Fupin Hate Ironing (Ban the Iron)

Why can't we make it socially acceptable to wear creased clothes. Can't bear this ironing lark. If we all stopped ironing our clothes within a year or so we would all forget about how ironed clothes looked. Think of all hours it would give us back..

    BAN THE IRON!!!!!

I very very rarely have to iron anything. Fabric softener or the tumble dryer ftw!

I have not ironed my clothes in about ever. They are never ironed and never will be. I get my shirts done in the dry cleaners when they need cleaning, which is rare as I don't wear them. Such a waste of time.

My solution to this is to not iron at all :). Tryed ironing once and it was a disaster, as i always wear tracksuit/t shirt type clothes they dont show creases up when you put it on :)

    I hate ironing

i just fold the clothes and put them away and iron as i need them.

poeple who iron all their clothes at the one time are wasting hours that they cant get back.

How can some people not iron? I mean, most clothes crease, right? I feel like I'm ALWAYS ironing..... but I 'iron as I go' none of this 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon malarkey (one of the aul wans in work does that) - FUP that!

Iron is too hot = hole
Iron trousers = funny shinny finish.

Seriously this is not what men were made for!!

I see it was a waste of peoples energy and electrical energy, it would not be too hard to make it look unacceptable. I could even imagine irons being banned, they banned those patio heaters for being so wasteful of energy.

A mate of mine even irons his socks & boxers.

Use a fabric softener, take the clothes straight out of the machine as soon as it's finished and hang them properly(or put them in the dryer, and again take them out soon as it's finished), and you'd be amazed how much doesn't need to be ironed

Wht clothes are you wearing. I try to wear cotton as much as possible. Out of the machine soon as it finishes, onto a hangar, and as it dries, it keeps its natural shape. No Ironing needed.

Every morning it's the same--- I take clothes out of the press/wardrobe, look at my watch and say nah I'll get away with not ironing this! Even though its got more creases than Deirdre Barlows neck....

My clothes are on a strictly "need to iron" basis only

Your name would indicate that the only time you should be in contact with an iron is when you collect it from Argos , wrap it and give it to her for her birthday . :):pac::pac::pac:

Are you saying you take you clothes out of your washing machine and put them on hangers?

Exactly, there's no need to iron your clothes if you just hang them up, inside or outside after they're washed and then fold them straight away when you bring them in off the line/take them off the clothes dryer.

Some people iron sheets and underwear and the whole lot, what's the point?

I'm a bit too good at ironing creases into clothes anyways.

Yeah, clothes do crease, so whats the big deal -i.e. why bother ironing, I just accept it, why try and deny it happens. I can understand people doing it for particular jobs where the employer might demand it, sort of like people having to be clean shaven. I only bother 2 shave about twice a week. I think its mad that so many women waste so much time shaving their legs & underarms -there is no way a employer would ask them to, unless they were models or something. Whenever people in my work comment about my having a few days stubble on my face I always rip them apart for being sexist as they never say anything about the hairy women in the place.

Why not? If we all wear creased suites all over the after world after a while it would look normal.

Come on lets go for it!! Ban That Hot Metal Enemy.

And I thought I was the only one. I love ironing, find it very therapeutic. I love the smell of freshly ironed clothes, I love seeing the pile of immaculately folded clothes ready to go back in the wardrobe.

I propose the 6th of June as "Feck Your Iron In The River Day"
This makes it easy to be National or International, we all have a river near by.

    ELECTRIC IRON
The electric iron was invented in 1882 by Henry W. Seeley, a New York inventor Seeley patented his "electric flatiron" on June 6, 1882 (patent no. 259,054). His iron weighed almost 15 pounds and took a long time to warm up.

    Iron RIP 1882- 2010..

I also actually enjoy ironing. I don't iron socks and underwear mind you but there's nothing like a well ironed shirt and pants with some crisp sleeve and leg creases, mmmmm :o

It is, you just have to be able to pull of the cool yet disheveled disinterested possible alco look. Ability to attain this look also makes it socially acceptable to shave once a week if at all, drink spirits before noon and wear sunglasses 24/7.

I HATE ironing so much. I remember when i was a kid i asked for a Barbie for xmas. She had a gorgeous pink ballgown with glow in the dark stars..i ironed it and it melted. I cried for days.:(

So sorry to hear that. Hope you and the children are coping, can't be easy.

Brian_Ireland you make an excellent point. While we are banning ironing we could also ban going to the gym, hair straightening, cutting grass more than once a month and all the other crap we feel we have to do because everyone else does and we'd stick out if we didn't.

Life would be so much better if there wasn't so much rubbishy time consuming stuff spent on keeping everything looking respectable. If we'd all just agree to put a stop to it we'd all be happier.

Brian Ireland : Very sorry for your loss. Best wishes to you and your kids.

Are you saying you take you clothes out of your washing machine and put them on hangers?

Yes. Then I hang them on the clothes line. When they are dry I hang them in the wardrobe. If you do it right you never get a crease.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭Goldenquick

I rarely iron myself, but if I need something in a hurry, wet a tea towel, put it into the dryer with the offending garment which needs ironing, a few minutes later, hey presto - it's as good as the day it was bought - nearly. Waste of electricity I know but quicker than ironing and easier. :)

So sorry to hear about your wife brian ireland.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭kelle

Brian Ireland, i am sorry to read about your wife. I hope you and your children are okay.

I do minimum ironing - I only iron my uniform for work, and any clothes that look really badly creased.

People that iron everything are crazy. My dear mother always said "Your children won't remember if they went to bed in ironed pyjamas and bedclothes, but they will remember if you read them a bedtime story!"

So remember, your time spent with your children is far better than time wasted ironing!

One trick I developed for shirts, when I worked in an office that required shirt & tie, was to put a load of slightly damp shirts on a single hanger, straight out of the dryer while still hot. The combination of the heat and pressure made for a kind of self-ironing shirt package. Not perfect, but fine for general work use.

I thought that was a de-crease-ing trend, to be honest. I'm already board of it ...

Sorry about your wife Brian Ireland.

I hate not having ironed clothes, I've always ironed everything even socks! At the moment I currently have about 2 weeks worth of ironing for 4 people to do. I really want to just throw them all out and start again. I HATE ironing but hate creased clothes:mad:
