If there are any Communication Students interested in writing, storyboarding, scriptwriting, comedy or drama give me a PM.

There's a scriptwriting group night tomorrow in CG01 at 5pm, come along if you like it's very casual and laid back should be good fun. We're hoping to write lots of sketches and put together scripts for short films.

    Oooo college starts tomorrow, odd.

Sounds good! I'm interested in Script writing, well the idea anyway! I have no idea where CG01 is though, no idea where anything is actually ...

If I remember correctly, to get to CG01 head in the building opposite the main resteraunt (you know, you go under the area that is roofed off) and then go through the doors to your left. Boom. There you have it!

Ahh thank you :)! I have no idea where the restaurant is but I'm sure it's easier than finding the building! I've only been on the campus about twice, thankfully I like it :p

The building where you registered, was that the Grattan? A place with vending machines and sofas? It was last year anyway.

If it was, go there. To get to CG01 from there you just keep going straight right to the end of the long corridor of classrooms until you reach the other end then go left.

It's easier to go this longer way until you get to know the grattan a bit better, there's like 5 different entrances.

Don't worry if you get lost, it's a big square so you'll find it eventually.

The first two floors or the henry gratten are set up with the corridors going in a circle, just week walking till you see the room your looking for.

Yeah wasn't so complicated in the end! Seriously though... the history of the smiley face?! Please tell me it gets better cos right now everyone else seems to be really interested in learning graveyard symbols whereas I'm sitting there thinking why am I sat in a lecture learning something I could read in 5 minutes and know just as much about. I know give it time give it time... Just some of the stuff seems so pointless and obvious.

    Hi!
I'm wondering about doing communications next year. i was just wondering what are your options to do after the course like is there any further study you can do or what jobs you can get?
    thanks :)

    I'll take this one:pac:

Well in terms of study options after the course there are plenty of post grad's and masters courses available, such as TV and film studies, radio and TV, journalism, international communications, Public Relations, Photography etc.

Personally, I think doing a masters after the degree is vital to having a chance of securing a job. After all, these kind of jobs definitely do not just fall into your lap. Anyone in Communications will tell you that its all about getting involved with the college newspaper, radio station and media society.

The media and communications industry is possibly one of the most competitive working industries out there today. It's quite likely that you won't get the job you want straight away after you leave college and you might have to work very hard for a few years afterwards to get it. But, if you really want it and your passionate enough, you'll get it eventually.

Communications is a very enjoyable course if you're interested in media and almost makes you feel that you are just having fun instead of getting a university degree, which is a big plus in my opinion.

    Good luck with your decision:)

People throw around phrases like "the course is what you make of it". I suppose that is a true statement because 80 - 90 % of what you learn in CS is complete nonsense that will in no way enhance your employment credentials. However, through DCUfm and MPS you will get experience and make contacts in fields that could land you a job in the future.

Make sure you know what you're in for.
