It's that time of year again - for Ireland to be mugged by the Balkan mafia in the voting. Our "semi final" is tonight.


I think the UK are able to vote for us though which they could not in previous years.

The semi final, so called, is tonight. The UK, France and Spain don't have to take part - they are automatically into the final because of the money they put into it. The pauper nations have to "qualify" - also in the semi finals only certain countries can vote for other countries AFAIK.

Final is on Saturday?

It kinda shows how undemocratic even entertainment aspects of Europe are. I mean you wouldn't even get that in US.

The song is a bit blah, but very Eurovision-y, circa 1995. If we get through tonight (and that's a big if) then I'd say we'll do well enough in the finals.

No-one will vote for Greece as they have got enough off of us already. I thought Iceland would be gonners too though due to Mount Wannahockaloogie - looks like the fact that they told the British and French to go piss up a rope earned them some kudos.

I reckon Germany are out as well - they will make sure they lose so they won't have to stup up for hosting next year.

No-one likes Britain, Belgium or Italy.

Portugal and Spain can't afford to win it.

The Balkan states are unlikely to win this year as all their good looking birds are over here.

That really just leaves Scandanavia and us, now Niamh may be a bit plump around the middle, but she ain't no damn socialist so I reckon we're quids in to win the whole thing this year.

Next year, we will host the event from a Ghost Estate in Leitrim and have the points awarded by Morgan Kelly, David McWilliams and Constantin Gurgidugiedvedieveveve according to fiscal prudence.

Half time entertaiment will be a juggling act by Michal Fingleton and Seany Fitz.

Huh the paupers have to qualify? Is this a new rule? For the past few years it's been the countries with the least amount of votes in the final got dumped into the semi finals the following year. Has this changed? Is everyone in the semi finals now (apart from the paying/winning countries)?

Well, I have the tremendous bet of €1 not to qualify. It's a crappy song, not sung powerfully enough (but that's the fault of the song). First verse starts a bit abruptly too.

As usual putting Linda Martin being on the panel means we will do shíte I'd say - maybe if Niamh being a previous winner and not doing well has any consequences, it'll be that RTÉ will finally take Linda out the back and shoot her off the panel. Look at youtube theres a pile of really decent entries that never even got to the final on the Late Late, including 1 crowd who've entered every year since about 2001 with what I think are better songs.

Germany's entry is actually pretty good this year (by Eurovision standards). They did a You're A Star type talent show to find their entry. Their singer Lena is one sassy lassie and likes a bit of skinny dipping as well (she did some TV show I think where her character and another guy jump into a pool sans clothing). Azerbijan are the favourites and Germany are right there in second with the bookies. Word is that Azerbijan weren't that great in the dress rehearsal so Germany could be the new favourites after tonight.

Kiss of death. She won't qualify. Too much bloc voting especially tonight, with the likes of Armenia,Turkey, Azerbaijan,Ukraine divvying up the ole million votes, we'll struggle. It's no coincidence that Irelands Eurovision decline began with televoting - even allowing for the fact it is supposed to be 50-50 Jury/Televote now....:mad:
