    Growlithe
    Kangkashan
    Murkrow
    Nidoking
    Luxray

Haven't come across a Krabby as yet in Heartgold (i'm not very far into it) but I would like to add him one of them to my roster. I prefer a team of 8 consistently trainned and then carry four at a time. I do have an opening for an 8th...

Anyone got recommendations for a good Breloom moveset for in-game play in Sapphire actually? I'm working with Sky Uppercut, Leech Seed, Bullet Seed and Headbutt. Bullet Seed needs to go, I was thinking maybe Toxic or Giga Drain in its place...?

Also, gonna replace Gyrados. I'm thinking either Sharpedo or Walrein. Thoughts?

A strong dark type: Psychic trainer.
Evolve that Murkrow and bring a fire type to beat Jynx and she will freeze the **** out of your bird.

Then a Psychic type for the next two: Poison and Fighting trainers.

Forth is a Dark Trainer: Grab your Machamp and train him, they canhave very powerful attacks if trained right.
Koga, the second trainer, uses a Skuntank first which is(I think) a Dark/Poison cross so I use a fighting move on it then get on with sweeping the floor with Psychic attacks.

For Lance the first time I can't remember who I used.
Every other time I've gone through though, it goes like this.

Dragonite out first, Outrage takes out the first two, maybe three Pokémon if I'm lucky.
If Garchomp isn't taken out by outrage, I take out my own Garchomp and use Dragon rush, done.
Gyarados then, Magnezone slaps him with a Thunder bolt.
    Dragonite=Tyranitar, Stone edge t'****!
Then Charizard comes out last, Stone edge again.
    Easy! :)
Only Dagonite ever takes a hit, Salamance is quicker than him bu his Dragone Claw only takes about three quarters of his health, then all hell is unleashed.

Alteria always comes after Salamance but as long as he doesn't get to use Perish song*, you're fine.

*I'm assuming that's what he'd use that, he's never had the chance to attack!:D

    My team is usually:
    Tyranitar: Dark/Rock
Metagross: Steel/Phychic and knows Hammer arm
    Dragonite: Dragon/Flying
    Garchomp: Dragon/Ground
    Magnezone: Steel/Electric.
Who ever I'm training evolve, not for use.
Quick and easy EXP to level up for the DEX.

Well, I'll put my guys up.

    Platinum Team:

    Infernape (Prometheus) - Lv.62
    Luxray (Hyperion) - Lv.61
    Sharpedo (Tethys) - Lv.61
    Gallade (Kronos) - Lv.61
    Garchomp (Gaia) - Lv.60
    Staraptor (Theia) - Lv.60

    SoulSilver Team:

    Typhlosion (Typhon) - Lv. 55
    Luxray (Elektra) - Lv.53
    Kingdra (Calliope) - Lv.49
    Espeon (Morpheus) - Lv.52
    Umbreon (Thanatos) - Lv.48
    Krobat (Charon) - Lv.45

I am, however, about to change my SS team, as Krobat annoys the hell outta me. But I need him to Fly, and I can't find any good fliers at all. And I don't use Legendaries out of principle, or I'd be using Articuno.

    May restart SS actually...

Soulsilver team - going for my 8th badge

    Typhlosion - Level 40
    Lava Plume
    Swift
    Flame Wheel
    Quick Attack

    Haunter - Level 40
    Hypnosis
    Dream Eater
    Shadow Punch
    Shadow Ball

    Gyarados - Level 40
    Ice Fang
    Dragon Rage
    Surf
    Aqua Tail

    Electabuzz - Level 40
    Discharge
    Thunder Wave
    Thunder Punch
    Swift

Thinking of adding a fifth member, maybe Lapras, Umbreon or Tangela.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

With the Gyrados and the Electabuzz at those levels you'll probably walk it...
Well, the physica side of things anyway....

I hardly post in here as I've long passed the story mode, but I still work on teams, mostly doubles. Here's a few ideas I have, bearing in mind VGC rules (which I have been running on for the last few months):

    Smeargle @ Focus Sash/Choice Scarf
    • Dark Void/Spore
    • Protect
    • Imprison
    • Transform
Clefable @ Focus Sash/Toxic Orb (item depends on Smeargle)
    • Follow Me
    • Helping Hand
    • BoltBeam (Thunderbolt & Ice Beam - Filler moves)
    Palkia @ Haban Berry
    • Spacial Rend/Earth Power
    • Thunder
    • Fire Blast/Flamethrower
    • Blizzard
    Kyorge @ Choice Scarf
    • Water Spout
    • Thunder
    • Blizzard
    • Muddy Water
another variation of that team is, the Trick Room plan:

    Clefable @ Focus Sash
    • Follow Me
    • Helping Hand
    • BoltBeam (Thunderbolt & Ice Beam - Filler moves)
    Palkia @ Haban Berry
    • Spacial Rend/Earth Power
    • Thunder
    • Trick Room
    • Blizzard
    Kyorge @ Choice Specs/Wise Glasses
    • Water Spout
    • Thunder
    • Blizzard
    • Muddy Water
    Obamasnow @ Life Orb
    • Blizzard
    • Grass Knot
    • Ice Shard
    • Shadow Ball
Of course there is the dream team of:

    Azelf @ Focus Sash
    • Thunderbolt
    • Explosion
    • Protect/Trick Room
    • Imprison
    Kyorge @ Choice Specs/Choice Scarf
    • Water Spout
    • Thunder
    • Blizzard
    • Muddy Water

    Palkia @ Choice Specs/Choice Scarf
    • Spacial Rend/Earth Power
    • Thunder
    • Fire Blast/Flamethrower
    • Blizzard
    Eh...Garchomp? @ Choice Scarf/Choice Band
    • Earthquake
    • Rock Slide/Stone Edge
    • Outrage
    • Eh...Protect?
I prefer not to use Ubers as they tend to dominate the game, damn you VGC!

Just beat Jasmine in HG. It's weird, I got three badges yesterday but it feels like my team didn't progress or level up at all, so they seem a bit low-level for the stage I'm at somehow.

    Bayleef - lv 23
    Growlithe - lv 20
    Gastly - lv 22
    Gyrados - lv 26
    Flaafy - lv 28
    Onix - lv 19
    Machop - lv 22

[last two are the in-game trades, so I should be able to level them up pretty quickly if needs be]

It just feels wrong, taking on a level 35 Steelix with my little baby level ~20 team.

At the moment my SS team consists of:

Froslass - lv.34 (currently being trained)
    Togekiss - lv.48
    Milotic - lv.58
    Tyranitar - lv.62
    Lucario - lv.65
    Rayquaza - lv.100

Just beat Red on Mt. Silver. He absolutely destroyed my team up until Rayquaza. I forgot how strong he was. But some carefully timed full restores, outrages and extremespeeds got me the win. T'was hard though as nearly all his pokémon know blizzard, which tended to nearly KO Rayquaza :(

Oh and btw, I picked Squirtle from Prof. Oak :)

Just beat Lt. Surge for my 9th badge:

    Haunter - Lv 46
    Electabuzz - Lv 50
    Gyarados - Lv 47
    Typhlosion - Lv 48

Taken a break from the main quest to do some of the battle frontier stuff so i could start EV training for the first time.
Had two dratini's, male and female, one with 31 IVs in speed and special attack and one with 29 IVs in attack.
Used the power items so i know the hatched dratini has the IV's i want (29 attack and 31 speed).
Then it took about 20/30 hatches until i got a few that the guy in the battle tower said have "fantastic" or "outstanding" ability or whatever it is he says. I'm happy enough knowing that at a minimum, the other 4 stats average around 23 IV. It's my first go at this, so i don't want to get much more detailed than that.
But i can not get the nature i want. So i've decided to stick with a naive nature for my own sanity, because i haven't the patience to wait for an adamant or Jolly.

What would be a good EV spread for a Dragonite? 252 speed, 252 att, 4 hp?

Ask not what a good spread is, but what you need it to achieve. Tank, Physical Sweeper, Special Sweeper or mixed Sweeper? The spreads will be different.

well . . . i'm fairly new to this, but i guess Dragonite's 134 base attack would make it a good physical sweeper?

That's fine too, we all had to start some time :)

Dragonite also has a base 100 Sp.A, that's not to be sniffed at

It really depends if you want to go all Physical or all Special on it or surprise your opponent with a little mix move in there. It doesn't have to be your first choice of a move, but time it right and it could pay off well.

    A set like:
    Dragonite @ Focus Sash/Life Orb
    • Draco Meteor
    • Dragon Dance
    • Earthquake
    • Superpower
EVs: 4 HP, 252Spd, the rest in A and SA

...could work well on a Dragonite, see what works and doesn't work on your party. Have fun and play around it moves and ideas :)

Looks like it won't be as long and drawn out a process as i thought. My Gyarados just got infected with Pokerus!

Grab yourself a set of "Power" (Power Belt, Power Lens etc) items from the Battle Frontier/Tower. These will really help cut down on EV training time

Ok, I restarted, replayed and am deciding on my final team and movesets. I'm fairly happy with my team (movesets will be modified before I go into competetive battles, the current ones are mostly to help me get around/catch Pokés). What's the opinions?

    Feraligatr/ Oceanus
Waterfall, Hydro Cannon, Ice Fang, Scary Face

    Typhlosion/ Typhon
    Flamethrower, Blast Burn, Strength, Smokescreen

    Luxray/ Eos
    Thunder Fang, Discharge, Crunch, Flash

    Gallade/ Hyperion
Psycho Cut, Rock Smash, Leaf Blade, Swagger

    Glaceon/ Asperia
Ice Beam, Icy Wind, Shadow Ball, Hail

    Salamence/ Theia
    Dragon Claw, Crunch, Fly, Cut

I'm especially looking for advice on movesets. I want to ditch the HM moves as soon as I beat Red. I realise I can't even get to him with the current moves, but I'll deal with that when the time comes, probably replace Hydro Cannon with Surf and one of Typhon's moves with Rock Climb.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,906 ✭✭✭✭whatawaster

    Just beat Red.

Dragonite - Lv 70 (Dragon Dance, Outrage, Aqua Tail, Wing Attack)

Gengar - Lv 62 (Hypnosis, Dream Eater, Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball)

Tyranitar (late addition!) - Lv 60 (Stone Edge, Earthquake, Crunch, Dark Pulse)

Typhlosion - Lv 61 (Eruption, Flamethrower, Earthquake, Quick Attack)

Electabuzz - Lv 64 (Rock Climb, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Swift)

I was prepared to have to use Dragonite to kill of 3/4 of his, but it turned out i just needed to drag him out to deal with Charizard at the end.

Tyranitar dealt with Pikachu with one Earthquake
    Typhlosion dealt with Venusaur
    Electabuzz dealt with Lapras
    Electabuzz (hero) dealt with Blastoise
Electabuzz and Gengar dealt with Snorlax
    Dragonite finished the job.

Right, well maybe a little bit of an update on my new HG team (i.e. the legit one :P)

    239MS.pngLucozade, the Elekid. Lv19
    Docile/Static
    Shock Wave/Swift/Low Kick/Thunderpunch
    240MS.pngSunburn, the Magby. Lv20
    Lax/Flame Body
    Faint Attack/Smokescreen/Ember/Sunny Day
    176MS.pngFlinch Hax, the Togetic. Lv23
    Lonely/Serene Grace
    Sweet Kiss/Encore/Extrasensory/Metronome
    093MS.pngDyslexia, the Haunter. Lv25
    Naive/Levitate
    Hypnosis/Shadow Punch/Sucker Punch/Confuse Ray
    153MS.pngHayfever, the Bayleef. Lv25
    Mild/Overgrow
    Headbutt/Reflect/Magical Leaf/Poisonpowder

Just beat Morty, with Flinch Hax again raping his team :P
Also, very surprised when Togepi evolved at only Level 19, only having the Soothe Bell attached for one level! I guess the Pokéwalker really does help with happiness...

Really do need a Water-type, so probably going to go use Bill's Eevee and take a Vaporeon with me. I would take Slowpoke -> Slowking, but it really is too slow, and plus Flinch Hax is good enough with the Psychic type moves as it is...

Grinding to take on the Elite 4.

    Meganium - lv 39
    Gyrados - lv 40
Growlithe - lv 45 (have Fire Stone)
    Ampharos - lv 43
    Haunter - lv 40

Was going to use Ho-oh as my sixth but now I'm thinking I might raise an Espeon :/

    God, it's been a while.
Right, add An attack boosting, exploding Shiftry to my team, along with a Galade in training and I evolved a Shelder there today because I saw the Pokémon of the week. I'm after a Starmie next.

Spellings are likely to be wrong, I'm tired, hi bed... Goodnight! :)

Hey all, I'm new to this forum :D

I recently bought HeartGold (never played the original Gen II games :() and I was hoping for some ideas for movesets for my pokémon (they currently suck). My current team looks like this:

    Flareon: Lvl 33
Moves: Quick Attack; Fire Blast; Ember; Headbutt

    Jolteon: Lvl 33
Charge Beam; Thundershock; Thunder; Double Kick

    Espeon: Lvl 33
    Quick Attack; Swift; Sand-Attack; Confusion

    Marco the Dragonair: Lvl 34
Dragon Rage; Twister; Thunder Wave; Aqua Tail

    Vaporeon: Lvl 34
    Water Gun; Surf; Bite; Sand-Attack

    Umbreon: Lvl 34
Pursuit; Shadow Ball; Helping Hand; Confuse Ray

Originally I was using a different team consisting of Bayleaf, Slowking, Haunter, Togetic, Arcanine and Sandslash but then I got drunk and training an all eeveelution team sounded like a lot of fun :P I decided not to trade from platinum to get the leafeon and glaceon though, and instead have Dragonite in the sixth slot (he just pwns :D). So that's my current team!

Just saved the Radio Tower in Goldenrod and got the Rainbow Wing.

    Togetic - Lvl 27 (Yawn/Fly/Extrasensory/Focus Punch)
    Sudowoodo - Lvl 27 (Rock Smash/Strength/Faint Attack/Dig)
    Kadabra - Lvl 28 (Drain Punch/Confusion/Reflect/Psybeam)
    Bayleef - Lvl 30 (Magical Leaf/Cut/Razor Leaf/Flash)
    (Red) Gyarados - Lvl 35 (Aqua Tail/Dragon Rage/Ice Fang/Whirlpool)
    Onix - Lvl 32 (Iron Tail/Slam/Rock Throw/Sandstorm)

..Methinks I'm gonna have to level all of these up quite a bit before I even think about going for the 8th badge...:o

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,779 ✭✭✭A Neurotic

    Just beat the Elite Four.

Ampharos lv 44 (Charge, Discharge, Signal Beam, Thunder Wave)
Arcanine lv 46 (Flamethrower, Crunch, Heat Wave, Reversal)
Meganium lv 46 (Body Slam, Light Screen, Synthesis, Petal Dance)
Gyrados lv 46 (Ice Fang, Dragon Dance, Bite, Aqua Tail)
Haunter lv 45 (Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse, Curse, Confuse Ray)
Ho-oh lv 47 (Extrasensory, Sunny Day, Fire Blast, Sacred Fire)

Tried not to use Ho-oh too much as I'm not a fan of using legendaries. Couldn't believe how easy Lance was, once Gyrados got a couple of Dragon Dances in he could OHKO all of his team!

    Yay, Kanto!

Finally got around to taking on the E4 and Champ last night. Team :

Batista - L45 Machamp @ Muscle band (Headbutt / Rock Slide / Focus Energy / Cross Chop)
Castle - L45 Charizard @ Amulet Coin (Slash / Smokescreen / Dragon Pulse / Flame Thrower)
    Shevlocke - L46 Magnezone @ Leftovers (Discharge / Thunderwave / Flash Cannon / Lockon)
Sabbath - L47 Metagross @ Twisted Spoon (Hammer Arm / Zen Headbutt / Iron Head / Iron Defense)
Bunga - L46 Cubone @ Thick Club (Focus Energy / Rock Slide / Iron Head / Earthquake)
Morrigan - L47 Honchkrow @ BrightPowder (Wing Attack / Night Slash / Haze / Night Shade)

Didn't have much of a strategy going in, but between them they completely cleaned the clocks of the E4 - had to use an Ether on Shevlocke's Discharge and a single potion on Sabbath who was the only 'mon to take damage. Thought I'd walk the champ too but it was not to be... Went down to literally the last HP, his dragonite was on vapours, Bunga had 1 HP, we both attacked and he was fastest. :(
