurker popping out of the woodwork for some last minute advice!! Thanks to everyone on this thread for all the invaluvable advice I've gleaned here over the lst few months. I have yet another question on pace. This is my second marathon first one completed in 4:14 a year and a half ago. Finished a flat 1/2 marathon last winter in 1:46. Training going well for this one but struggled through a hilly half marathon on a hot day this summer in only 1:56. My lsr's are 19m in 3:02, 20.5m in 3:08 and 22m in 3:16. Was going to try to either run my own race at 9min miles or else try to run with the 4:00 pacing group. What do ye think too ambitious? All advice appreciated!! Thanks.

Based on the 3.16 for 22m you are being conserative even going for 4hrs, you ve only an extra 4.5m (if we assume you ll clock at least 26.5m) so you ve 44mins to run them. Id say go with the 4hr pacers and you should be able to pick it up and finish around 3.55 if those lsr's are accurate. And I havent even taken into account the fact that lsr's would be slower than race pace. Have you been doing them a bit too fast?

I wouldnt let one bad half marathon put you off.

Just wondering if there are many others aiming for about the 3:05 mark?

Wouldn't mind running with a few others on the day.

There's a 3 hour pacing group - worth trying to hang onto them for as long as possible. Good Luck!

Thanks Kennyb - the lsr's measured on garmin so hopefully accurate. Felt very comfortable on them and hr was about that recommended aswell - I just seem to have no ability to 'up the pace' on raceday!! :) Yeah it was the half-marathon time putting me off going for 4 hours, but I really really suffer in the heat so I'll put it down to that and follow your advice and hope for the best on race-day!! :-) Thanks again great to get a bit of advice from those with more experience!

This one. Having done your long runs about 45 seconds slower than this pace, you should be all set to run that time in the marathon (assuming all the other training elements went fine).

...and I get the feeling that's the answer you want to hear!

I agree with this, I'm in the same boat as yourself and have decided to aim for a 4:15. :)
