he is a class footballer probably the best in the county , but in fairness he is a class hurler got probably only an hour in total of inter county action last year maybe less and scored something like 2-4

most players spend there entire careers trying to win an all ireland and end up with nothing......paul flanagan and niall deasy have one each despite the fact they have yet to make there inter county debut.

i would'nt worry too much about the the result yesterday but in fairness this time last year we were blooding several players that played key roles last summmer sticking to the same team every week makes no sense when the talent is there coming through

Yeah... but why didn't he get played more last year. It's probably an unpopular opinion after the AI replay, but I think McInerney is definitely a better hurler than O'Donnell... who is a good man to get a goal, but has been anonymous in way too many matches, 21 and senior, and I don't think he really stands out at Fitzgibbon either. Would rate Tots higher than him too, serious hurler.

So you've got a lad who can't even make the bench for the hurlers, when he's almost certainly good enough to be included... but he's an even better footballer and doesn't get to play for them either, it's a bit of a waste of resources.

agreed , i dont get it ether,
all though there are more then him that fall under that catogary i would imagine he is still involved in the extended pannell trying to fight for a place,

maybe davey is looking into what he sees in front of him on the trainng ground too much but even the kilkenny sopporters last week were taking back by the dessicion to play 12 or 13 of last years team so early

Cody played about six of last years team not 12 or 13.

they were taking aback at the idea that clare had 12 or 13 from last year giving the fact they had so many young lads from the 21s to throw in to the side

    Re Cathal MacInerney.
I remember seeing him in the Park start V Antrim in Div 1B in 2012? (the year Clare won promotion).
Anyway, he was beaten to a ball by the corner back who got away from him easily, made a nice few yards and drove the ball way down the field. Davy went absolutely spare and MacInerney was taken off within a few mins. My guess that day was that Davy felt MacInerney's work rate when an opposition player was in possession wasn't up to scratch.

Interestingly or maybe just coincidentally, his gametime diminished after that.

From talking to a few Cratloe people, some within that club rate him as a better finisher than Conor McGrath, high praise indeed. Also a club-mate of my own says that MacInerney is harder to mark than McGrath as MacInerney's movement is very difficult to follow/guess.

good win today for the footballers against a very predictable and old fashioned wicklow on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-8

garry brennan was far and above the best player on the pitch and dominated midfield all day, wicklow had there best player leighton glynn sent off after 5 mins for an off the ball incident and struggled badly without him, dispite having a strong wind behind them they found themselves a point down at half time thanks to a goal from brennan and a host of scores from david tubridy

2nd half was much more one sided with clare holding a four to five point lead for most of the second half until shane brennan scored clare's second goal to finish the game off with 15 mins to go

the most pleasing aspect of the game was the performance of the clare defenders in perticular the 3 killmurry ibricane players shane hickey marty mcmahon and enda coughlan along with gordan kelly they were rock solid , although wicklow were no real great shakes themselves the were totaly reliant on long balls they won very little in the air , and for the last 20 mins clare ran rings around them as the fitness showed through

tippeary next week will be a far tougher task but a win in thurles will almost guarantee promotion with two games to go

Gary Brennan was immense I thought and took down almost all the kick outs. We could have racked up a lot more scores I thought if we moved the ball a small bit quicker into attack. Good display overall though and Clare always looked in control with most of the possession. What happened in the off the ball incident? I was at the park but didn't see it happening.

If they beat Tipp then they should be going up as they will definitely beat Carlow in Cusack Park. It's just the Antrim game in Belfast left then and hopefully promotion will be secured at that stage. I don't fancy us having to go to Casement Park needing to win

i didnt see it ether but reports on the radio afterwards said it was harsh, it was only 5 or 6 mins into the game you would imagine most ref''s would award a yellow, the wicklow gaa usually put up highlights of there games on youtube so it will be interesting to watch it back if i can find the link i will put it up here before the end of the week

i would'nt like to go there ether needing a result but how good or bad are they realy if the lost by 4 points at home to wicklow. tippeary are clares hardest game left in my opinion and if there county bord and more importantly the suporters got behind them a bit more they would be atleast 1 if not 2 divisons higher,

on paper they are better then anything in this division ant they hammered clare in cusack park last year , the down side for tip is they dont seem as intrested ether and the draw against a very poor waterford will come back to haunt them yet, then again it is hard to blame them when the entire county dont seem to care about them dispite all there under age success,

i heard that 85 ( EIGHTY FIVE) people turned up to one of there league games last year i think it was carlow at semple stadium which in my opinion is a total disgrace and shameful on any county board for lack of promotion

At least they have some bit of a crowd watching the end of the football game next Sunday as they will be coming in for the hurling afterwards!

id say you would have no problem finding a seat near the halfway line half way through the 2nd half if that figure is as accurate as i think , i taught the crowed was smaller then normal today in the park was surprised to hear there was over 1200 anounced over the P.A system

that would make more sense however 500 in such a big stadium would still seem lonesome

but for what most of them have achieved at under age and for all the work that was put in they deserved better support especially when they reached division 2 that time

There's been a switcharoo for next Sunday's double header.
Hurling game now throwing in at 1.15. Football on after.

Just wondering what ye Clare fellas think of Davy Fitz's comments that have come out today? I'm not looking to stir up trouble, just interested to see what ye think. Would he have been better to let sleeping dogs lie?

In my opinion he's looking too much at the past and seems to be trying to stir things up way too much, his comments for LIT after they beat UL were a bit much as well I thought, especially as Brian Lohan was his opposition manager. I'd much prefer if he stayed out of the papers and concentrated on Clare, but I suppose that's too much to expect when he's over LIT as well.

Since he won the AI he's been in the news a lot between one thing and another. It's gone to his head a little bit maybe? I can't remember who was Clare manager during the time he is referring to but I don't think he will be too happy with Davy.

Sparrow, Mike Mac, Considine, lot of managers. Maybe even Daly.

Some man to talk about bullying when you recall the stuff he was caught on Mic shouting at the Limerick lads the day Clare gave them a drubbing in Cusack park. If that wasn't bullying what is? Maybe he has grown up a little since.

Just an outside opinion - I would be very disappointed and disgusted if I were involved with the group who allegedly used over indulged in alcohol and drugs. Also it appears to me that he is too self centred, too much talk of me and I. Most especially so in relation to the All Ireland success. I watched with much admiration the terrific brand of hurling played by the Clare players at minor and under 21. However I have never heard him compliment the relevant management teams who in effect developed this latest Clare hurling style. It was obvious when he reverted back to this style that the summer took off for Clare.

Yeah that's true. He never once gave credit to the Clare U-21 coaches of the last few years. He seems quite happy to take all the credit for himself.

Davy should stick to being a manager. Like so many who come across some success, it goes to their heads!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

I'm getting a bit sick of Davy tbh, but maybe that's what you want- an infuriating manager who takes the heat of his players, allowing them to focus on the game.

And if he draws the ire of fans of every other county, he can create a siege mentality, us vs them. I used to kinda like him, but I'd happy if he never won anything else again now, he's becoming a bit unbearable.

But yeah, if it works, it works.

At the moment all he's doing is creating a siege mentality amongst everyone else wanting to beat Clare.
