Trivial things that totally turn you off someone

When I fancy someone, sometimes something fairly fickle will totally kill it for me. For example guys putting knifes into their mouths to suck food off. Anyone else got something fairly innocuous that makes their heart sink and lose the buzz for someone.

I smoked a few years ago, the thought of kissing someone who has cigarette breath is a big turn off for me now.

I know it sounds a bit high and mighty since I did smoke...

Can't even stand the smell of smoke off people.

Some of my housemates smoke, and the smell of cigarette butts is just horrible as well.

    So, yeah, smoking.

On a girl's neck, if she has hair all over the place like she's just recieved an electric shock, it's just ugh.

    Hard to explain,

I hate smoking too: hate it so much that it doesn't fit the "trivial" requirement of this thread!

I'm a bit old-fashioned, in that I think the word "underwear" is to be taken literally. Under the clothes, not visible to all and sundry. It's a style thing, a sign of taste and decorum.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

She said it was just a figment of speech
And I said, "You mean figure?"
    And she said, "No, figment"
Because she could never imagine it happening
    But it did.

When we first met I played the shy boy
And when she spoke to me for the first time
    My nose began to bleed
    She guessed the rest

The next day we went on a bus ride to the ferry
And when nobody came to collect our fares
Well, I knew then this was something special
I couldn?t stop thinking about her
And every time I switched on the radio
There was somebody else singing a song about the two of us

It was just like being on a fast ride at the funfair
The sort you wanna get off because it?s scary
And then as soon as you?re off
You wanna get straight back on again

    But our love is strange
And you have to take the crunchy with the smooth I s'pose
She began going out with Mr Potato Head
It was when I saw her in the car park
With his coat around her shoulders that I realised
I went home and thought about the two of them together
Until the bath water went cold around me

I thought about her eyes and the curve of her breasts
And about the point where their bodies met
    I confronted her about it.
I said, "I?m the most illegible bachelor in town."
And she said, "Yea, that's why I can never understand
Any of those silly letters you send me."

And then one day it happened
She cut 'er hair and I stopped lovin' 'er

If she has short hair, or her hair is tied up, and you can see the 'fuzzy' hair on the back of her neck and it has static???

in a way these are two of my favourite things in a girl.. as in not addicted to drugs, but someone funky, a bit crazy... consumes a lot of chewing gum.
    And who scream a lot...
    Well that's just being greedy

Something that really turns me off is negativity. I like happy girls who really couldn't give a damn about the bad stuff.

Those are not trivial. I am talking about the inexplicabily shallow stuff that you become aware of that makes you stop fancying someone. Flaky skin on their scalp, really ugly shoes, trousers too short and wedged up their ass.

Happened once, as I got closer I seen it and pretended I needed to burp, pretended I got indigestion, excused myself, never went back.
    jealousy.

Definitely a +1 on this no matter how good looking they are!
Bad breath is a huge turnoff
Think that goes for everyone TBH :)

    WTF???

And my own. Insecurity, cold sores, jealousy, girls that are wayyyy too quiet. Sometimes the whole "I don't eat in front of boys" drives me up the wall!!! Also something I've been coming across a lot lately, cocky girls. Seriously, why?

No I really don't, I am talking early days here. With someone I really fancy the trivial things (and even bigger things) don't register at all. It is funny, when you genuinely fancy some one, their less then desirable traits are endearing. Some bad/gross things I can find quite cute. Lifes rich tapestry etc.
I do find it funny though the find of trivial things that people mention as turn-offs. Like a male friend would say women drinking pints is gross, but I think with the right woman it would not matter a jot.
I am more thinking instant crushes that stop in their tracks for something silly..with the right person that never really happens.

P.s happiness comes from within, does not depend on another person

Guys with excessive body hair freak me out esp. on their backs.

I also dislike when they have a word they overuse.
One guy i knew used the word 'seemingly' too much. It got to the point where when he said it i just wanted to rip my ears off just so i could throw them at him.

Fake tan. Not a fan of it. Or too much makeup in general.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,986 ✭✭✭Red Hand

I dunno. It's the major rather trivial things that turn me off.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,689 ✭✭✭✭OutlawPete

Even slightly being obnoxious, stuck-up or rude.

A girl could be a ten out of ten but if she has a nasty personality, instantly I would see them as ugly.

Works the other way too for me.

A girl can be very plain looking but if she has friendly eyes and genuine warmth to her personality, then suddenly I am looking at them like they are Angelina Jolie.

Being late for stuff. Even if it's just 5 minutes, I've made the effort to be there on time, and if the other person hasn't then that's something which really gets on my nerves.

Cheap cologne, smoke, bad breath... my turn-offs are smell-related. If I smell you in the night and you stink then you're not getting any...

People who scratch their holes and then sniff the hand.

Was on the Luas red recently and a chubby porker in saggy track suit bottom jams the left paw deep up her arse crack and does a bit of open face mining. Rooting the fcuker around as if the tapeworms had gone a bit postal.

Then up to the schnozzle and sniffs...

    Yeeeecht..... gross.

    Not a bother on her.
