Done I haven't changed the name just let, suggestions on a postcard!

    How about:

New Sections of D3 (three lanes) for M1
    Shouldn't it be "6-Laning M1 Drinan-Lissenhall"?

Also, I've seen it given as Drinan and Drynam, which is it?

    Seems to be both!

A bit of an Oilgate/Oylegate situation. If you local with pretensions you probably call it Drynam. ;)

    according to http://www.fingalcoco.ie/Roads/SchemesonDisplay/SchemesPreviouslyonDisplay/DrinanLissenhall-Proposed3rdLane/

from looking at sheet50 from the os, Drinan is south of the junction on the Swords/Malahide road with the road to Seabury.
The town land where the works start would be Nevinstown East or Marshalstown or Barrysparks. there's no townland boundaries on these maps

There is no Drynham marked as a townland.

There is no Drynham marked as a townland.

Nope. Drinan was modified to "Drynham" by developers who built the surrounding housing.

Drynham sounds very Englishshire periody property porn - whereas "Drinan" is pure Gaelic.

We know which image sells to the Oirish middle class!

Eh... yes, this is clearly on-topic Mod

I be of the Middle classes..... and I'd have taken Drinan rather than that idiotic bastardised name they have come up with. I live not far away, and did not even realise that was the case. I will be referring to it by it's correct Gaelic title in future.

The name in Irish from which Drinan is anglisced is Draighneán which means "Blackthorn"

Logainm gives a list of names the area is recored including:
    Drynam -- map 1740
    Drinham -- Rocque's map (18th century)

see http://www.logainm.ie/16953.aspx -- hit Taifead Scanáilte.

As mentioned a few posts up they've started mobilising to site. They have q few portacabins on site already so won't be long now.

I imagine they'll be putting in lane restrictions and speed restrictions along the route so it'll slow traffic here and might help with the number of collisions (although won't help with traffic flow!!)

VMS Southbound at M1 Ballyboughal informs us that the works starts 25 Jan, i.e. tomorrow.

Just a quick post to say I'm delighted to see these works are proceeding on the m1. Great to see that even through the recession these little very beneficial projects are happening. I’ve seen a lot of other good resurfacing works done all throughout Dublin recently!

The previous upgrade works from the airport to Drinan seemed almost pointless to me at the time, because I thought they needed to go as far as Lissenhall. But I was delighted to be wrong about it as the upgrades did make a big difference to peak time travel time.

The merge northbound at Drinan from 3 lanes to 2 lanes, as mentioned by lots of people is an absolute disaster. The person responsible should be shot. I've seen I think 6 or 7 small accidents, and personally witnessed 2 of them actually happening. Luckily I personally avoided them.

The completion of d3 as far as Lissenhall should really make another fantastic difference to travel time at peak times on the m1, although for non-peak times the inevitable reduction down from 120kph to 100kph will be hard to put up with.

It won't make a pick of difference to the majority.

Road's speeds are rarely monitored or adhered to.

I was driving along Hearse Road today and noticed a temporary VMS (Westbound on the approach to Lissenhall) confirming that M1 widening works would start tomorrow 25th Jan 2012 (well 99% sure that's what it was stating)!

    Regards! :)

Work on the the R132 dual carriageway from Collinstown Cross to Airport Roundabout is due to get underway shortly according to Fingal County Council's website as this page shows!

The work consists of upgrading approximately 1.3km of existing 4 lane single carriageway (I've included the makeshift bit) to Dual 3 lane (1 bus lane and 2 general traffic lanes each way) - also included is a 1.5m on-road cycle lane each way bringing the carriageway pavements to 11.75m (1.5m + 3.25m + 3.5m + 3.5m) each.

    Regards! :)

this morning, about 11:30, one lane of the M1N was closed from about the Broadmeadow viaduct to north of the Lissenhall junction.
The lane closure was just after the helpful vms telling me works were starting tomorrow..

The R132 DC won't really be "complete" until they fix the gap between the Clogrhan and Pinnock Hill roundabouts though. That is sort-of four lane single in bits but not DC.

When I saw r132 dual carriageway starting soon on twitter, I assumed it'd be the Airport to Swords bit, right when the M1 work was going on...

Tbh, after being along the airport section of the r132 at various times of the day, I'm not sure that there is a huge need to dual it. Improve the junction with the airport proper and the long term/hire car area sure and the junction with the road parallel to 10/28 runway, but the main hold up I've encountered ( from 10am through evening peak and later) is the airport roundabout, where there is a yield on the r132N, but all other approaches have lights. Also the 2-1 lane merge on the M1E is poorly done, there should be 2 lanes from the Airport roundabout while the r132S to M1E lane should go the whole way to the M1E/M1mainline junction.

Strange; I could have sworn Cloghran to Pinnock Hill was going ahead as part of this. Or at least, at the same time as a separate scheme.

Edit: Egads, you're right. Suspended, it sounds like, according to this.

fantastic that the works have started, but the cones didn't make much difference; another crash this evening. Thats 3 this week.

as an m50 commuter through the bad years, these works will be the easiest 10months I'll gladly endure with a smile!
taxpayers money being (sparingly) spent on something worthwhile

I said it when the last bit of D3 opened that a lane drop should've been used or at least not have the outside lane ending straight after a junction. Knowing our geniuses though they'll probably do the same thing with this section.

No have a look at the plans. They've been up here in this thread a few times. Lane drops. The current setup was a temporary measure until this section is rolled into it.

I passed around 5.40pm and it looked like a breakdown was been taken away and not a crash but I couldn't be sure. (AA van just leaving as I came along). Did you see a crash this pm? AA van was towing away a navy 08 Golf or Astra HB.

I think the separate schemes you mentioned were actually major resurfacing jobs along two stretches of the R132 - Santry Cross to Collinstown Cross & Cloghran Roundabout to Pinnock Hill Roundabout - there's AFAIK nothing about dualling in those schemes. However, the actual dualling works are taking place from Collinstown Cross to the Airport Roundabout - 1.3km approximately.

Wonder if anyone can confirm if the above mentioned resurfacing jobs were carried out - I haven't been along the R132 between Santry and Swords lately.

    Many Thanks!

There was no logical reason to not have a lane drop at the end of the last bit they did, just would've had to paint different lines on the road.
