Pretty much speculating but so are Sony as they are basically hoping it fixes itself as well.

Agreed. Personally I think the chances are very high the problem fixes itself. I think it stands to reason. Then again, we could be wrong and this is a very real problem that won't correct itself and the Sony Elves are frantically working away to fix it..... or much more likely, playing solitaire and glancing up at the clock every few minutes waiting for 12.00am like the rest of us.

At about 11.50 I am going to go get some popcorn and a glass of coke and sit back... and watch :D. This should be better than any Tom Cruise film ever, except Cocktail obviously.

true! i think we need to remember that we are assuming that they reckon its gonna be magic-ed at 12 tonite. who knows. i would be delighted if it did but on the other hand i would be sort of laughing at sony for not just holding their hands up and saying; you know what we screwed up but its going to be back soon/by midnite ..... one thing for sure, whatever the cause/solution/timescale that they are definitely gonna be doin lots of damage limitation !!!

What about all the users who removed the BIOS battery and were then able to log on to PSN????

It is a software problem in the BIOS clock but it only effects leap year dates that cause it to make up a date that can't exist. Tomorrow will be a possible date and will end the confusion in the software. The glitch will still be there and will need to be fixed.

I imagine there will be an update alongside the next general firmware update to ensure it doesn't happen again. Very embarassing. Would be nice to see Sony give the community something free for its troubles.

    Its ALIVE!!

Just got me thinking, this is just what happens when a sh1t load of PS3s crash from a date related software bug.

Imagine if Y2K actually happened on the scale of "those in the know" said it would. No internet, no air travel, no hospital equipment. The world would end up back in the stone age. Complete world wide chaos over an extra two decimal places. As they say in the IT world, put cr@p in get cr@p out.

if that is true then it will go on to 2morros date and it ill be fine .but i fear there is still trouble ahead for when to access the data that was saved on the day that it ****ed up.

they will have to send out an update to get it to the right date

We are assuming its going to be magic'd better cause of the Zune thing or whatever that went dodgy for a day and then came back (I think) I don't know the details but people are saying that it happened before.

T-Minus 19 minutes untill PSN becomes the new Skynet... I'm gonna have a hammer at the ready!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

The internet lied to me and made me check my game... I had to get up.. Change the game... Get the controller... Press the PS buton... Go to the game... and then it didn't work.

    God damn you internet.
