Referee was a little bit fussy but no excuses for that amount of frees given away , the level of wides hit from midfield and worse still the half backline is worrying

I would far prefer players be encouraged to play a diagonal ball into the corners and start an attack from there rather hitting a hail mary wide from your own half , the galway module of the last 4 or 5 years would be my example . With conlon opperating in the full forward possition

Reidy is having an excellent league and had another fine outing again today while shane O'Donnell has nominated himself with a goal of the year effort and a super finish

In the first half we had 9 different scorers which was a descent spread but only 5 points in the entire second half was not good enough

We were much the better team but Kilkenny are going in the right direction some good young lads coming through especially the likes of young Murphy , they will never go away for as long as cody has them and can be happy with there second half performance

    This is a farcical statement
Kilkenny got frees in the first half which were ridiculous. Consider the way o donnell is held and compare that to the frees McGrath gave yesterday

re playing the ball in direct that's all well and good but the three in the full forward line didn't win a lot of good ball hit in to them

There was a huge amount of wild pot shots out the field that drifted wide especially in the second half

McGrath is a fussy referee and was very frustrating yesterday but we gave away a number of soft ones ourselves in scoring possitions ,

Any word on how the Clare Under-17 hurlers and footballers are getting on ahead of their respective Munster Championship campaigns? Will there be any dual players involved in both squads. Anyone with info on both teams would be greatly appreciated.

because of the new set up of u17 rather then 18s the hurlers will lose most of last years team as a result , there is a number of duel players involved as nether footballers or hurlers have fully cut there panels

because i dont know enough about other counties panels at this level i cant fully say how well we will do , but what i hear from the hurling side is we are well capable of getting back to a munster final this year

this time last year we were complaining about two or 3 injuries for the footballers as they lined out against down , there are 9 players missing from that game this time last year throw in the injured subs darragh nagle and seanie malone and we hit double figures in players missing from the panel

colm collins has stuck to the same side which collapsed in the second half against meath last week , where everything that could go wrong went wrong , hopefully home advantage will restore some pride in performance and be enough to finally get one over tipperary who have defeated us 5 times in the last 6 years and every meeting before that since 1992

only bright sparks to take form navan was our midfield especially Brennan, who on his own was excellent , david tubridy returned from an injury so may see action again while newcomer aarron fitzgearld didnt have the worst outing out of all the backs the last day cillian brennan also was having a descent outing before being substituted in the first half with injury

if fitness levels have improved from last week we have a chance , another defeat would not be the end of the world but another heavy defeat for such a young team would not be good for confidence and would lead us to relegation territory something i thing we can avoid if we can get one or two more players back from injury in time

most of this team is under 22 so plenty of time to develop the players and no need to panic just yet ;)

Match between Clare v Tipp goes ahead in Cusack Park for the moment. Fair dues to be fair to the county board for the work they have done with the pitch over the last few years. Not easy considering the river fergus in close proximity so well done to all for improving the standard of the pitch in Clare's county town.

The match itself is one that I am genuinely worried about. Tipp are a quality outfit and while they failed to see out the game against Roscommon last Sunday, when you look at Sweeney, Quinlivan and McGrath up front, they are a match for anyone in the country bar Dublin perhaps.

Clare were desperate against Cavan and were a lot worse v Meath. That second half capitulation against the Royal county where they conceded 15 points in the second 35 mins was embarrassing to say at least. I still honestly think that a lot of very good players in Clare are not committing to the county team. Therefore for the reasons that I have suggested I go for Tipp by 6 points or more.

It is currently snowing as of 10:58 this morning. Quite biblical at the moment as just a few mins earlier it was hailstones like cats and dogs so certainly no guarantees this game going ahead in Ennis today.

Absolute disgrace that this ref was allowed to ref in a division 2 match. The red card call on Jamie Malone was so infuriating plus the David Tubridy black card. It appeared to be a push on the Tipp maor foirne (I think - sorry about the poor Irish) after the ball went out of play for a Clare lineball.

Referees I know have it tough. But boy their make themselves vulnerable too with such outrageous and ridiculous decisions. What was the story with one man needing medical treatment during the 2nd half? Why was the match not stopped?.

Clare were heroic and brave. That is all you could ask from a team regardless of performance. Shooting needs to improve though. But the headlines will go to such an incompetent ref. That is a real downer of what was an entertaining match without the real quality of course.

neither team played anywhere near there best but given the conditions it was an exciting game none the less , both teams battled hard in winter olympic like conditions with several haill sleet or snow showers hampering the game

this was a game that was there for the taking for clare but we did ourselves no favors in front of goal

the ref how ever will be the main talking point and while jamie malone was probably harshly sent off for running into tipperary selector shane stapleton the tipp man is recovering in hospital after the collision ,who we wish a speedy recovery

there was no malice in it but the reff at the time was instructed to do so by his linesman , in open play however mayo man Jerome henry was miles out of his depth and should not be considered at this level any time soon

in no way is this sour grapes from a clare mans point of view , we had the chances to win the game and failed to take them

but positives were plenty , the performance of sean o'donahue and keelan sexton were a highlight , david tubridy made a comeback which is vital for our survival , also defencive displays by ciarian russell and pearse lillis were massively improved from last week in navan

a repeat performance in newry in two weeks time will have us in the mix once again but it is now clear what clare need to do and win there next two home games in order to stay up in this incredibly tight division

    K Sexton 0-3, 0-1 free
    E Cleary 0-2 f,
    P Lillis 0-2 ;
    K Malone, 0-1
    G Brennan, 0-1
    C Russell 0-1
    J Malone 0-1

highlight of the game will be on tg4 tomorrow night

managerial interviews after the game from clare tv

I would like to send my best wishes to Tipp selector Shane Stapleton who has gone to hospital after an incident in Cusack Park. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. It puts everything into perspective and I hope that it is nothing too serious.

A disgrace what the Clare player did to the Tipp selector - I know he didn't intentionally wish to injure the Tipp man. He will get a much bigger match ban for interfering with an official of the opposing team.

can you clarify what happened , from the clare camp i hear that malone ran into stapleton , while a tipp supporter has informed me that malone threw the selector to the ground

the only people that should be commentating on this should be the people that actually saw the incident , given the fact stapleton was rushed to hospital with a head injury

i have been made aware that one particular radio station have been making noise about the issue , , if malone is at fault i expect a long suspension for his troubles

but i dont want to hear ideal speculation from anyone on the issue until we hear more on stapletons condition at the very least

Okay, I take your point on board. I read about it on the42.ie. I was not at the game. Clare FM didn't mention the incident in the 5 o'clock sports segment. Hope the Tipp man makes a speedy recovery.

I have my own views regarding the Stapleton incident. However as windy shepard henderson rightly said no one, including me will not comment more on it until we get a clearer indication on Shane's condition. It is his well being that should be the concern of all GAA supporters this evening. I've had a decent view of this incident as I said, but will give more once we get more clarity on his condition.

Very vaild points made by Liam Kearns and journalist Peter O'Connell on twitter this evening about no ambulance on site in Cusack Park for the entire game and taking an age for one to come for Shane Stapleton. Kearns expressed his "disappointment" over this delay.

O'Connell made another good point about player welfare and how the powers that be in GAA are turning an blind eye on this most important of issues. Today is another example of the lack of desire to put player welfare as a top priority by the administrators of the GAA. I hope that this year's GAA congress can introduce new measures to ensure that it should be mandatory for an ambulance to be present for all inter-county league and championship matches in light of what happened to Shane.

J@ysus I don't know how that would be possible, today there was 8 football matches and 1 horse racing meeting, that's 9 ambulances that would need to be "tied" up at sporting events, I'd imagine there would be many more ambulances on service for the whole country

there needs to be some sort of shannon doc/ order of malta or whatever on duty for a game at this level some form of transport anyway , your talking about an area where there is in the region of 1500 people and a physical sport taking place surly there should be something in place

most factories or large scale business's have emergency vechicals in place , for all the money county boards have should they not have something similar

Thankfully it appears that Shane Stapleton is doing fine. Thank God for that.

The incident itself started when the ball went over the line for what looked like a Clare ball. Jamie Malone definitely bundled Stapleton over although it seemed to me that it was it was just some handbag push, nothing too hard was my first reaction to it. Malone wanted the ball, since he felt that Clare would have the advantage of the line ball. But it seemed that Stapleton was just standing his ground although my gut feeling was that he wasn't trying to cause any friction. It was just a coincidence that he was just there to be at the part of the pitch where the incident took place.

The next thing that happened was the linesman and ref discussed the type of action to take on Malone. However when Malone yelled "oh my God" I think everyone at the venue knew what was to come next. A red card. David Tubridy also got a black card for protesting. Although it appeared that Malone apologized to both Stapleton and the ref before the card was issued.

I was just taking my seat after the incident. A few mins later I saw some young lads in the stand sitting close to me saying "what the ****". So I stood to see what was happening and I saw Stapleton lying on the ground. It appeared that he was unconscious for a while. He must have hit the ground quite hard. It seemed that he was okay at first but then collapsed. There were people around him looking quite concerned trying their best to help him. Eventually a stretcher appeared. However as I said last night, according to Liam Kearns and Peter O'Connell it took some time before the ambulance arrived. Unacceptable would be under-statement for this delay.

So what to make of it all. Firstly it looks like Shane Stapleton is okay but was kept in hospital overnight as a precaution. Great news. Secondly Jamie Malone looks in big trouble. Regardless of how soft or hard he bundled Stapleton, the authorities will be and should be quite hard on the Corofin man. If player welfare is to be taken seriously then Malone should face a long ban. I know people will say it was accidental and all that. But players should think twice and take responsibility for their actions rather than churning out the excuse of " it was heat of the moment stuff". Malone falls into that category.

That was my version as I see it. I will be interested to see if other posters have a different opinion of what happened.

At every match there'd be access to a medical room and 2 doctors (1 for each team) as well other medical people like physios

the reporting of this on national media has been very poor if the version here by a journalist who was at the game is to be believed

    https://www.nationalist.ie/news/sport/296526/tipp-footballers-very-fortunate-to-get-draw-against-clare.html

Bizzarrely the game took a huge turn in the 40th minute. Clare wing-forward Jamie Malone clumsily collided (with no intent) into Tipperary selector Shane Stapleton along the sideline, causing the Golden/Kilfeacle man to fall heavily to the ground. Malone immediately apologised to Stapleton who was quickly back on his feet and the game seemed to restart.

From initial reports it seemed like it appeared like the Clare player was harshly treated but tg4 footage does not put it in a good light.

It was reckless and dangerous and certainly warranted a red card

He obviously didnt mean to inflict the damage he did, but I think he could be in big trouble a 3-6 month ban wouldnt suprise me at all, its a bit of a hot topic with the big wigs at the minute and they will want to nip it in the bud, probably a little harsh on Malone that he will be the sacrificial lamb if you like but he was in the wrong going by the footage I seen.

2-match ban, and 4 weeks holidays for Collins. The Malone ban is being appealed.

i am certain i told you sunday night that i had not seen it , i asked people not to post aimlessly on what they heard sunday night either as it may have caused even more concern for club mates or friends of the injured man at that time that came across this page

there was several over the top reports by both radio stations and online media outlets at the time hardly fair on the family or friends of the man so i asked people not to post until we knew more of the situation

i genuinely dont think they should appeal the two game ban , that sort of stuff goes on all the time in games , but as what happened on sunday its only a matter of time someone gets seriously hurt

i think malone is incredibly lucky to get off with just a two game ban IMO

I would genuinely love to know on what basis they are appealing it, he is absolutely blessed to be only getting two games.

When you consider that Diarmuid Connolly got 3 months in the height of the summer for a far less dangerous incident it makes an absolute mockery of the system, it appears if an incident is on The Sunday Game it automatically becomes more serious!

Tipp selector should feel let down.
Malone didn't intend to hospitalize him but it was an unprovoked excessive shove.
