From todays Cycling Weekly 'The Wednesday Comment'

The story just keeps getting better & better (for us non-believers)

    Full Article: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest/470777/the-wednesday-comment.html

'[Yesterday, CW received a call from Bob Hamman, the president of SCA Promotions, a sports promotions company that based in Dallas, Texas. In layman's terms, Tailwind Sports took out a series of insurance policies that would guarantee hefty pay-outs for each of Armstrong's Tour de France wins. By the time of his sixth win, in 2004, the payment due was $10m. However, after the publication of the book LA Confidentiel by David Walsh and Pierre Ballester, which contained allegations of doping against d and, eventually, SCA decided to settle out of court and paid up.

During the hearing, Armstrong gave a deposition - an out-of-court interview under oath to be used as his testimony at the hearing. During that deposition the matter of a payment made to the UCI came up. Not surprisingly, SCA's lawyers wanted to know what the payment was for and why it had been made, because a payment from an active athlete to his sport's governing body could be viewed as a conflict of interest. In that deposition Armstrong said the payment was around $25,000, certainly not more than about $30,000. Armstrong's attorney, Bill Stapleton, said in his deposition that Armstrong had made "one or two" payments over the years.
CW has seen the text of both deposition statements.

Now that Pat McQuaid has confirmed that
Armstrong paid $100,000 SCA Promotions is considering its options'

A woman scorned. Don't go there. If I cheated on my missus, its not her fessing up to the feds that would worry me.

She may, or she may not. If it comes down to lying to a federal investigator for him after he cheated on her, I think it's game over.

Of course, she'll then be written off as a bitter ex-wife with a grudge to bring down America's Greatest Unitesticular Sporting Hero.

It's great - nearly anybody who has anything negative to say about LA can be described as a 'bitter, ex-<insert role here>'

The role can be any of...
    Wife
    Teammate
    Masseuse
    Rival
    Friend

I have already wrote its hearsay and no proof. If and its a big If Armstrong's former wife backs Landis,Its game over for him.I just want the truth to come out. There is no way LA can justify that his ex is just bitter.

If his ex backs Landis LA is completely finished, his name will be dirt and he will lose lots of money and possible jail time.

It would be a pity if proven but I won't dance on his grave yet.

Very hard on young pros staying clean when you have the old dogs taking everything possible, winning all the major tours, getting all the big contracts, the acclaim and blantantly taking the *iss :D and getting away with it, the "if you can't beat them join them" could spring to mind.

According to Eurosport Matthew White Director of Garmin-Transions is being invesitigated. This could be a big blow to the perception that some of the teams are trying to clean it up, if he is found to be involved in doping

    Ah ya!

    Garmin

Their Doc upto last year was Allen Lim (Cited by FL, now with LA)

Their rider / part owner Millar is an ex doper

Wiggins has shown amazing improvements for his performance in last year's Tour

    Why?

I for one welcome the downfall of any cheats. And yes I believe LA is one.

    OK folks.

This might well be an unpopular decision, but I'm going to close this thread and related ones, at least temporarily, to protect boards.ie from possible legal issues arising in the next few days.

It looks like things are about to get quite interesting in the wider story, and whilst I love watching a demolition derby as much as the next person, and discussing it here, I'd rather not be directly involved in the wreckage.

    Intermission over.

Expert: Floyd Landis could be protected, and rewarded, by whistleblower law

Report: Federal investigators consider fraud and conspiracy charges related to Landis’ claims against Lance Armstrong

edit: please try and keep discussion to the available facts, linking to sources if possible, out of respect for the modest legal resources of boards.ie

You are entitled to your opinion that he's a cheat but to date it hasn't been proven ,but there is a lot of people out there who admire him for the way he battled through his treatment, his charity work and finally his cycling exploits. The "pity" is that he would have made a fool of all these people who backed him, kids who idolised him etc.

I won't pity him if found guilty and like yourself welcome the downfall of cheats.

how does that work exactly? are they not aware of the fundamental rule of forums that whatever a poster says is their OPINION regardless of 'fact' which may say otherwise or the desire of any who reads the posts to believe otherwise. Or was it a way for you/them to put it to bed untill something comes of it..if so thanks :) this might end up dragging on for years yet, the man has a lot of $ to defend his case with [$100m ]

    Millar
"If he had stood up and manned up four years ago, he'd be racing the Tour de France now," Millar said. "He'd have a different book out. He'd have not lost a penny. He'd be admired by young people. He would have a different life ahead of him. He'd be in a decent mental state. He'd be sober.
but then he comes out with
    "And he'd be married."
    WTF

I like Millar but they were nasty snide and unnecessary comments.

Says more about Millar unfortunately than it does about Landis.

At this stage he's lost his career, wife and feels responsible to an extent for his father in laws suicide.

A better man than me said he without sin cast the first stone....

Millar also had the benefit of being locked in a police cell to encourage his confession. But he didn't finger anyone, did the doping all himself, so he gets back into the peloton no bother.

Had a few drinks himself on his year out ....its all here.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Millar
