And I thought I was the only one. I love ironing, find it very therapeutic. I love the smell of freshly ironed clothes, I love seeing the pile of immaculately folded clothes ready to go back in the wardrobe.

I also actually enjoy ironing. I don't iron socks and underwear mind you but there's nothing like a well ironed shirt and pants with some crisp sleeve and leg creases, mmmmm :o

Or get married & leave the ironing to the missus. Problem solved. ;)

Wife passed away March 28th. On our own now. My clothes and two kids 11 & 15 is a good reason to start the campaign. BTI..

Why can't we make it socially acceptable to wear creased clothes. Can't bear this ironing lark. If we all stopped ironing our clothes within a year or so we would all forget about how ironed clothes looked. Think of all hours it would give us back..

    BAN THE IRON!!!!!

It is, you just have to be able to pull of the cool yet disheveled disinterested possible alco look. Ability to attain this look also makes it socially acceptable to shave once a week if at all, drink spirits before noon and wear sunglasses 24/7.

So sorry to hear that. Hope you and the children are coping, can't be easy.

Brian_Ireland you make an excellent point. While we are banning ironing we could also ban going to the gym, hair straightening, cutting grass more than once a month and all the other crap we feel we have to do because everyone else does and we'd stick out if we didn't.

Life would be so much better if there wasn't so much rubbishy time consuming stuff spent on keeping everything looking respectable. If we'd all just agree to put a stop to it we'd all be happier.

Brian Ireland : Very sorry for your loss. Best wishes to you and your kids.

Are you saying you take you clothes out of your washing machine and put them on hangers?

Yes. Then I hang them on the clothes line. When they are dry I hang them in the wardrobe. If you do it right you never get a crease.

I rarely iron myself, but if I need something in a hurry, wet a tea towel, put it into the dryer with the offending garment which needs ironing, a few minutes later, hey presto - it's as good as the day it was bought - nearly. Waste of electricity I know but quicker than ironing and easier. :)

So sorry to hear about your wife brian ireland.

Brian Ireland, i am sorry to read about your wife. I hope you and your children are okay.

I do minimum ironing - I only iron my uniform for work, and any clothes that look really badly creased.

People that iron everything are crazy. My dear mother always said "Your children won't remember if they went to bed in ironed pyjamas and bedclothes, but they will remember if you read them a bedtime story!"

So remember, your time spent with your children is far better than time wasted ironing!

One trick I developed for shirts, when I worked in an office that required shirt & tie, was to put a load of slightly damp shirts on a single hanger, straight out of the dryer while still hot. The combination of the heat and pressure made for a kind of self-ironing shirt package. Not perfect, but fine for general work use.

I thought that was a de-crease-ing trend, to be honest. I'm already board of it ...

Sorry about your wife Brian Ireland.

I hate not having ironed clothes, I've always ironed everything even socks! At the moment I currently have about 2 weeks worth of ironing for 4 people to do. I really want to just throw them all out and start again. I HATE ironing but hate creased clothes:mad:

Hate ironing as well. Given up on it at this stage, just drop in my shirts to the dry cleaners now. €1.50 a shirt but money well spent :)

Couldn't agree more...! Think of the hours the country wastes ironing. Also, its acceptable to wear creased linen isn't it?

Hate ironing, I only iron my work shirts, everything else is hung up or folded. Why on earth some people iron socks and boxers is beyond me.

Tip for hotel travellers, when you unpack, hang your clothes on hangers, in the loo (may need string). When you have a shower, the steam should help to de-crease your clothes.

    I never iron anything.
I haven't ironed anything for me, my husband, or kids ever I don't think!
I use the tumble dryer, and hang clothes in the wardrobe.

I don't see the need for ironing unless it's a creasey shirt or something, which shouldn't happen if dried in dryer.

Ironing is such a waste of time.

I know too many people (mainly women), who waste time ironing underwear, towels, and sheets - ridiculous!

Don't worry, I am currently developing a self-ironing machine that will save you on all your ironing dilemas.. I'll be rich and you'll be saved from one dreaded chore, no need to thank me, it's for the greater good of humanity after all.
