Would like to make it, but that weekend now has three events I want to go to, none of which I'll be making. College exams are a bitch.

Looks a fairly good and comprehensive layout.

    Would enjoy going for the 500, 600, 800, 900 F-class - 25m pistol and 50m benchrest.

    yep, IWM is right -
that weekend now has three events I want to go to
I've just realised the NTSA National 25m Prone shoot is on in Rathdrum on that Sunday too!:( Decisions, Decisions......

Anyone know how to bi-locate or anyone willing to give me a lift in their helicopter from Rathdrum to Midlands on the Sunday? Let's see the F/TR 800 & 900yd competition starts at 10am in Midlands and runs for 3 hours - the 25m Prone competition in Rathdrum starts at 10am in Rathdrum - This is gonna be tricky!

Guess I'll have to decide on one!

Not necessarily. We could always run an evening detail if there was demand enough for it. Get three more and it's definite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭dCorbus

Think I might know one other - IWM and IrlConor perhaps?;) Or anyone else for that matter?
That would be great - Count me in for an evening detail if at all poss.
Will ask the lads, but would be great if this could be facilitated.
Thanks a mill rrpc for the suggestion and for putting this forward as a solution - I doubt I'm the only one on here with this dilemma!
    :D

Like I say, exams, not going to make it to anything that week, though I'd dearly like to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭dCorbus

BTW Anyone on here from the NRAI with a few more details about this National competition shoot? Thanks.

    Is this an Open competition?

    Closing date for entries?

    etc.

    Thanks, dC

Just spotted this on the NRAI website:

    May be of interest!

(Don't know if this has been already posted - If it has, MODS please remove this. Thanks)

Was going to travel from Belfast, but since there is only a 500 & 600 yard TR shoot there really is no point.

I cannot believe they can run F-class short & long range but wont run TR alongside it.

    Doesn’t make any sense.:mad::mad::mad:

Why come on here bad mouthing an event. There are 6-7 different disciplines over 2 days. If it doesn't suit don't take part. I've never seen any other event announcemnent being criticised for not holding exactly what a shooter wanted.

Find another event on another range then. If you have nothing positive to add, add nothing.

Ignore ezridax, we are not all that ignorant at MNSCI, if he/she is even a member ;)

Not sure there are many lads shooting TR in MNSCI.

Maybe if there was enough interest shown they might go long range too. I suggest you contact them and any others you might know who want long range TR should do so also. They are a decent bunch of lads/ladies and I'm sure if they can accomodate you they will.

Just after checking the NRAI webite and they have updated the event discriptions. Here is the updated list with what is open and not.

ezridax is kinda right. If the competition doesn't have the distances or disciplines to suit you, then you're entirely correct - Don't waste your journey. Although, I would have thought that some TR shooting at 500 and 600yd would be a good bit of practice!:D
I cannot believe they can run F-class short & long range but wont run TR alongside it

I'd say the issue is more the number of firing points and targets available - Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't TR shot at a totally different target than F-Open and F/TR? So, I'm confused, surely they'd not be able to "run alongside" each other, unless there was a considerable number of targets available - I think the max on the Windmill range is 12 targets, but I may be wrong, and am happy to stand corrected.
    Doesn’t make any sense.mad.gifmad.gifmad.gif

    Why all the anger?:D:rolleyes:

It may be (and this is merely my own supposition) that not enough TR shooters have shown an interest on the range or been in contact in order to give the organisers enough of a reason to think that a TR / Palma competition would be viable or fully subscribed to - I for one would be delighted to see more Fullbore TR / Palma shooters in Midlands on a regular basis (Mainly for selfish reasons, as it's a discipline I'd be very interested in taking up myself, and if more shooters were around for me to ask questions of and generally pester for information, I'd be delighted:o:)).

Could I suggest that you contact the NRAI or JP Craven directly (I'm not sure who's coordinating the TR side of things, so JP might be a good place to start), if you haven't already done so?

That said, the more disciplines shooting the better IMHO:cool:

    Classic chicken & egg situation.

Midlands don't see much sign of interest from T/R shooters, so they put in a token match because it's a core ICFRA discipline and they feel they ought to. In doing so they restrict it to 600yds thereby giving up one of their advantages over Ballykinler.

T/R shooters see one small event & don't think it's worth going to, and it's not Open anyway.

    Impasse.

I think the onus is probably, on balance, with the NGB to try to break this, as they are the ones with the primary responsibility for the promotion of the sport. I wouldn't see this Championship as the time to resolve this. If I was them I'd consider running one or two Open events during the year with some decent shooting for T/R and see if the shooters come.

I thought it was shot on exactly the same target, but for F-Class scored one point lower per ring & with the little white "V" ring, precisely so it can be run alongside.

    They are for short range.

I think their frames may not be big enough for long range T/R(?)

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 28,697 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cass

The target boards for T/R shooting would be fine for 600 or under, but not large enough to suit any further distance. However with the building of the new 1200yd range (within the next 3 months or so) and a new 20 (or so) pully target board system all current and prospective T/R shooters will be well accomodated for.

In the mean time may i suggest that all T/R shooters interested come on down to the range, look around, talk to the necessary people, have a coffee. See what is being done to further their sporting needs.

Remember its an open door policy, all are welcome.

I was unsure of what the entry requirements were, so I contacted NRAI, and received the info, so for anyone else who's wondering....

Competitions are open to anyone with Insurance and a valid Cert for your firearm.
They've updated the website with this too.

    Glad I can partake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 540 ✭✭✭dos29

Looks like I just got excited and didn't read all of the print.
Only certain comps are OPEN to non NRAI members. Cant shoot the big boy comps that I wanted to after all.
Anyone know how difficult it is to become a member? Is there any sort of remote chance of doing so by Saturday?
I've sent an e-mail to NRAI also, but the last response took a week so wondering if anyone here has any idea?

You can be a member if already a member of an affiliated club, but i also think individual memberships are taken.

This i don't know. Time scale is a bit short.

May i suggest ringing JP Craven, Chairman of the MNSCI. He would have an integral part in the NRAI comp this weekend and may be able to provide you with quick and accurate information. You may even be able to shoot if you get sorted quick enough. His number is on the MNSCI website.

Will be there myself both days. Looking forward to it!

    Planning on shooting the 500, 600, 800, & 900yd F/TR and the 100yd Smallbore "F-Class" - And maybe the 1000yd Benchrest, if the ammo doesn't run out!:D

Would also like do the 50 & 300m Benchrest events too - but kinda clashes for me, so will give them a miss this time round. All-in-all it's gonna be a busy and eventful weekend - Just hope the weather holds and we get good conditions!;)

BTW Anyone planning to shoot in the TR events? Would be interested in watching that and seeing what it's like up close.

What's the story with the pistol competition? No mention of it on the timetable on the website. But there is further down the document. Is it .22 or Centerfire? What discipline?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 28,697 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cass

Just after getting some info this morning. If you intend to shoot in any of the shoots this weekend you can e-mail your name, discipline choice through the NRAI website or by using info@nrai.ie and then simply bring your completed entry form and relevant fee with you on the day.

This will allow the lads to get the details for each shoot prepared in advance and cut down on delays on the day. In the subject bar of the e-mail just type in "Choices for 2010 nationals". My advice would be to keep the e-mail short and to the point as they may be receiving alot. So name, then the shoots you are entering in point form.

    Hope this helps.
