It's that time of year again - for Ireland to be mugged by the Balkan mafia in the voting. Our "semi final" is tonight.

I think the UK are able to vote for us though which they could not in previous years.

    Ah the good aul ballad...

Nice effort in fairness but the singer is a bit, eh I dunno, "pleasantly plump":o Good singer though...

I think if Johnny Logan and Niamh Kavanagh had a kid then we could probably win back the title in about 20 years.

I would swear we got points from the UK in previous years

That song could have done well 10+ years ago, now it's about who has the craziest costumes and the most flamethrowers in the background.

The semi final, so called, is tonight. The UK, France and Spain don't have to take part - they are automatically into the final because of the money they put into it. The pauper nations have to "qualify" - also in the semi finals only certain countries can vote for other countries AFAIK.

    Final is on Saturday?

It kinda shows how undemocratic even entertainment aspects of Europe are. I mean you wouldn't even get that in US.

Well they don't have countries. To be fair.

Entertainment has to be democratic now? Next time I go to Croke Park I'll be sure to bring my ballot card.

Thread title and then contents is confusing the hell out of me!
    Are we in or out?

We're still in but I imagine we'll be out before the night is through.

The semi final isn't on until tonight, the OP is just being pessimistic!

    Cheers.

Someone change that bloody title please!

...And OP, Thierry Henry hasn't been let on the stage yet so we might still stand a chance!

Would be great if they could get through to the final, would do wonders for the recession battered economy. Think of all the booze that will be purchased on Saturday to help endure the oral struggle as audiences the country over await TV's ultimate voting exhibition.

I'm strangely unskeptical about this years voting system.

I think we have a chance.

We better not win it !

What's this got to do with anything?

The song is a bit blah, but very Eurovision-y, circa 1995. If we get through tonight (and that's a big if) then I'd say we'll do well enough in the finals.

maybe if we had a gwar type thing we could win it....

i vote Warlords of Pez to be our entry next year :p:p:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,661 ✭✭✭General Zod

they won't vote for another Lordi type act again, not for a long time.

I think we should just send Crystal Swing singing "Warpigs" every year until it wins.

I really hope we do get knocked out of it. We can't afford to host a Eurovision these days. It's a rubbish parody of it's former self anyway.

Anyone for another chorus of "My Lovely Horse"? :D

    Jen ;->

No-one will vote for Greece as they have got enough off of us already. I thought Iceland would be gonners too though due to Mount Wannahockaloogie - looks like the fact that they told the British and French to go piss up a rope earned them some kudos.

I reckon Germany are out as well - they will make sure they lose so they won't have to stup up for hosting next year.

No-one likes Britain, Belgium or Italy.

Portugal and Spain can't afford to win it.

The Balkan states are unlikely to win this year as all their good looking birds are over here.

That really just leaves Scandanavia and us, now Niamh may be a bit plump around the middle, but she ain't no damn socialist so I reckon we're quids in to win the whole thing this year.

Next year, we will host the event from a Ghost Estate in Leitrim and have the points awarded by Morgan Kelly, David McWilliams and Constantin Gurgidugiedvedieveveve according to fiscal prudence.

Half time entertaiment will be a juggling act by Michal Fingleton and Seany Fitz.
